Building Web-Based Interactive Keys To The Hymenopteran Families And Superfamilies, Katja Chantre Seltmann
University of Kentucky Master's Theses
Traditionally manufacturing job shops either have a process layout or a product layout. The advantages of one type of layout tend to be a disadvantage for the other. Hybrid cellular constructs represents a novel fusion of process and product layouts. In this thesis, hybrid cellular constructs specifically Hybrid Flow Shops and Reoriented andamp; Reshaped Cells are clearly described in terms of their structure, key features, and modes of operation. An engineering procedure is illustrated by cases and particular manufacturing circumstances where each concept would be most useful are identified. This thesis then defines the lean practices that are compatible with …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Biochemical sensors for continuous monitoring require dependable periodic self diagnosis with acceptable simplicity to check its functionality during operation. An in-situ self-diagnostic technique for a dissolved oxygen microsensor is proposed in an effort to devise an intelligent microsensor system with an integrated electrochemical actuation electrode. With a built-in platinum microelectrode that surrounds the microsensor, two kinds of microenvironments, called the oxygen-saturated or oxygen-depleted phases, can be created by water electrolysis, depending on the polarity. The functionality of the microsensor can be checked during these microenvironment phases. The polarographic oxygen microsensor is fabricated on a flexible polyimide substrate (Kapton) and the …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Root-knot nematodes are major pests of field and vegetable crops in Turkey and worldwide. They cause damage to many economically important horticultural crops like potato, cotton and tomato. Tomato is one of the crops in which genetic resistance has been especially effective against root-knot nematodes. In the 1940s the root-knot nematode resistance gene (Mi) was introgressed into the cultivated tomato from the wild species Lycopersicon peruvianum. Today, many commercial tomato varieties carry the Mi gene, which has been mapped. This gene confers resistance to Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica and M. arenaria. The short arm of chromosome 6 and many markers …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Due to its semi-arid climate and sloping topography, Eastern Anatolia has limited soil resources for agriculture, strongly necessitating sustainable land management. Fertile soils occur only in limited areas such as the Gevaş region, where sugar beet is one of the main crops with a particular need for K. Unfortunately, studies on the non-exchangeable (slowly available) and exchangeable K contents, along with soil properties such as clay mineralogy, organic matter content and texture, which are closely related to soil production potential, are not sufficient in the region. Thus, 40 soil samples out of 7 soil series were collected for the determination …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
An unlimited number of alternative paths can be generated to connect 2 end points. Modern optimization techniques, which perform a systematic search for an optimum solution, can be used to solve such complex problems. In the field of highway design, various optimization techniques have been applied to locate a path between 2 known locations. However, there has been little optimization application in current forest road design systems. These systems are used as a tool to perform the mathematical calculations required to make basic manual road design. This study introduces a new method that integrates 2 optimization techniques for designing forest …
