A total of 1,944 mixed sex growing-finishing pigs (PIC; 337 × 1050; initial BW of 49.9 ± 1.18 lb) were used in a 131-d growth trial to determine the effects of increasing added xylanase xylanase in adequate diets on grow-finish pig growth performance and carcass characteristics. Pens were assigned to 1 of 6 treatments in a randomized complete block design with BW as a blocking factor. There were 12 replicate pens per treatment and 27 pigs per pen. A total of 140 weanling pigs (DNA 241 × 600, initially 12.2 ± 0.02 lb) were used in a 32-d study evaluating the effects of increasing dietary iron from either iron sulfate (FeSO4) or a micronized, agglomerated ferrous carbonate (FeCO3) on nursery pig growth performance and blood criteria. The micronized form of FeCO3is designed to improve nursery pig growth performance and blood iron status. Vitamins are generally added to swine diets in concentrations well above their requirement estimates to provide a generous margin of safety. However, with the increase in vitamin prices in 2017, there was a need to re-evaluate suggested vitamin additions. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare two premixes with different vitamin concentrations on growth performance and carcass characteristics of grow-finish pigs reared in a commercial environment. A study was performed to evaluate the effects of storing three commercially available phytase products for 90 d, simulating summer conditions on phytase stability, growth performance, and bone mineralization of nursery pigs. A total of 1,080 nursery pigs (PIC 280 ×1050, initially 13.0 ± 2.38 lb BW) were housed in 3 commercial research rooms and used in a 46-d study to determine the effects of increasing standardized total tract digestible (STTD) phosphorus (P) concentrations in diets with and without phytase on growth performance and percentage bone ash. Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) source and soybean meal (SBM) level on growth performance of late nursery pigs. A total of 1,064 and 1,011 pigs (PIC 280 × 1050), initially 23.1 and 24.1 lb body weight (BW), were used in Exp. 1 and 2, respectively, with 21 to 27 pigs per pen. A total of 2,880 pigs (PIC 327 × L42; initial BW 11.4 lb) were used in a 35-d growth performance trial evaluating the effects of dietary electrolyte balance (dEB) on growth performance of nursery pigs. A total of 360 weanling pigs (Line 400 × 200; DNA Genetics, Columbus, NE, initially 13.0 lb) were used in a 28-d trial to evaluate the effects of Zn source and level on nursery pig growth performance. Each treatment had 8 replicate pens with 5 pigs per pen.
