Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

A study was conducted to examine the effects of tenon geometry on the bending moment capacity of simple and haunched mortise and tenon joints under the action of both compressive and tensile loads. The effects of tenon width (25, 37.5, and 50 mm), tenon thickness (7.5, 10, and 15 mm), and tenon length (20, 25, and 30 mm) were examined. All of the joints were constructed of Turkish beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and were assembled with a 40% solid-content polyvinyl acetate. Mechanical Properties Of Heat-Treated Wooden Material Utilized In The Construction Of Outdoor Sitting Furniture, Nurgül Tankut, Ali̇ Naci̇ Tankut, Mustafa Zor

The present study examined the bending moment capacity and rigidity of T-type out-of-plane furniture joints and investigated the effects of heat treatment, wood species, and joint type factors on these joints. Heat treatment method clearly decreased the modulus of rupture (MOR) and the modulus of elasticity (MOE) of selected wood species. The bending strength of wood samples was reduced after the heat treatment, decreasing with increased loss of mass. For the heat-treated T-type joints, maximum bending strength values were obtained with Iroko (Chlorophora excelsa) for both mortise and tenon (MT) joints and blind MT (BMT) joints. The ultimate bending moment carrying capacity of metal-plate-connected (MPC) wood-truss-splice joints constructed with red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) lumber was investigated. Lumber 38 mm by 90 mm and 3 different sizes of metal plate connectors were utilized in constructing the joints. A 4-point loading method was used to determine the joints' bending moment capacity. Tensile splice joints were tested in both flat- and edgewise positions. The effects of tooth orientation and metal plate size on the bending moment capacity of the joints were investigated.
