Mechanisms Of Regulation Of Tau Ires Mediated Translation, Niza Nemkul
Mechanisms Of Regulation Of Tau Ires Mediated Translation, Niza Nemkul
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
The translation of most eukaryotic mRNAs occurs in a cap-dependent manner. However, a subset of mRNAs are capable of initiating translation in a cap-independent manner by utilizing sequences in their 5’ UTR called IRES. It was previously shown that the 5’ UTR of the tau mRNA contains an IRES. In this study I show that IRES dependent translation of tau IRES is regulated at multiple levels in order to regulate the expression of the tau protein.
Tau protein is ubiquitously expressed but is concentrated in the brain. In this study, I utilized neural and non-neural cell lines to show that …
Characterization Of Stem Cell Turnover In A Living Epithelial Bilayer, Elizabeth Sumner
Characterization Of Stem Cell Turnover In A Living Epithelial Bilayer, Elizabeth Sumner
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Homeostatic maintenance of epithelia requires the renewal and replacement of old or dying cells while sustaining a functional barrier. Imbalance between cell production and elimination are hypothesized to underlie many pathological conditions. However, our knowledge of cell turnover within living tissues remains largely restricted to static images due to the limited ability to study epithelia in their native context. Here we report that clearance of damaged basal stem cells promotes compensatory proliferation of neighboring stem cells to maintain overall population numbers in a bilayered epithelium. Time-lapse imaging and electron microscopy experiments reveal that dying cells are rapidly cleared as nearby …
The Thioredoxin Trx-1 Regulates The Major Oxidative Stress Response Transcription Factor, Skn-1, In Caenorhabditis Elegans, Katie C. Mccallum
The Thioredoxin Trx-1 Regulates The Major Oxidative Stress Response Transcription Factor, Skn-1, In Caenorhabditis Elegans, Katie C. Mccallum
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
The ability to respond to hostile environmental conditions is critical for the survival of an organism. Oxidative stress is an adverse state in which reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulate to a harmful level and, if left unresolved, can lead to cellular dysfunction and organismal disease. Sophisticated detoxification systems, characterized by a battery of enzymatic antioxidants, are utilized to neutralize ROS thereby reducing stress. However, ROS are also purposefully produced by designated cellular enzymes to facilitate the signaling and regulation of critical physiological processes. Therefore, both the production and neutralization of ROS must be tightly controlled. Indeed, the expression of detoxification …
The Roles Of Malt1 In Nf-Κb Activation And Solid Tumor Progression, Deng Pan
The Roles Of Malt1 In Nf-Κb Activation And Solid Tumor Progression, Deng Pan
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
The transcription factor NF-κB plays a central role in many aspects of biological processes and diseases, such as inflammation and cancer. Although it has been suggested thatNF-κB is critical in tumorigenesis and tumor progression, the molecular mechanism by which NF-κB is activated in solid tumor remains largely unknown. In the current work, we focus on growth factor receptor-induced NF-κB activation and tumor progression, including epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-induced NF-κB in lung cancer and heregulin receptor (HER2)-induced NF-κB in breast cancer. We found that Mucosa-associated lymphoma translocation protein 1 (MALT1), also known as paracaspase, is required for EGFR-induced NF-κB activation …
Trim24 Orchestrates Metabolic Reprogramming And Emt In Breast Cancer, Kaushik Thakkar
Trim24 Orchestrates Metabolic Reprogramming And Emt In Breast Cancer, Kaushik Thakkar
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
In this dissertation, I report the oncogenic functions of an epigenetic regulator Tripartite Motif Protein 24 (TRIM24) coupled with metabolic reprogramming and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. TRIM24 was first established by our laboratory as a previously unknown negative regulator of p53 via its RING domain, as a co-regulator of nuclear receptors and a PHD/Bromodomain reader of specific histone modifications. TRIM24 expression correlates with poor prognosis of breast cancer, but the mechanisms of TRIM24-mediated oncogenesis are unknown. In the first part of my thesis, I found that TRIM24 is aberrantly expressed in early stages of breast cancer progression. …
Investigating Metastatic Lineage In Colorectal Cancer By Single Cell Dna Sequencing, Marco Leung
Investigating Metastatic Lineage In Colorectal Cancer By Single Cell Dna Sequencing, Marco Leung
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Metastasis is the primary cause of human cancer deaths. Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) show only an 11% 5-year survival rate, compared to those without local or distant metastases (92% 5-year survival rate). Understanding the CRC tumor evolution may provide valuable insights on how to improve treatment in patients with mCRC. However, the genomic basis of metastasis has been difficult to study, in part due to the extensive intratumor heterogeneity at both the primary and metastatic tumor sites, and the low frequency of subclones with metastatic potential. Previous studies have applied conventional bulk next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods, which have …
Rerouting Pre-Existing Host Vaccine-Induced Immunity To Wards Breast Cancer, Bharat Kumar Reddy Chaganty
Rerouting Pre-Existing Host Vaccine-Induced Immunity To Wards Breast Cancer, Bharat Kumar Reddy Chaganty
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
For decades, investigators have attempted to activate the immune system to prevent cancer metastasis or recurrence; however, owing to host immune tolerance to cancer antigens and the immunosuppressive environment at tumor sites, many such attempts have failed. The recent success of anti-CTLA4, PD-L1 and PD-1 antibodies targeting immune checkpoint pathways and HPV vaccines has renewed hope that patient survival can be increased through enhancing T-cell responses. We propose to test a novel approach that may bypass host immune tolerance to cancer cells. We hypothesize that host T-cell immunity acquired through vaccination against or natural infection with infectious diseases—e.g., influenza—can be …

Accurate Mutation Annotation And Functional Prediction Enhance The Applicability Of -Omics Data In Precision Medicine, Tenghui Chen
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Clinical sequencing has been recognized as an effective approach for enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of cancer patient management and therefore achieve the goals of personalized therapy. However, the accuracy of large scale sequencing data in clinics has been constrained by many different aspects, such as clinical detection, annotation and interpretation of the variants that are observed in clinical sequencing data. In my Ph.D thesis work, I mainly investigated how to comprehensively and efficiently apply high dimensional -omics data to enhance the capability of precision cancer medicine. Following this motivation, my dissertation has been focused on two important topics in …
Cll Metabolism Is Regulated By Prognostic Factors, Modulated By Stroma And Abrogated By Pi3k Inhibition, Hima Vangapandu
Cll Metabolism Is Regulated By Prognostic Factors, Modulated By Stroma And Abrogated By Pi3k Inhibition, Hima Vangapandu
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Metabolism of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a disease characterized by the relentless accumulation of mature B cells has been little explored. Bone marrow stromal cells provide a survival benefit to CLL cells, in part through PI3K/AKT pathway. Compared with proliferative B-cell lines, metabolic fluxes of oxygen and lactate were low in quiescent malignant B lymphocytes from CLL patients. Glycolysis (extracellular acidification rate, ECAR) was consistently low in CLL samples, but oxygen consumption (OCR) varied considerably. Higher OCR was associated with poor prognostic factors such as ZAP 70 positivity, unmutated IgVH, high β2M levels, and higher Rai stage. Co-culture with the …
Functional Regulation Of Yap By Aurora A Kinase In Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, Shih-Shin Chang
Functional Regulation Of Yap By Aurora A Kinase In Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, Shih-Shin Chang
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
The Yes-associated protein (YAP) is an effector that transduces the output of the Hippo pathway to transcriptional modulation. Considering the role of YAP in cancers, this protein has emerged as a key node in malignancy development. In this study, we determined that Aurora A kinase acts as a positive regulator for YAP-mediated transcriptional machinery. Specifically, YAP associates with Aurora A predominantly in the nucleus. Activation of Aurora A can impinge on YAP activity through direct phosphorylation. Moreover, aberrant expression of YAP and Aurora A signaling is highly correlated with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). We herein provide evidence to establish the …
Nipt Results Indicative Of Maternal Neoplasms: Genetic Counselors' Preferences And Attitudes, Meagan E. Giles
Nipt Results Indicative Of Maternal Neoplasms: Genetic Counselors' Preferences And Attitudes, Meagan E. Giles
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Performing non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) on a pregnant woman with a chromosomally abnormal neoplasm may incidentally lead to the diagnosis of cancer due to the coexistence of circulating tumor and placental DNA. Published information regarding NIPT’s accuracy for neoplasm screening is limited, and guidance for patient management is currently lacking. This challenges clinicians’ ability to counsel patients regarding the implications of these results, which often is the responsibility of a genetic counselor. Over three hundred board-eligible/certified genetic counselors were surveyed regarding their awareness, preferences, and attitudes towards NIPT’s ability to indicate maternal neoplasms. Despite 95% of this cohort being aware …
The Role Of Amp-Activated Protein Kinase (Ampk) In Tumorigenesis, Fei Han
The Role Of Amp-Activated Protein Kinase (Ampk) In Tumorigenesis, Fei Han
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
AMPK plays a central role in controlling cellular and whole body energy level. Increasing studies have also discovered the diverse function of AMPK in cancer, such as autophagy and mitochondria biogenesis. However, how AMPK promotes cancer progression is still not clear. Here, we show that AMPK is essential for EGF-induced Akt activation, Glut1 expression, and glucose uptake. AMPK is also required for various stresses induced Akt activation and promote cell survival, including hypoxia and glucose deprivation. In addition, we found glucose deprivation-induced VEGF expression and secretion is also depend on AMPK, which may contribute to angiogenesis of surrounding endothelial cell …
The Role Of Gdf15 In Ovarian Cancer, Daisy I. Izaguirre
The Role Of Gdf15 In Ovarian Cancer, Daisy I. Izaguirre
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF15) is induced in situations such as stress, inflammation, treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as other therapeutic agents. As a secreted protein, GDF15 is seen as a potential biomarker in several types of cancer as well as in other diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. In ovarian cancer, high GDF15 serum levels correspond to poor survival. It has further been shown to be expressed at higher levels in serum in ovarian cancer patients post-chemotherapy than pre-chemotherapy.
The overall 5-year survival for ovarian cancer is 46%, as a result of late diagnosis …
Organization And Regulation Of Proteins Required For Initiation Of Cell Division In Escherichia Coli, Veronica W. Rowlett
Organization And Regulation Of Proteins Required For Initiation Of Cell Division In Escherichia Coli, Veronica W. Rowlett
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
The process of bacterial cell division relies on the assembly of multiple proteins to form the cell division machine, or “divisome.” FtsZ, a bacterial homolog of eukaryotic tubulin, forms a ring-like structure, the “Z ring,” at midcell and serves as a scaffold for divisome assembly and potential force generator during synthesis of the division septum. Both FtsA, a bacterial homolog of eukaryotic actin, and ZipA, a single-pass transmembrane protein, anchor the Z ring to the inner membrane, are required for the localization of other divisome proteins to midcell, and likely influence the assembly state of FtsZ. Positioning of the Z …
Preeclampsia: The Roles Of Acute Inflammation And Intrauterine Stress, Nicholas Parchim
Preeclampsia: The Roles Of Acute Inflammation And Intrauterine Stress, Nicholas Parchim
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe, acute disease of pregnancy affecting approximately 8% of pregnant women after week 20 of gestation. PE is characterized by hypertension and renal damage reflected by proteinuria and has significant morbidity to both mother and fetus. Maternal symptoms range from headaches, nausea, edema, to visual changes, but once maternal symptoms present, damage to the fetus has begun. Mothers who progress untreated through the disease can also experience a condition called eclampsia characterized by seizure, coma, and, ultimately, death. PE-affected newborns experience features similar to prematurity—abnormal lung and renal development, intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), and, possibly, fetal …
The Novel Regulation Of Histone Modification In Cancer Development, Xian Zhang
The Novel Regulation Of Histone Modification In Cancer Development, Xian Zhang
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Dynamic changes in histone acetylation by various physiological cues play important roles in gene transcription and cancer. However, the cellular signaling underlying this regulation is not well understood. Here, we show that, in a glucose dependent manner, E3 ubiquitin ligase NEDD4 ubiquitinates histone H3 on previously unstudied lysine (K) 23/36/37 residues, which specifically recruits histone acetyltransferase (HAT) GCN5 for subsequent H3 acetylation. Genome-wide analysis of chromatin immunoprecipitation followed by sequencing (ChIP-seq) data sets reveals that NEDD4 regulates glucose-induced H3K9 acetylation at transcription starting site (TSS) and enhancer regions. Integrative analysis of ChIP-seq and microarray data sets also reveals a consistent …
Characterization Of The Ato Gene Family In Alternative Carbon Metabolism, Heather A. Danhof
Characterization Of The Ato Gene Family In Alternative Carbon Metabolism, Heather A. Danhof
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
As a commensal colonizer and opportunistic pathogen, Candida albicans is the most clinically important human associated fungus. Systemic infection carries an unacceptably high mortality rate of ~40% in the growing population of immunocompromised individuals. Macrophages are important innate immune cells that limit the niches in the human body in which C. albicans can persist through phagocytic removal. However, following phagocytosis C. albicans readily escapes from the immune cell by differentiating into filamentous hyphae, a process that should be inhibited in the normally acidic phagolysosome. We have shown that C. albicans induces germination by neutralizing the phagolysosome. To better understand this …
The Notch Target Hes4 Promotes Osteosarcoma Tumor Growth And Metastasis By Inhibiting Osteogenic Differentiation, And Has Potential As A Prognostic Biomarker For Newly Diagnosed Patients With High Grade Osteosarcoma., Madonna Mcmanus
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Currently, there are no well-established prognostic biomarkers for osteosarcoma (OS) at the time of diagnosis. Although response to preoperative chemotherapy correlates with metastasis risk and overall survival, this information is obtained 3-4 months after the initial diagnosis. The major purpose of this study is to identify clinically relevant biomarkers that will allow for the stratification of patients into good or poor responders to chemotherapy at diagnosis. We also aim to understand the biology of these markers in OS pathogenesis. Because the development of OS is caused by genetic disruptions of osteogenic differentiation, we sought to identify pathways that are involved …
Gsk3Beta-Mediated Ezh2 Phosphorylation Suppresses Methylation Of H3k27 And Ezh2’S Oncogenic Functions, How-Wen Ko
Gsk3Beta-Mediated Ezh2 Phosphorylation Suppresses Methylation Of H3k27 And Ezh2’S Oncogenic Functions, How-Wen Ko
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
During the process of tumorigenesis, inactivation of tumor suppressors is a critical step. Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2), a histone methyltransferase and the enzymatic core subunit of polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), promotes cell growth and migration through catalyzing trimethylation of histone H3 at Lys 27 (H3K27me3) and plays an important role in tumorigenesis. Its expression can be controlled by phosphorylation. However, the regulation of EZH2 activity by tumor suppressor kinase is not well understood. Glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK3b), a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase, is involved in many cellular processes. GSK3b also participates in neoplastic transformation, tumor development …
In Vivo Kinome Screen Reveals Non-Canonical Cdk-Driven Metabolic Adaptation In Brain Metastasis, Frank J. Lowery Iii
In Vivo Kinome Screen Reveals Non-Canonical Cdk-Driven Metabolic Adaptation In Brain Metastasis, Frank J. Lowery Iii
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Brain metastasis, which frequently arises from breast cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, and colorectal cancer, remains a severely unmet medical need and its incidence continues to rise while treatment options remain palliative. To better understand the biology underlying its aggressive, incurable nature, I performed an unbiased in vivo kinome screen to identify potential driver kinases of experimental brain metastasis in a nude xenograft model using the human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. Several of the kinase pools led to decreased brain metastasis-specific survival in nude mice, shortening survival time by up to 50% relative to controls. Targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) was …

Process Mining Of Medication Revisions In Electronic Health Records, Deevakar Rogith
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Objective: The objective of this work is to develop process mining techniques for analysing Electronic Health Record (EHR) events in order to uncover factors contributing to the event, and understanding deviations in the process. We have outlined a method for combining data mining with expert review to model the EHR process and develop automated algorithms that can be used to detect potential deviations for a defined process.
Introduction: To analyse EHR events meaningfully, process mining can be applied to distil structured process description from a set of real executions. Process mining can be applied for 1) Discovery, 2) Conformance, and …
Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell-Mediated Humoral Autoimmunity, Stephanie M. Dorta-Estremera Ph.D.
Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell-Mediated Humoral Autoimmunity, Stephanie M. Dorta-Estremera Ph.D.
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Humoral autoimmunity is characterized by the breakdown of B cell immune tolerance to self-antigens and consequent production of pathogenic autoantibodies. Plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), a potent type I interferon (IFN-I) producer, have been linked to the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a prototypic systemic humoral autoimmune disease. However, the cellular events that stimulate the development of humoral autoimmunity as a result of pDC activation have not been characterized. Moreover, the B cell subset(s) responsible for the generation of autoantibodies remains to be clearly identified.
The immunization of DNA-containing amyloids into non-autoimmune mice triggers the activation of pDCs and induction …
Preventing Thymus Involution In K5.Cyclin D1 Transgenic Mice Sustains The Naïve T Cell Compartment With Age, Michelle L. Bolner
Preventing Thymus Involution In K5.Cyclin D1 Transgenic Mice Sustains The Naïve T Cell Compartment With Age, Michelle L. Bolner
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
The thymus maintains T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire diversity through perpetual release of self-MHC restricted naive T cells. However, thymus involution during the aging process reduces naïve T cell output, leading to defective immune responsiveness to newly encountered antigens. We have found that early thymus involution precipitates the age-associated shift favoring memory T cell dominancy in young control mice. Furthermore, we have shown that age-related thymus involution is prevented in mice expressing a keratin 5 promoter-driven Cyclin D1 (K5.D1) transgene in thymic epithelial cells (TECs). Thymopoiesis occurs normally in K5.D1 transgenic thymi and sustains T cell output to prevent the …
Identifying Protein Kinase Tbk1 As A Novel Inhibitor Of Intestinal Tumorigenesis, Amber L. Mathews
Identifying Protein Kinase Tbk1 As A Novel Inhibitor Of Intestinal Tumorigenesis, Amber L. Mathews
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer diagnosed in women and men, causing almost 600,000 annual deaths worldwide. There is a clear need to understand how CRC forms and progresses in order to improve the strategies of CRC prevention and therapy. A major factor that drives the development of CRC is genetic mutations that lead to activation of oncogenes and inactivation of tumor suppressor genes in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs). In addition, the initiation and progression of CRC involve environmental and immunological factors. In particular, chronic inflammatory conditions are known as an important risk factor for CRC. Intestinal …
In Vivo Functional Significance Of Ccat2 Long Non-Coding Rna In Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Maitri Y. Shah
In Vivo Functional Significance Of Ccat2 Long Non-Coding Rna In Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Maitri Y. Shah
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Long non-coding RNAs form the largest part of the mammalian non-coding transcriptome and control gene expression at various levels including chromatin modification, transcriptional and post-transcriptional processing. Although the underlying molecular mechanisms are not yet entirely understood, lncRNAs are implicated in initiation and progression of several cancers. CCAT2 is a lncRNA that spans the highly conserved 8q24 region associated with increased risk for various cancers. CCAT2 has been shown to play an important role in inducing chromosomal instability and supporting cell proliferation and cell cycle arrest. However, a causal role of CCAT2 in initiation of tumorigenesis and the importance of G/T …
Role Of Stat3 In Human Nk Cell Functions, Prasad V. Phatarpekar
Role Of Stat3 In Human Nk Cell Functions, Prasad V. Phatarpekar
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Natural Killer (NK) cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes, which play a critical role in the immune response against malignant cells and microbial infections. NK cells are equipped with activating receptors, which upon detecting ligands expressed on stressed cells induce cytolytic activity of NK cells. Stimulation of NK cell proliferation and priming of NK cytolytic capability are accomplished by cytokines, which mediate their signals mainly through JAK-STAT signaling pathway. Previously, we found that K562 cells genetically modified to express membrane bound IL-21 (mbIL-21), which predominantly activates STAT3, induce robust expansion and activation of human NK cells. Further investigations revealed role of STAT3 …
Mobilization Of Adipose Stromal Cells In Obesity And Cancer By Sparc And Its Proteolytic Isoforms, Chieh Tseng
Mobilization Of Adipose Stromal Cells In Obesity And Cancer By Sparc And Its Proteolytic Isoforms, Chieh Tseng
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Obesity increases cancer risk and progression as shown by epidemiologic studies. However, the underlying pathophysiology remained unclear. Adipose stromal cells (ASC) are adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal progenitors, abundant in white adipose tissue (WAT). In this study, we show that the ASC pool is expanded in obesity and is associated with promoted tumor growth. Next, by using a chimeric GFP-RFP bone marrow transplant model, we observed higher tumor infiltrating cells with ASC phenotype in obese mice compared to lean. Consistently, systemic circulating ASC frequency is six fold higher in tumor-bearing obese mice compared to lean. The tumor infiltrating cells with ASC phenotype …
Determining The Mechanisms Generating Soluble Il-15 Complexes, Scott Anthony
Determining The Mechanisms Generating Soluble Il-15 Complexes, Scott Anthony
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
A diverse assortment of infectious pathogens and TLR agonists enhance the expression of Interleukin (IL)-15. Additionally, inducing lymphopenia enhances anti-tumor responses in an IL-15-dependent manner. Paradoxically, despite the limited expression of IL-15 during homeostasis, the role of IL-15 during the steady state is well-known, while its roles during inflammation and infections remain largely undefined. IL-15 uses a unique method of production and presentation to support the development and homeostasis of NK and CD8 T cells. IL-15 is produced with its high affinity IL-15Rα and this IL-15Rα/IL-15 complex is shuttled to the cell surface where it is presented in-trans or cleaved …

The Tumor Suppressor Notch Inhibits Head And Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Hnscc) Tumor Growth And Progression By Modulating Proto-Oncogenes Axl And Ctnnal1 (Α-Catulin), Shhyam Moorthy, Shhyam Moorthy
Dissertations and Theses (Open Access)
Background: Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common malignancy worldwide, with roughly 300,000 cancer related deaths occurring globally each year. The survival of patients with HNSCC has not changed significantly over the past decade, leading investigators to search for promising molecular targets. To identify new treatment targets and biomarkers that could better guide therapy, we previously characterized the genomic alterations from primary HNSCC patient samples. We were among the first to discover that NOTCH1 is one of the most frequently mutated genes in this cancer type. The spectrum of inactivating NOTCH1 mutations in HNSCC suggested …

Advisory Professor: Garth Powis, D. Phil
Unique to proliferating cancer cells is the observation that their increased need for energy is provided by a high rate of glycolysis followed by lactic acid fermentation in a process known as the Warburg Effect, a process many times less efficient than oxidative phosphorylation employed by normal cells to satisfy a similar energy demand [1]. This high rate of glycolysis occurs regardless of the concentration of oxygen in the cell and …
