Incidence Of Microbial Infections Revealed By Assessing Nodulation Infield-Collected Insects From Adana Province, Hasan Tunaz, Mehmet Kubi̇lay Er, Ali̇ Arda Işikber

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Results of a field study designed to assess the extent of natural microbial infections in insects collected from agrarian fields surrounding Adana, Turkey, are reported. We identified and dissected specimens to assess the numbers of nodules. Formation of darkened melanotic nodules is the predominant cellular immune reaction to microbial and parasitic infection, and once formed, the nodules are permanently attached to internal surfaces. At least some nodules were found in 99% of 1200 examined specimens that were healthy in appearance. The number of nodules ranged approximately from 1 nodule/individual to >120 nodules/individual. We inferred that insects are regularly challenged by …

Field Performance Of Trichoderma Species Against Wilt Disease Complex Of Chickpea Caused By Fusarium Oxysporum F. Sp. Ciceri And Rhizoctonia Solani, Mujeebur Rahman Khan, Shabbir Ashraf, Farahnaz Rasool, Khalid Mahmood Salati, Fayaz Ahmad Mohiddin, Ziaul Haque Jan 2014

Field Performance Of Trichoderma Species Against Wilt Disease Complex Of Chickpea Caused By Fusarium Oxysporum F. Sp. Ciceri And Rhizoctonia Solani, Mujeebur Rahman Khan, Shabbir Ashraf, Farahnaz Rasool, Khalid Mahmood Salati, Fayaz Ahmad Mohiddin, Ziaul Haque

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The effects of Trichoderma harzianum, T. hamatum, T. viride, T. polysporum, and T. koningii on the wilt disease complex of chickpea caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri and Rhizoctonia solani were investigated under field conditions during 2 consecutive years. Chickpea cultivar Avrodhi, grown in plots inoculated with F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri and R. solani, showed chlorosis of leaves and wilting of foliage and exhibited a 22%-25% decrease in yield. Soil application of biocontrol agents (BCAs) checked the severity of wilt by 25%-56% and 39%-67% and increased the yield of chickpea by 12%-28% and 8%-24% in the 2 years, …

Growth And Nodulation Of Alfalfa-Rhizobia Symbiosis Under Salinity: Electrolyte Leakage, Stomatal Conductance, And Chlorophyll Fluorescence, Lahbib Latrach, Mohamed Farissi, Mohammed Mouradi, Bouchra Makoudi, Abdelaziz Bouizgaren, Cherki Ghoulam Jan 2014

Growth And Nodulation Of Alfalfa-Rhizobia Symbiosis Under Salinity: Electrolyte Leakage, Stomatal Conductance, And Chlorophyll Fluorescence, Lahbib Latrach, Mohamed Farissi, Mohammed Mouradi, Bouchra Makoudi, Abdelaziz Bouizgaren, Cherki Ghoulam

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The present work was a study on the adverse effects of salinity on growth, nodulation, and some physiological parameters in 4 symbiotic combinations involving 2 Moroccan alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) populations (Demnate and Tata) and 2 rhizobial strains (rhLAr 1 and rhLAr 4). The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse at 32/22 °C day/night, 50%-80% relative humidity, and a photoperiod of 16 h. The seedlings were separately inoculated with suspensions of 2 rhizobial strains and grown under 2 NaCl treatments, 0 mM (control) and 100 mM (salt stress), in plastic pots filled with sterile sand and peat at 9/10 and …

Nodulation Reaction To Fungal Infections In Larvae Of Leptinotarsa Decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Mediated By Eicosanoids, Hasan Tunaz, Cemi̇l Bengi̇n, Mehmet Kubi̇lay Er Jan 2008

Nodulation Reaction To Fungal Infections In Larvae Of Leptinotarsa Decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) Mediated By Eicosanoids, Hasan Tunaz, Cemi̇l Bengi̇n, Mehmet Kubi̇lay Er

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Injecting larvae of the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), with eicosanoid biosynthesis inhibitor, phenidone (104 µg larva^{-1}), immediately prior to intrahemocoelic injections of the fungus Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. (Deuteromycota: Hyphomycetes) (isolate No: HRI-215: 10 µg larva^{-1} from 2 x 106 blastospores ml^{-1}), sharply reduced (about 75 %) the nodulation reaction to the fungal challenges. Separate treatments with specific inhibitors of the major enzymes involved in eicosanoid biosynthesis, including phospholipase A_2 (PLA_2), cyclooxygenase, and lipoxygenase, reduced nodulation reactions to fungal infections. These findings support the view that nodule formation is a complex process involving lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase …

Effect Of Different Control Methods On Weeds, Yield Components And Nodulation In The Spring Lentil, Işik Tepe, Murat Erman, Ayşe Yazlik, Remzi̇ Levent, Kuddusi̇ İpek Jan 2004

Effect Of Different Control Methods On Weeds, Yield Components And Nodulation In The Spring Lentil, Işik Tepe, Murat Erman, Ayşe Yazlik, Remzi̇ Levent, Kuddusi̇ İpek

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was conducted on the lentil cultivar Malazgirt 89 during 1999 and 2000 to determine the most appropriate method for controlling weeds. In the experiments, hand hoeing, trifluralin, imazethapyr, linuron, prometryn, phenmedipham + desmediphame, trifluralin + hand hoeing and linuron + hand hoeing which should be used as an alternative to hand weeding, were tested. The effects of herbicides on nodulation in lentils were also investigated. Centaurea depressa in the first year, and Ranunculus arvensis and Acroptilon repens in the second year were the dominant weed species encountered in the plots. A combination of linuron + hand hoeing, linuron …
