Spice Talk, Kay Nelson Aug 1958

Spice Talk, Kay Nelson

SDSU Extension Circulars

Historians believe that spices were used long before the time of written records. They reason that pre-historic man wrapped leaves around meat in order to keep it clean while cooking in a hot pit; as a result he had the pleasant discovery of newly-flavored meat. Spices are native to many lands, as shown on the map, which makes it impossible to say exactly where this first occurred. We do know, from the hieroglyphics on the walls of the pyramids to the scriptures of the Bible, that spices shared a most important influence on the lives of the ancient Greek and …

Beef Performance Testing On Farm And Ranch, Henry Holzman

SDSU Extension Circulars

This circular has been prepared to assist in answering the increasing number of questions being asked by producers of commercial and purebred cattle about the methods, principles and values of the Performance Test for beef cattle. Performance testing is nothing new. Improvement in livestock ever since the beginning of the various breeds, has been due to some form of performance test. Such tests have been based on either observation or some form of records. Knowledge of underlying principles and the relative value of different methods has, until recent years, been lacking in beef cattle testing. Research projects conducted during the …

The Fourth "H" Is Health: Personal Health, Helen Becker, Don Wiles

SDSU Extension Circulars

"The 4th H is Health." Your 4-H pledge says, "I pledge my Health to better living." This means that you must develop good health habits. Improving Property Tax Assessments In South Dakota, Joshua Robinson, Lyle Bender Feb 1958

Improving Property Tax Assessments In South Dakota, Joshua Robinson, Lyle Bender

SDSU Extension Circulars

Property taxes in South Dakota have been a public issue almost since settlers brought taxing ideas with them during the early settlement period. The amount of the property tax bill and the way it is charged against property owners has long been a point of contention. Over the years, many of these earlier tax ideas have become obsolete for a semi-arid, thinly populated area.
