Effects Of Mulching, Fertilizer, Seeding And Seedling Treatments On Plant Species Recovery In Kondoa Irangi Hills, Tanzania, H. V. M. Lyaruu

Fertilization, mulching, imported seed bank seeding and seedlings were applied to triplicates of 1m x1m plots at Chakwe and Gubali sites in Kondoa Irangi Hills, Tanzania. Responses tested were seedling recruitment, species turnover, species’ biomass, mortality of seedlings, total number of perennial and woody species recruited and leguminous species. There were high significant correlations of 0.85 and 0.87 between seedling recruitment and mortality in both sites, indicating that other factors, probably aridity, rather than prevailing site conditions were likely to be important determinants of mortality. Conventional and organic cotton farming practices both have benefits and detriments to each type. Cotton agriculture is responsible for the use of a third of the agriculture industries’ pesticide use. In order to help alleviate the use of pesticide dependency the following study reviews the use of pesticides as well as other stressors of both systems and hopes to decide how sustainable agriculture in the cotton industry can be attained. Evaluations of both systems have been compared in order to reach the decisions of sustainability.

Increasing concern over the depleting fossil fuels and rising costs of chemical fertilizers have stimulated the need to find alternative crop biomass production through regionally available fertilizer sources. A field experiment was conducted to determine high biomass sorghum [(Sorghum bicolor (Moench) L.) dry matter yield, and N uptake due to application of urea, pelleted poultry litter, and class A municipal biosolids in two cropping systems of biomass sorghum and nitrogen use efficiencies of these three nutrient sources in northeast Arkansas in 2009. Satellite‐derived land cover land use (LCLU), snow and albedo data, and incoming surface solar radiation reanalysis data were used to study the impact of LCLU change from 1973 to 2000 on surface albedo and radiative forcing for 58 ecoregions covering 69% of the conterminous United States. A net positive surface radiative forcing (i.e., warming) of 0.029 Wm−2 due to LCLU albedo change from 1973 to 2000 was estimated. The forcings for individual ecoregions were similar in magnitude to current global forcing estimates, with the most negative forcing (as low as −0.367 Wm−2) due to the transition to forest and the …

A survey was developed and administered to agricultural producers in Northwest Arkansas in order to better understand producer awareness of, application for and participation in six federal and state conservation programs available in Arkansas: the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, the Arkansas Revolving Loan Program, the Arkansas Nonpoint Pollution Management Program , the Arkansas Soil Nutrient and Poultry Litter Application and Management Program, and the Surplus Poultry Litter Removal Incentives Cost Share Program. WASDE cotton forecasts are shown to be especially volatile as cotton is one of the most trade dependent commodities in the world. For over one hundred years, the 4-H youth development program has educated millions of children across the country in a variety of programs; from livestock husbandry to leadership skills. Like all programs that have endured, 4-H has had to adjust its focus as society has changed.
