Determination Of The Effect Of Fosetyl-Al Against Citrus Gummosis Disease Caused By Phytophthora Citrophthora(Smith And Smith) Leonian, Ali̇ Erkiliç, Yeter Canihoş
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study the effect of fosetyl-Al against citrus root not and gummosis caused by Phytophthora citrophthora was investigated. The results showed that fosetyl-Al protected citrus from the disease at least for one year. It was found that two fungicide applications sufficiently protected the trees against citrus gummosis. No significant differences were obtained were obtained at two fungiciede dosages, 160 g a.i./100L and 200 g a.i./100L, in all applications. When the pathogen was inoculated two weeks before fosetyl-Al, the infection area was diminished and with time had complete recovery with callus formation. Thus, fosetyl-Al was shown to have a curative …

Some Characteristics Of Polyphenol Oxidase And Peroxidase From Taro (Colocasia Antiquorum), Ahmet Yemeni̇ci̇oğlu, Mehmet Özkan, Beki̇r Cemeroğlu
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The heat inactivation kinetics of taro polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD) in the temperature range of 50°-80°C followed the first-order kinetic model. Both enzymes possessed two isoenzymes with varying heat stabilities. In the range of 60°-70°C, heat stable isoenzymes accounted for 33-34% of POD and 67-72% of PPO. E a and z values of heat stable isoenzymes were, respectively, 19.4 kcal.mol -1 and 25.9°C for POD, and 21 kcal.mol -1 and 25.5°C for PPO. The pH optimum was 5.9 for POD and 6.5 for PPO. POD was densely located on the surface of taro tubers whereas PPO was located …

Effect Of Salinity On Phosphorus Induced Zinc Deficency In Pepper ( Capsicum Annuuml.) Plants, Aydin Güneş, Ali̇ İnal, Mehmet Alpaslan, Yakup Çikili
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The combined effects of NaCl salinity and increasing rates of P on the Zn nutrition of pepper were studied. The applied P increased fruit yield in the absence of salinity, but decreased it in the presence of salinity. Fresh and dry weights of the plants were increased by the applied P and decreased by salinity. Both salinity and increasing levels of P (except 300 mg kg -1 ) decreased the Zn concentrations and Zn uptake of the plants. Zinc deficiency symptoms were observed at P levels of 300 and 500 mg kg -1 , a result which was more pronounced …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This investigation was designed to improve the fire-resistance properties of polyethlene glycole (PEG-400) and some water repellent solutions used to improve the flammability properties of wood. For this reason, samples from Scotch pine wood were impregnated according to ASTM-D 1413-76 boric acid, borax, sodium perbo-rate diluted or dissolved in PEG-400 were used as a preservative materials, and paraffin, styrene, methylmethacrylate and wax were used as a water repellent materials. It was found that, compounds contained boron increased the water resistance properties and water repellents materials resulted in the same decreasing the flammability behavior of wood.

The Effects Of Different Preservation Chemicals And Finishing On Wood Combustion Properties In Pinus Sylvestrisl. And Castanea Sativa Mill., Yalçin Örs, Musa Atar, Hüseyi̇n Peker
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In this study, changes in combustion properties in solid wood treated with different chemicals and varnishes were investigated. Wood samples prepared from Scotch pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.) and chestnut ( Castanea sativa Mill.) were impregnated with tanalith-CBC, water repellent (WR) solutions + synthetic varnish and WR + polyurethane varnish. Afterwards, synthetic and polyurethane varnishes were applied to the surfaces. Varnishing had the initial effect of fire retardation in both Scotch pine and chestnut impregnated with tanalith-CBS. Loss of weight was found to be 20% in chestnut samples and 13% in Scotch pine samples. However, varnishes did not affect combustion …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The objective of this study was to determine the influence of selected soil properties on the relative strength of individual oil aggregates against crushing forces. Soil aggregates were crushed between a flat surface and a flat plate connected to a pocket penetrometer. Significant relationships were found between dry-aggregate stability and the clay content, sand content, CEC and ESP of the soils studied. There was also a significant positive correlation between dry-aggregate stability and wet-aggregate stability (r=0.94**). No significant relationships were found between dry-aggregate stability and silt content, organic matter content, CaCO 3 content or pH. Stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated …

Comparing Tillage Techniques By Using A New Infiltration Methodfatih Topaloğlu, Fati̇h Topaloğlu
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
A one-year field trial in Italy was carried out for comparing tillage systems such as 50 cm chiselling (CH), 40 cm plow-till (PT40) and 20 cm plow-till (PT20) according to results of a new developed infiltration method. Ponded infiltration rates were measured to obtain the field saturated hydraulic conductivity (K fs ) using single ring infiltrometers on six dates with six replications in three sites on a sandy clayey loam soil. In both PT20 and CH plots, K fs after tillage increased temporarily to a value of about 4 and 9 times greater than that observed before tillage, respectively. However, …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The aim of this research was to determine the effects of bleaching chemicals on the bending strength of wood. For this purpose, sodium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide + calcium hydroxide + hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid were applied to pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) and oak (Quercus petraea spp.) for bleaching. The results indicate that the hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid solutions caused the greatest decrease in the bending strength of the woods used in the experiment.

Detection Of A New Medium For Budwood Culture In Vitro Of Citrus, Gülşen Şaş Sertkaya, Ahmet Çinar
Detection Of A New Medium For Budwood Culture In Vitro Of Citrus, Gülşen Şaş Sertkaya, Ahmet Çinar
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The transfer of new and quality citrus species and cultivars from one country or growing area to another may lead to the introduction of new pests and diseases. Therefore the import and direct production of citrus budwood without adequate control measures has a high risk. The citrus virus and virus-like disease agents can be successfully eliminated using the shoot-tip grafting (STG) technique which is routinely used to obtain virus-free plants in citrus improvement programs in major citrus-growing countries. Many methods are used to obtain flushes as a source of scion material for STG in vitro. The budwood culture in vitro …
