Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study aims to investigate some biological characteristics of Atlantic bonito, Sarda sarda Bloch, 1793, from the Turkish coasts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. A total of 212 S. sarda (100 females, 89 males, and 23 undetermined) were sampled monthly between May 2011 and September 2012. The sex ratio (male/female) was 0.89; females prevailed but not statistically significantly so. Fork lengths of all sampled individuals ranged from 17.7 to 63.0 cm. The length-weight relationship for all individuals was calculated as W = 0.01 L^{3.085}. The ages of the fish ranged from 0+ to 2+. Growth parameters …

The current status of marine fishes distributed along the Turkish coasts is reviewed and an updated checklist including 512 species is presented. In this study, 5 species are recorded for the first time from Turkey (Lepidion lepidion (Risso, 1810); Bathophilus nigerrimus Giglioli, 1882; Gonostoma denudatum Rafinesque, 1810; Solea aegyptiaca Chabanaud, 1927; and Gobius roulei de Buen, 1928), while 7 species are new to the Turkish Aegean Sea coast (Notacanthus bonaparte Risso, 1840; Nettastoma melanurum Rafinesque, 1810; Apletodon dentatus (Facciolà, 1887); Apletodon incognitus Hofrichter & Patzner, 1997; Callionymus filamentosus Valenciennes, 1837; Cynoglossus sinusarabici (Chabanaud, 1931); Torquigener flavimaculosus Hardy & Randall, 1983) …

Updated Checklist Of Sponges (Porifera) Along The Coasts Of Turkey, Bülent Topaloğlu, Alper Evcen

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This study compiled the data from previous papers emphasizing sponge species on the Turkish coasts. In total, 131 species belonging to 46 families have been reported: 82 species from the Aegean Sea, 63 species from the Sea of Marmara, 51 species from the Levantine Sea, and 13 species from the Black Sea. Among these species, 3 species are new records for the marine fauna of Turkey: Rhizaxinella elongata, Axinyssa digitata, and Terpios gelatinosa. Raspalia viminalis is a new record for the Sea of Marmara. The morphological and distributional features of 3 species are presented. In addition, a checklist of the …
