Comparison Of The Centroid Method And Four Standard Formulas For Estimating Log Volumes, Hakki Yavuz
Comparison Of The Centroid Method And Four Standard Formulas For Estimating Log Volumes, Hakki Yavuz
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Centroid Samling was tested on 21 logs of Ash ( Fraxinus angustifolia subsp. oxycarpa), 38 logs of Spruce ( Picea orien-talis (L.) Link.), and 33 logs of Beech ( Fagus orientalis Lipsky.) all of which were measured in detail. The wolume of each log was estimated using Huber's, Smalian's, Newton, Riecke's, Hosfeld's formulas and Centroid Sampling. These estimates were compared with "true" volume of each log which was determined by aggregating the volumes of measured short sections (1 m.) using Smalian's formula. The mean error of the Centroid estimate of the log volumes was not significant for Fraxinus angustifoliasubsp. oxycarpa, …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this research, the aims were to determine the flower quality and yield of Alstroemeria 'Regina', were grown under 12, 14 and 16 hours by employing the natural day and two different light intensities (first level light intensity: min.90, max.678 lux; second level light intensity: min. l04, max. 888 lux) with high-pressure sodium lamps in greenhouse conditions. Plants were grown under natural photoperiod conditions. One year old plants, maximum flower productivity figure (210) were obtained by che treatment of 16 hour long day photoperiods. On two years old plants the treatment of 12 hour photoperiods increased their flower productivity 310 …
Determination Of Hydraulic Performances Of In-Line Emitters, Bülent Özeki̇ci̇, Sefer Bozkurt
Determination Of Hydraulic Performances Of In-Line Emitters, Bülent Özeki̇ci̇, Sefer Bozkurt
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The efficiency of trickle irrigation systems depends directly on the uniformity with which water is discharged from the emission devices throughout the system. Ideally, all emitters in the system should discharge equal amounts of water. One major cause of flow rate difference between two identical emitters from the same manufacturer is the manufacturing variation. In this study, manufacturers' rated discharges and coefficient of manufacturing variation values were compared with tested values for various in-line emitters. Discharge rates from 12 different types of trickle irrigation emitters were collected at six different operating pressure levels. Pressure compensating emitters were tested at 50, …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Examining of root system of maize is quite difficult and it takes a lot of time under field conditions. Because of this, the study abcıut maize reformation on root properties are not enough. Using the new method to determine root magnitude is an important subject for maize breeders in recent years. The value of root pulling resistance that is measured by using computer aided machines, can give some information about root system of plant. In this study, an important variation was obtained between 15 hybrid maize varieties due to the rcıot pulling resistance. The root pulling resistance of genotypes changes …

Problems Encountered In The Irrigated And Non-Irrigated Areas Of The Lower Seyhan Plain And Recommendations For Solution: A Case Study, Mahmut Çeti̇n, Hasan Özcan
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems encountered in the irrigated and non-irrigated areas of Lower Seyhan Plain which coveres 213 200 ha land and has a great agricultural potential for Turkish economy. In the irrigated areas; it has been determined that actual cropping pattern is quite different from the proposed one, and irrigation ratio varied between 66 and 86 %. Although drainage problems still exist in 50 % of groundwater observation area, lands with groundwater salinity Ievels more than 5 000 \mumhos/cm cover only 4-5 % of these areas. Also, recently installed closed-conduit drains have improved …

Wooden materials have been used for decoration and building element both indoors and outdoors. One of the most important problem in wood finishing has been that naturel appearence of wood and varnish coating couldn't be preserved sufficiently against outdoor effects. In this research, cellulosic, synthetic, acid catalyzed and polyurethan varnishes and synthetic opaque white paint was examined by using on the beech (Fagus orientalis L.), pine (Pinus silvestris L.), oak (Quercus petreae L.), castanea (Castanea sativa M.) wood panels. Experiments was conducted in Ankara. Beginning in 1993 a total of five experimental finishes on the four different panels have been …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, to assess the environmental pollution damages to agriculture the case of TÜGSAS and KBI industries were chosen. For this aim, change-in-productivity, preventive/defensive expenditures and contingent valuation approaches are applied to the selected case for assessing the pollution damage. The result indicates that the value of pollution damages to major agricultural crops in 1994 are estimated as 70.8 billion TL in Tekkeköy region. It has been determined that there is an inverse relationship between the crop losses ratio and the distance from the pollution sources. The minimum value of damages to environment caused by TÜGSAS and KBI is …
