Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
As a results of rapid increase in population, forests which are an integral part of natural balance, have been dramatically decreasing. Thus problems associated with forestry, are in the rise. In this regard, the supply and demand conflicts and problems in small and middle-sized establishments in the forest product industry are two major issues which require close attention. The principal objective of this study is to examine the status of small and medium sized forest product industry in the province of Trabzon. The present study has identified the main problems of the establishments and solutions for these problems were proposed.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, the holding ability of three different types of screws to particle board, Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), werzalit and beech wood which are widely used for furniture production, were investigated. The holding direction of the screws to all materials surface were both parallel and perpendicular. The experimental results showed that on the perpendicular direction, beech wood materials showed the best screw holding strength and it was followed by werzalut, MDF and particle board respectively. When the screw holding strength is parallel to the surface, highest screw holding strength was also seen at beech wood materials and it was …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study some biochemical changes of Independence, Nectared-4 and Necrtared-8 cultivars grafted on Nemaguard rootstock in different watering regimes were investigated. The potted plants in the greenhouse were watered at available water ca-pacity. When the outside temperature was the highest then the watering levels were changed by giving 100 %, 75 %, 50 % and 25 % of available soil water. In all nectarines, leaf chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and total chlorophyll contents decreased with limited water given to the plants. At the end of the drought experiment, the highest decreases in the leaf chlorophyll contents were found in the Nectarine-8 …

Effect Of Irrigation Water On Corn Grain Yield In Ankara Conditions, Y. Ersoy Yildirim, Süleyman Kodal
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This research was conducted in Ankara conditions in order to determine corn yield response to water. When 50% of available water content in root zone is consumed in the control treatment, irrigation water was applied to the other treatments with 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 125%, 150%, 175% and 200% of those applied into check plots. As a result, applications of ex-cessive water was not increased grain yields at the important level. Yield response factor (k y ) for total growing period were found as 0.96 respectively.

Effect Of Various Nitrogen Sources On Yield And Some Propertiesof Potato Plant, Sait Gezgi̇n, Şerife Uyanöz
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this investigation, the effects of some slow release and conventionally used fast release nitrogen sources in the soils of Nigde-Misli plain on tuber yield, and protein, starch and NO 3 contents of tubers of the potato plants grown under greenhouse condi-tions were determined. Effect of nitrogen levels on tuber yield, as mean of nitrogen sources were found as follows: N 2 >N 1 >N 4 >N 3 >N 0 . On the other hand, increasing levels of nitrogen applied to the soil increased the protein and starch contents of the potato tubers. The highest and low-est tuber yield as …

Determinations Of Microbiological Activity, Organic Matter And Nitrogen Forms In Soil In The Different Soil Tillage, Fallow-Wheat...., M. Sait Adak, Andreas Biesantz, Velittin Gürgün
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
According to experimental results of two crop rotation cycles higher soil microbiological activities (i.e.b-Glucosidase and dehydrogenase activity) were obtained from soil samples of winter lentil plots in comparision to fallow plots. Highest activities of both parameters were found in the upper soil layer of 0-20 cm depth. The observed differences between lentil and fallow disap-peared during the following cropping season. Similar tendencies were also obtained for organic matter, total nitrogen and total porosity volume in the soil. It could be observed that soil fertility improved with regard to these parameters after lentil. Thus, a legume crop (e.g. winter lentil) should …

Main plots were cultivars (5-118 and 5-154), sub plots were weed treatment (weed not removed and weed removed manually) and sub-sub plots were row spacing (20, 40 and 60 cm). The hand weeding decreased the weed density by 75.3%, conversely increased the safflower yield by 36.3%. …

A Study On The Lipase-Catalayzed Esterification In Organic Solvent, Mustafa Ümit Ünal
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This study was undertaken to investigate effect of molecular sieves on the esterification reaction between lauric acid and geraniol in isooctane catalyzed by immobilized lipase in a batch and continuous-loop packed-bed reactor. Molecular sieves were used to reduce the inhibitive effect of water formed during the reaction by removing it as it formed. Results in a batch reactor showed that, for the molecular sieves to have a pronounced effect on the performance of the enzyme, a ratio of at least 2:1 with respect to the weight of the immobilized enzyme must be used. It was also found that the ability …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Totally sixty four chickpea lines were grown for assesment of response to drought stress in the stress and non-stress environments under rainfed conditions. The seed yield of the lines when grown under the non-stress condition increased at a rate of 53% over the in stress condition. The line, FLIP 92-154C, was determinated as the best tolerant line to drought stress environment under the field condition. Also, seed yield strongly correlated with biological yield, harvest index, mean productivity, tolerance to drought stress and drought susceptibility index in the stress environment.
