The aim of this study was to determine growth performance, duodenal histomorphology, and some biochemical parameters in quails' diets containing coated calcium sodium butyrate (CSB). One hundred sixty 1-day-old Japanese quails were arranged into four trial groups consisting of 5 replicates with eight chicks per replicate. One group was formed as a control group without CSB, and the other experimental groups were formed by adding CSB at the level of 0.06% (CSB - 1), 0.08% (CSB - 2), and 0.1% (CSB - 3). All diets were prepared isonitrogenically and isocalorically, with 24% CP and 3000 kcal/kg ME content. The trial …

Clinical And Haematological Findings In Bovine Immunodeficiency Virus (Biv) Infected Cattle, Zeki̇ Yilmaz, Kadi̇r Yeşi̇lbağ

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The clinical and haematological findings in dairy cattle with naturally infected bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV) infection were evaluated. Thirty-seven (12.3%) out of 300 cattle that had previously been found positive for BIV infection were monitored. Thirty-seven BIV-free cattle selected from BIV-positive herds were used as a control group. Routine clinical and haematological parameters were recorded 6 times, at 1-month intervals. Mastitis (n = 18), metritis (n = 9), respiratory system diseases (n = 8), retained placenta (n = 7), and regional lymphadenopathy (n = 7) were predominantly diagnosed during the monitoring period in BIV-infected cattle, and mastitis (n = 1) …

Effects Of Ascorbic Acid On The Performance And Some Blood Parameters Of Japanese Quails Reared Under Hot Climate Conditions, Mehmet Avci, Muğdat Yertürk, Oktay Kaplan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effects of ascorbic acid on the performance and some blood parameters of Japanese quails reared under hot conditions were investigated. Three hundred Japanese quails, 7 days of age, were randomly divided into one control and two experimental groups, comprising five replicates of 20 birds each. Ascorbic acid (500 and 1000 mg/kg) was given to the experimental groups. The body weight gain increased significantly (P < 0.05) in the group given 500 mg/kg of ascorbic acid until the fourth week. Feed consumption also increased (P < 0.05), depending on the quantity of ascorbic acid supplementation until the fourth week. However, ascorbic acid did not affect the concentrations of blood pH, PCO_{2}, sodium (Na), potassium (K), hematocrit (PCV), bicarbonate (HCO_{3}), or hemoglobin (Hb). In conclusion, 500 mg/kg of ascorbic acid may be added to the quail diet to prevent heat stress until the fourth week.

Effects Of Heat Stress On Some Blood Parameters In Broilers, Özge Altan, Ali̇ Altan, Meti̇n Çabuk, Hakan Bayraktar

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of acute heat stress on the proportions of leucocyte components and hematocrit values in broiler chickens. Exposure of broiler chickens to 39±1 °C for 2 h at 44 d of age caused an increase in rectal temperatures, and in heterophil and basophil ratios. The H/L ratio also increased from 0.25 to 0.43. The exposure of the broilers to acute heat stress resulted in decreased monocyte and lymphocyte proportions whereas the proportion of eosinophil and the hematocrit values were not affected. It was concluded that a temperature high enough to …
