Analysis Of The Impact And Importance Of Re-Wholesalers In The Ornamental Market, Marco Absalón Velástegui
Analysis Of The Impact And Importance Of Re-Wholesalers In The Ornamental Market, Marco Absalón Velástegui
LSU Master's Theses
Sales by ornamental nurseries in the United States have grown, recently, at an impressive rate. For example, sales of the greenhouse and nursery crops component increased about 18% from 2000 to 2006 (USDA, 2007). The evolution of a diverse set of market channel alternatives, including the garden center, landscaper, home center, mass merchandiser and re-wholesaler channels, has been one of the reasons for this growth. Knowledge about growers’ use of the individual marketing channels is indispensable for the development of appropriate sales strategies for better income and profits. Periodic survey data indicates that the re-wholesaler channel is a frequently used …
Three Papers On The Behavior Modeling Of The Shrimp Fishermen In The Gulf Of Mexico, Tao Ran
Three Papers On The Behavior Modeling Of The Shrimp Fishermen In The Gulf Of Mexico, Tao Ran
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The overall goal of this research is to empirically analyze shrimp fishermen behavior to help improve the management of the Gulf of Mexico shrimp fleet. Given that optimal management requires consideration of more than the net benefits derived from shrimp harvesting, this research also seeks to provide an empirical framework that would allow future investigators to measure benefits lost through bycatch-related management actions. This paper expands on previous fishing behavior literature by focusing on two of the most important short-run decisions confronting Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishermen (where to fish and how long to fish). A better understanding of these …
Spatial Economics Of The Louisiana Wetland Mitigation Banking Industry, Ryan Joseph Bourriaque
Spatial Economics Of The Louisiana Wetland Mitigation Banking Industry, Ryan Joseph Bourriaque
LSU Master's Theses
Bourriaque, Ryan Joseph, B.A. Louisiana State University, 2005 Master of Science, Summer Commencement, 2008 Major: Agricultural Economics Spatial Economics of the Louisiana Wetland Mitigation Banking Industry Thesis directed by Assistant Professor Rex Caffey Pages in thesis, 86. Words in abstract, 265. ABSTRACT Wetland mitigation banking has become prevalent in many states across the US, with the number of banks increasing 780% from 1992 to 2005. Louisiana led the nation in the total number of banks in 2006 with 96. Despite rapid growth associated with this industry, economic data in regards to the market for wetland mitigation bank transactions has been …

Antidumping Investigation In Agriculture: Issues Of Trade Diversion-Named Vs Non-Named Countries, Nandini Bandyopadhyay
Antidumping Investigation In Agriculture: Issues Of Trade Diversion-Named Vs Non-Named Countries, Nandini Bandyopadhyay
LSU Master's Theses
This study addresses the issue of antidumping investigations and their effect on trade of agricultural products. The question which this study addresses is whether antidumping is helping domestic industries or is simply diverting trade away from the named countries to the non- named countries (countries not mentioned in the antidumping petition). Antidumping has emerged as an important tool in the hands of importing countries over the last two decades The World Trade Organization (WTO) has defined dumping as a situation of international price discrimination. Dumping occurs when exporting countries are selling the product in the international market at a price …
Microbial Community Structure Dynamics In Ohio River Sediments During Reductive Dechlorination Of Pcbs, Andres Enrique Nunez
Microbial Community Structure Dynamics In Ohio River Sediments During Reductive Dechlorination Of Pcbs, Andres Enrique Nunez
University of Kentucky Doctoral Dissertations
The entire stretch of the Ohio River is under fish consumption advisories due to contamination with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). In this study, natural attenuation and biostimulation of PCBs and microbial communities responsible for PCB transformations were investigated in Ohio River sediments.
Natural attenuation of PCBs was negligible in sediments, which was likely attributed to low temperature conditions during most of the year, as well as low amounts of available nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic carbon. Moreover, surface sediments were relatively oxidized, as indicated by the prevalence of aerobic bacteria such as beta- Proteobacteria, alpha-Proteobacteria, Sphingobacteria, and Nitrospira in 16S rRNA sediment …

Southern Weeds And Their Control, John Moore, Judy Wheeler
Southern Weeds And Their Control, John Moore, Judy Wheeler
Bulletins 4000 -
This booklet provides easy identification of common weeds and methods of control using common cultural, biological and herbicidal control techniques. The weeds are divided into four colour coded groups based on their lifeform and are grasses, herbs, vines and shrubs or trees. Within each group, the weeds are listed alphabetically by their Latin name. A brief description of the herbicides used, a glossary and an index are included. Some species have been combined where they have similar control methods like the perennial grasses and Brassica weeds.

Colorado Potato Beetle Resistance To Insecticides, Andrei Alyokhin, Mitchell Baker, David Mota-Sanchez, Galen Dively, Edward Grafius
Andrei Alyokhin
The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), is widely regarded as the most important insect defoliator of potatoes. Its current range covers about 16 million km2 in North America, Europe, and Asia and continues to expand. This insect has a complicated and diverse life history, which is well-suited to agricultural environments, and makes it a complex and challenging pest to control. Dispersal, closely connected with diapause, feeding, and reproduction, allow the Colorado potato beetle to employ "bet-hedging" reproductive strategies, distributing its offspring in both space (within and between fields) and time (within and between years). The Colorado potato beetle played …
Household's Olive Oil Consumption Preferences Socioeconomic And Demographic Differences, Gulgun Yildiz Ti̇ryaki̇
Household's Olive Oil Consumption Preferences Socioeconomic And Demographic Differences, Gulgun Yildiz Ti̇ryaki̇
Dr. Gülgün YILDIZ TIRYAKI
Present study indicates specific consumer characteristics that affect consumer preferences for virgin, refined and blend olive oils. The findings of the study suggest that socioeconomic and demographic characteristics of household and household head such as household income, household size, education, age and gender of household head, household with working wife, residential areas (rural-urban), and regional differences were statistically significant factors and play an important role on olive oil consumption choices among Turkish households. Because olive oil production and manufacturing firms are increasing very rapidly in Turkey, the results of this study provide some relatively new information about consumer olive oil …
