The Role Of Body Composition In Predicting Fitness Performance Of Law Enforcement Officers, Taylor J. Parmentier
The Role Of Body Composition In Predicting Fitness Performance Of Law Enforcement Officers, Taylor J. Parmentier
Theses and Dissertations
Law enforcement officers (LEOs) perform physically demanding tasks such as foot pursuits, lifting, carrying, dragging, and physical restraint. Effectively performing these duties requires significant muscular strength, endurance, and cardiorespiratory fitness. Lower fitness levels pose risks for reduced health, performance, slower recovery, increased fatigue, and potentially affecting decision-making under strenuous conditions. The purpose of this study was to identify the strongest predictor of physical fitness performance among active-duty LEOs. Body composition analysis and a comprehensive fitness evaluation of twenty-nine male LEOs (age: 36.2 ± 9.3 years, body mass (BM): 95 ± 13.7 kg, height: 1.8 ± 0.1 m) was completed. The …

ASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development
The increased traffic and heterogeneity in the 5G/B5G network require efficient radio resource management (RRM). However, the existing methods, such as GA and PSO, have poor convergence speed and require proper initial conditions. Additionally, learning-based methods have high computational complexity. Hence, in this paper, a novel AI-assisted Hybrid Channel Allocation (AI–HCA) framework is proposed by using a support vector regression (SVR)-based predictive initialization method and GA-PSO optimization. Simulation results using the 3GPP UMa channel model show that the proposed method has a 28% reduction in call blocking probability (CBP), a 15-25% enhancement in spectral efficiency (SE), and a 18-25% enhancement …

The growing demand for low-cost, sustainable conductive filaments for additive manufacturing motivates the exploration of recycled polymer feedstocks as alternatives to virgin materials. However, the effects of prior thermal reprocessing on both the electrical performance and morphological integrity of recycled PLA (rPLA)–carbon black (CB) composite filaments remain insufficiently characterised, particularly under single-screw extrusion conditions. This study fabricates and characterises conductive filaments from virgin PLA and rPLA, each loaded with CB at 0.2, 0.6, and 1.0 wt%, using a low-cost desktop single-screw extruder. Melt blending was found to be essential for achieving continuous filament extrusion, as ball milling produced insufficient filler …

Background: In recipients of liver transplantation (LT), spleen volume reflects the portal hemodynamic status. Optimization of graft weight and studying its effect on the outcomes on the splenic volume after the transplant is one of the techniques for portal inflow modulation. Aim: The study aims to assess the degree of splenic volume reduction after living donor liver transplantation in correlation to graft weight. Methods: The study analyzed 29 liver transplantation patients, involving comprehensive history taking, clinical examination, and laboratory data assessment. Spleen volume has been measured via a semi‑automatic region‑based technique with subsequent manual refinement when necessary to accurately delineate …

Background: Malignant extrahepatic biliary obstruction (MEBO) is a common cause of obstructive jaundice associated with high morbidity and mortality. ERCP-guided biliary drainage is widely used for palliative management, however, real-world data regarding bilirubin decline and predictors of success remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate bilirubin decline patterns, clinical outcomes, and predictors of clinical success following ERCP-guided biliary drainage in patients with MEBO.
Methods: This prospective observational study included consecutive MEBO patients who underwent ERCP-guided biliary drainage either by plastic or metallic stents at a tertiary-care hospital. Technical success, defined as successful stent placement, and clinical success, defined as symptomatic …
