Screening Maize (Zea Mays L.) Genotypes For Phosphorus Deficiency At The Seedling Stage, Md. Golam Azam, Umakanta Sarker, Md. Shalim Uddin Jan 2022

Screening Maize (Zea Mays L.) Genotypes For Phosphorus Deficiency At The Seedling Stage, Md. Golam Azam, Umakanta Sarker, Md. Shalim Uddin

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

A study was conducted at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute's greenhouse with 48 maize genotypes through hydroponic culture. Two levels of treatment, namely, low phosphorus (LP) (2.5 × 10-6 mol L-1 of KH2PO4) and normal phosphorus (NP) (2.5 × 10-4 mol L-1 of KH2PO4), were used for this study. Morphologically, plants behave differently in low phosphorus conditions than in normal phosphorus environments. Large augmented roots were found in the plant in low phosphorus conditions. The results revealed that chlorophyll contents, shoot length, root length shoot dry weight, root dry …

Hybrid Performance And Heterosis In F1 Offspring Of Triticale (× Triticosecale Wittm.), Mustafa Yildirim, Hasan Gezgi̇nç, Ali̇ Haydar Paksoy Jan 2014

Hybrid Performance And Heterosis In F1 Offspring Of Triticale (× Triticosecale Wittm.), Mustafa Yildirim, Hasan Gezgi̇nç, Ali̇ Haydar Paksoy

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, the combined ability effects and heterosis were determined for number of days to anthesis (AT), plant height (PH), fertile tillers plant^{–1} (FT), spike length (SL), spikelets spike–1 (SS) and grains spike–1 (GS), 1000-kernel weight (TW), and grain yield plant^{–1} (GY) of 4 triticale genotypes [Karma (G1), Presto (G2), Ayşehanım (G3), and Mehmetbey (G4)] and their 6 F_1 offspring. The mean squares of general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were statistically significant for all traits. According to the GCA/SCA, additive gene effects were found for all traits. According to the desired values for traits on …

Combining Ability And Heterosis For Concentration Of Mineral Elements And Protein In Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.), Ercan Ceyhan, Mustafa Harmankaya, Ali̇ Kahraman Jan 2014

Combining Ability And Heterosis For Concentration Of Mineral Elements And Protein In Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L.), Ercan Ceyhan, Mustafa Harmankaya, Ali̇ Kahraman

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Bean is one of the most consumed pulse crops in the world. Hence, the quality of the protein and mineral content is important for producers and consumers. Line × tester methods were used to determine the combining ability and heterosis of protein content and mineral accumulation in common beans that were crosses of PV1, PV2, PV3, PV4, PV5, PV6, Sehirali 90, Akman 98, and Yunus 90. Mean squares of line × tester interactions were significant for all of the investigated traits and indicated the prevalence of nonadditive variance; moreover, the value of the s^²_{gca}/s^²_{sca} ratio for all characters was less …

Genetic Analysis Of Grain Yield Per Spike And Some Agronomic Traits In Diallel Crosses Of Bread Wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.), Nazan Dağüstü Jan 2008

Genetic Analysis Of Grain Yield Per Spike And Some Agronomic Traits In Diallel Crosses Of Bread Wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.), Nazan Dağüstü

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

To introduce new germplasm into breeding programs in Turkey, 3 lines [Samsun - 46 (S - 46), Samsun/Bafra - 333 (SB - 333), Population - 311 (P - 311)] and 4 cultivars [Marmara - 86 (M - 86), Gönen, Golia, and Pehlivan] of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were crossed in 7 x 7 diallel crosses. The trials were conducted at Uludağ University, Research and Training Center, Turkey, over 3 years (in 2000/01, in 2001/02, and in 2002/03). The 7 parents and 42 crosses were grown in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications for 2 years. The genetic …

Inheritance Of Grain Yield In A Half-Diallel Maize Population, Aydin Ünay, Cahi̇t Konak, Hüseyi̇n Başal Jan 2004

Inheritance Of Grain Yield In A Half-Diallel Maize Population, Aydin Ünay, Cahi̇t Konak, Hüseyi̇n Başal

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Inheritance of grain yield, heterosis and combining ability were investigated in maize populations obtained from half-diallel crossing among 9 inbred parental lines. General and specific combining ability effects were significantly different among parental lines. The grain yield was under the dominance gene effect. The parents W 552 and DNB were considered suitable according to their yield capacities and general combining ability effects. The midparent heterosis values ranged from 46.10% (H.96 x DNB) to 573.12% (ALKD 222 x A 632) whereas the useful heterosis values varied between -46.47% (A 619 x A 632) and 10.78% (N 7A x ALKD 90-1), and …

Evaluation Of Yield And Yield Components In Inbred Maize Lines I. Heterosis And Line X Tester Analysis Of Combining Ability, Şevket Meti̇n Kara Jan 2001

Evaluation Of Yield And Yield Components In Inbred Maize Lines I. Heterosis And Line X Tester Analysis Of Combining Ability, Şevket Meti̇n Kara

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In maize, three male testers and six female lines together with their 18 F_1 hybrids were evaluated to study the general and specific combining ability estimates and heterosis following line x tester approach. Analysis of variance indicated the existence of significant variation among F_1 and parents for all characteristics. Average heterosis was significant for all characteristics studied and was positive, except for days to tasseling, with the average yield of hybrids being 79.8% above that of the parents. In view of the general combining ability effects of the parents, the parental lines YUZ P709 and FR 64A were identified as …

The Combining Abilities Of Some Barley ( Hordeum Vulgarel.) Genotypes Under Saline Conditions, Riza Yilmaz, Cahi̇t Konak Jan 2000

The Combining Abilities Of Some Barley ( Hordeum Vulgarel.) Genotypes Under Saline Conditions, Riza Yilmaz, Cahi̇t Konak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The salt tolerance of eight barley genotypes and their 15 F1 hybrid populations were investigated in line x tester analysis for seedling traits in greenhouse and generative stage characteristics in saline fields. The data indicated that there was sufficient genetic variability among genotypes for salt tolerance in barley. The MENTA "S" genotype for general combining ability and Tokak 157/37 x ZARZA "S", Quantum x No.56000/MISC-233 and Kaya-7794 x ZARZA "S" crosses for specific combining ability had positive and significant estimates both in greenhouse and field conditions. It was determined that spike length, number of grain per spike, single spike yield, …
