Response By Stylosanthes Hamata And S. Scabra To Phosphate On Three Soils In The North-Kimberley Of Western Australia, A Mcr Holm, Mario F. D'Antuono

Resource management technical reports

Legume herbage mass was maximized after two or three years application of 50 kg/ha double superphosphate for both Verano and Fitzroy on Red earth soils and for Fitzroy on Yellow lateritic soils. There was increased production of Verano up to the maximum fertilizer level. Both varieties responded in the second year to residual P following application in the first year but there were no responses in subsequent years.

Geraldton Rural-Residential Land Capability Study, R A. Dye, A M E Van Vreeswyk, Geoff Allan Moore Jan 1990

Geraldton Rural-Residential Land Capability Study, R A. Dye, A M E Van Vreeswyk, Geoff Allan Moore

Land resources series

With a growing population in the Geraldton area, there is a demand for rural and coastal subdivision to provide for rural residential development and intensification of agricultural activities. Future land use planning for land use change and management of land to overcome existing land degradation problems should be based on land capability. This study provides a semi-detailed (1:50,000) soil and landform inventory for the immediate zone around Geraldton, south from Coronation Beach to Cape Burney along the coast, 13.7 km inland in the north and 7.6 km inland in the south. Eight land systems were identified in the land resource …

Role Of Assimilate Partition And Biomass Productivity In Wheat Yield Improvement., K. H.M. Siddique Jan 1990

Role Of Assimilate Partition And Biomass Productivity In Wheat Yield Improvement., K. H.M. Siddique

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trial 90WH75

A. Ear:stem ratios in parental genotypes.

Earlier studies have established the importance of ear:stem ratio in determining the harvest index and potential yield of wheat cultivars (Siddique et al. 1989; Siddique and Whan, 1990). Much of the earlier work was concentrated mainly on recommended high yielding cultivars and some old cultivars. It is important to evaluate a wide range of parental materials for ear:stem ratios, before embarking on a breeding programme on ear:stem ratios. The main aim of this study was to assess ear:stem ratios in a wide range of parental genotypes.

B. Evaluation of breeding populations for …

Pursuit For Weed Control In Peas., S. Curtin

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

All trials were located in Merredin.

Trial 90ME86

This trial was one of the best demonstrations of pursuits effectiveness against mustard in particular. Other weeds were rough poppy and ryegrass and a small amount of cereal and doublegee.

This is in contract to 375 ml most emergent which had good control of mustard (77%) and suppression of ryegrass. There was no yield advantage from the post emergent treatment but there was a 55% yield increase from …

The Pesticide Residue Problem In Beef Cattle : Success With Contaminated Power Poles In South Coastal Areas, Bob Mitchell Jan 1990

The Pesticide Residue Problem In Beef Cattle : Success With Contaminated Power Poles In South Coastal Areas, Bob Mitchell

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Western Australian beef producers faced a major crisis in 1987 because of organochlorine pesticide residues in some Australian beef cattle. We had to react quickly to find the sources of these residues and to keep contaminated cattle out of our abattoirs. Trace-backs led to 269 Western Australian properties in quarantine by the end of 1987. About 85 per cent of quarantined properties had cattle contaminated with pesticide residues from 'broadacre' sources, especially from potato and other horticultural crops. Another 10 per cent of properties were in quarantine because of contamination from basal treatment of timber power poles

New Approach To Control Of Drench-Resistant Sheep Worms On Farms, Di Hopkins Jan 1990

New Approach To Control Of Drench-Resistant Sheep Worms On Farms, Di Hopkins

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Worms cost the Western Australian sheep industry up to $120 million every year, and anthelmintic (drench) resistant worms account for an increasing proportion of this amount. Resistant strains of sheep worms have been found on about 95 per cent of farms tested. This alarmingly high level indicates that all farmers should have a resistance management strategy which includes having a resistance test done on their farms before they drench their sheep. However, only about 20 per cent of farmers have had a resistance test done. Farmers often believe drench resistance is not a problem on their farms, mainly because production …
