2016, Sep. 22 -- Bulletin 118, Interim Update 2016, California's Groundwater Working Toward Sustainability, Dwr
State and Federal Documents Relating to Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties
The purpose of the interim update to Bulletin 118 is to provide up-to-date information on California groundwater basins subject to critical conditions of overdraft, groundwater basin boundaries, and basin prioritization. The information is essential to the successful implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act passed in 2014 (SGMA), including the timely formation of groundwater sustainability agencies and the development of groundwater sustainability plans.

Uric Acid Levels In Relation To Progression Of Multiple Sclerosis, Alexander A. Gosch, Mary F. Davis, Joshua C. Denny
Library/Life Sciences Undergraduate Poster Competition 2017
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by demyelination in the central nervous system. In previous studies, serum uric acid (UA) levels have been implied as a useful biomarker in understanding MS disease progression and development. The majority of previous studies have found MS patients have a lower UA level than healthy controls, however some studies have found higher UA levels with MS patients. Previous studies have compared UA levels between subtypes of MS, but have not produced conclusive data. To better understand the correlation between UA levels and MS patients, we compared UA levels between our set of …

Bird Response To Land Use Change In Northern Argentina, David J. Flaspohler
Bird Response To Land Use Change In Northern Argentina, David J. Flaspohler
TechTalks
Land use change is responsible for changes in wildlife populations including declines for many species. When one land cover type is converted into another for forestry, agriculture or pasture, some bird species are harmed while others may be favored. Understanding how biodiversity responds to land use change is essential to allowing us to anticipate and respond to management options and economic drivers of change. We studied the response of a diverse bird community in an historically grassland portion of northern Argentina, where eucalyptus plantations are expanding rapidly to support timber, pulp and incipient bioenergy industries. Plantations contained the fewest bird …

Bioenergy And Carbon Farming Opportunities In The Pilbara, Robert Sudmeyer, Kim Brooksbank, David Rogers
Bioenergy And Carbon Farming Opportunities In The Pilbara, Robert Sudmeyer, Kim Brooksbank, David Rogers
Bulletins 4000 -
The Pilbara region covers 270 000 square kilometres of north-west Western Australia. Its main agricultural land use is pastoralism, with beef cattle grazing native pastures. Currently, only 24km2 is under irrigation, with irrigated fodder the principal crop, but this could expand to 100km2. This expansion has the potential to significantly broaden the economic base of the Pilbara.
Irrigation and the opportunities for changing land use and management may facilitate greater participation in the carbon economy by Pilbara land managers. Bioenergy feedstocks could be sourced from purpose-grown crops or agricultural wastes. Carbon farming activities may be facilitated by …

The Forest Biomaterials Initiative At Michigan Tech And Across Michigan, Mark Rudnicki
The Forest Biomaterials Initiative At Michigan Tech And Across Michigan, Mark Rudnicki
TechTalks
The first statewide effort for a broad, cradle-to-cradle perspective of forest biomaterials originated at the MTU School of Forest Resources in 2012 and held a statewide meeting in Traverse City in 2013. The biomaterials initiative is currently a MTU university wide initiative, and is proceeding with development of educational and research programs that are envisioned to span most schools and colleges at MTU. Because of the work done in Traverse City and subsequent meetings, the Michigan Forest Biomaterials Institute (MiFBI) has evolved into an independent nonprofit with an expansive mission to enhance quality of life in Michigan by fostering sustainable …
