A New Species Of Chelonini (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) From Pistachio Twig Borer Moth (Kermania Pistaciella Amsel (Lep.: Tineidae)) In Gaziantep, Ahmet Beyarslan, Yasemi̇n Bengü Şahan Jan 2019

A New Species Of Chelonini (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) From Pistachio Twig Borer Moth (Kermania Pistaciella Amsel (Lep.: Tineidae)) In Gaziantep, Ahmet Beyarslan, Yasemi̇n Bengü Şahan

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Pupae of the pistachio twig borer moth (Kermania pistaciella Amsel (Lep.: Tineidae)) were collected in the Şahinbey and Nizip-Alahacı regions of Gaziantep in February and March 2017. The pupae were kept in cages and parasitoids from Cheloninae (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) were obtained. Chelonus chetini Beyarslan & Şahan sp. nov. is described as a new species for science. The new species is described and the figures of its diagnostic characters are given.

Investigation Of Blood Cells Of Miniopterus Schreibersii (Mammalia: Chiroptera) In Turkey, İrfan Albayrak, Tuğba Sariçam Jan 2019

Investigation Of Blood Cells Of Miniopterus Schreibersii (Mammalia: Chiroptera) In Turkey, İrfan Albayrak, Tuğba Sariçam

Turkish Journal of Zoology

This research was based on some characteristics of the erythrocyte and leukocyte cells of 9 Miniopterus schreibersii (♀♀) samples collected from Balıkesir Province in Turkey between July 2015 and September 2016. Bats were caught from an artificial cave using special nets. Blood was taken in heparinized hematocrit tubes from the forearm or tail membrane in the laboratory and the blood smears were prepared. The erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, hemoglobin concentration, and hematocrit values in the blood were determined. In M. schreibersii, the number of erythrocytes in 1 mm3 of blood was between 7.5 and 10 million, and the mean value …

Genetic Characterization Of Field Populations Of Culex Pipiens Linnaeus, 1758 (Diptera: Culicidae) Sampled From The Aegean Region Of Turkey, Sercan Kiliç, Vatan Taşkin, Taylan Doğaroğlu, Ersi̇n Doğaç, Belgi̇n Göçmen Taşkin Jan 2019

Genetic Characterization Of Field Populations Of Culex Pipiens Linnaeus, 1758 (Diptera: Culicidae) Sampled From The Aegean Region Of Turkey, Sercan Kiliç, Vatan Taşkin, Taylan Doğaroğlu, Ersi̇n Doğaç, Belgi̇n Göçmen Taşkin

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Mosquitoes are one of the organisms subjected to frequent insecticide application due to their status as vectors that carry a wide range of life-threatening diseases. Turkey has climatic and other ecological features required for the breeding and living of 50 species from 8 genera. The members of the Culex pipiens complex are the dominant mosquitoes among them. In order to design more sustainable insecticide resistance management strategies, it is important to investigate the genetic structure of mosquito populations using molecular techniques. The aim of this study was the genetic characterization of field populations of C. pipiens sampled from 25 different …

A New Larval Species Of Balaustium (Acari: Actinotrichida: Erythraeidae) From Turkey, Javad Noei, Fi̇rdevs Ersi̇n, İbrahi̇m Çakmak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The larvae of Balaustium izmirensis Noei & Ersin sp. nov. were obtained by rearing adults collected from building walls and window ledges in Bornova, İzmir, Turkey. The larva of B. izmirensis Noei & Ersin sp. nov. is described and illustrated. A key to larval species of Balaustium is provided.

Ecological Surveys On The Parthenogenetic Artemia Populations In The Hypersaline Lakes Of Anatolia, Turkey, Armi̇n Eskandari̇, Yasemi̇n Saygi Jan 2019

Ecological Surveys On The Parthenogenetic Artemia Populations In The Hypersaline Lakes Of Anatolia, Turkey, Armi̇n Eskandari̇, Yasemi̇n Saygi

Turkish Journal of Zoology

The objective of this study is to provide information on the parthenogenetic Artemia populations in some hypersaline lakes of Anatolia (Tuz, Bolluk, Tersakan, and Acıgöl). Sampling studies were performed for abiotic factors and population parameters between November 2009 and October 2010. During the survey we focused on the local Artemia populations to investigate population dynamics, reproduction, brood size, and cyst and naupliar biometrics. Generally, the Artemia habitats in Anatolia were relatively shallow, and thus they were subject to major seasonal fluctuations. Dramatic declines in population size in Tuz and Acıgöl Lakes were found during this study. All Artemia populations were …

On Tooth Anomalies And The Loss Of Canis Lupus (Mammalia: Carnivora) In Turkey, Eli̇f Yildiz Ay, İrfan Albayrak Jan 2019

On Tooth Anomalies And The Loss Of Canis Lupus (Mammalia: Carnivora) In Turkey, Eli̇f Yildiz Ay, İrfan Albayrak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Because of their feeding habits, which are affected by their ranking in the last steps of the food chain, the teeth of carnivores are subjected to great forces during the breaking up and chewing of food when they are hunting. In this sense, missing teeth and tooth anomalies are common in carnivores. This research was based on an examination of the properties of the tooth structures of 25 wolf specimens collected in Turkey between 2014 and 2018. In this study, the excess and missing teeth, tooth fracture, and root anomalies in the lower and upper jaw of the head skeletons …
