A summary of 2,127 mouse genes linked to cilia by previous high-throughput approaches (reviewed in Inglis et al., 2006), published studies of individual gene products, or by McClintock et al. 2008. Each gene was viewed at Entrez Gene to verify and update the Gene ID and Gene Symbol. Each was also searched against PubMed (Gene Symbol AND (cili* OR flagel*)) for published evidence linking the mouse gene or putative orthologs to cilia or flagella. Urban-to-rural gradients intersect with other, often unmeasured, environmental gradients that may influence or even supersede species responses. Here we use coastal-to-interior and urban-rural gradients to investigate woodland ant response (physiological thermal tolerance, community structure and spring phenology) to two overlapping thermal gradients, the Great Lakes (Erie and Ontario) and the Buffalo, NY urban center (USA). Woodland ant physiological and behavioral responses, and community responses, shifted along the coastal-to-interior and urban-rural gradients, but they were generally best explained by lake effects (though urban ants tolerated higher temperatures than rural ants). Release From Intraspecific Competition Promotes Dominance Of A Non-Native Invader, Robert Warren

Species can coexist through equalizing (similar fitness abilities) and stabilizing (unique niche requirements) mechanisms – assuming that intraspecific competition imposes more limitation than interspecific competition. Non-native species often de-stabilize coexistence, suggesting that they bring either a fitness advantage or a distinct niche requirement. We tested whether greater fitness or unique niche requirements best explained a successful North American invasion by the European Myrmica rubra ant. North American invaded-range M. rubra aggressively sting and occur in enormous numbers (suggesting a fitness advantage), yet our study site has a history of anthropogenic disturbance that might favor M. rubra (suggesting a unique niche). …

The database compiles data (used in Tarquinio et al. 2018, ISME Journal, accepted for publication) obtained from nitrogen stable isotope analysis (IRMS) and Nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (NanoSIMS) of seagrass (Posidonia sinuosa) leaves and associated microorganisms. Row data (IRMS) are presented for bulk tissue 15N enrichment of P. sinuosa leaves at different times of incubation (plotted as bar chart in the manuscript), as well as the enrichment detected through the drawing of regions of interest (ROI) from NanoSIMS image analysis and plotted as box plots in the manuscript.

Samples were collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico on cruises DP02, DP03 and DP04 from August 2015 - August 2016. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) data were integrated with those from population dynamics and stable isotope analysis to provide evidence for effects of oil exposure to deep pelagic communities. The target fish species include Argyropelecus spp., Ceratoscopelus warmingii, Chauliodus sloani, Diaphus spp., Lampanyctus alatus, Lepidophanes guentheri, and Sigmops elongatus. Larval catch data after the oil spill is being used to improve our understanding of the causes of temporal variability as it relates to the Deep Water Horizon oil spill (DWHOS). Bongo and neuston net tows were conducted at 48 stations in both June and July, 2015 in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Cruise data collected at each site included latitude/longitude, date, time and environmental data (temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen). This data set includes the biological PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) data of target species collected during the DP01 (May 1-8, 2015) and DP02 cruises (August 8-21, 2015) in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The target fish species include Ceratoscopelus warmingii, Chaulidus spp., Diaphus spp., Argyropelecus spp, Lampanyctus alatus, and Sigma elongatum. Also, analysis of shrimp (Acanthephyra purpurea) and cephalopod (Grimalditeuthis bonplandi, Histioteuthis corona, Japetella diaphana) samples were conducted. PAHs were analyzed following modified EPA method 8270D and QA/QC strict protocols. Detection and quantification of PAHs were performed using a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometric detector (GC/MS/MS).

Forage Climate Change Experiment Research Data
Approximately 40 tall fescue tillers were randomly collected and frozen from each of the 20 treatment plots.
Tillers were cut at 7.6 cm above ground level and tested for the presence of the Epichloe endophyte using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Tillers from each plot were sorted into 'infected' vs 'uninfected' groups, lyophilized, and ground through a 1mm screen using a Cyclotec 1093 mill.
Ground material from the endophyte infected tillers was analyzed for ergot and loline alkaloids in the lab of Lowell Bush at the University of Kentucky, Plant and Soil Sciences Dept.

Postural control and joint position sense are essential for safely undertaking leisure and professional activities, particularly at high altitude. We tested whether exposure to a 12-day trek with a gradual ascent to high altitude impairs postural control and joint position sense. This was a repeated measures observational study of 12 military service personnel (28±4 years). The database compiles published data (in Arias-Ortiz et al., 2018) on biogeochemical characteristics (density, organic carbon, stable carbon isotopes and sediment grain size) of soils underneath seagrass meadows in Shark Bay, Western Australia. Pb-210 concentrations of the first 20 cm are included along with C-14 raw ages. The dataset compiles data for a total of 49 cores, 25 - 300 cm-long (11 cores with Pb-210 and C-14 data).

Plant survivorship depends on biotic and abiotic factors that vary at local and regional scales. This survivorship, in turn, has cascading effects on community composition and the physical structure of vegetation. Survivorship of native plant species is variable among populations planted in environmentally stressful habitats like urban roofs, but the degree to which factors at different spatial scales affect survivorship in urban systems is not well understood. This dataset contains annual metal concentrations for the years 2009-2011 within the otoliths of six, offshore Gulf of Mexico fishes: Red Grouper, Epinephelus morio; Red Porgy, Pagrus pagrus; Red Snapper, Lutjanus campechanus; Southern Hake, Urophycis floridana; Tilefish, Lopholatilus chamaeleonticeps; and Yellowedge Grouper, Hyporthodus flavolimbatus. Fish were collected from the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, from approximately the Louisiana Shelf to the West Florida Shelf. For each sample, a suite of 9 isotopes was measured within fish otoliths: 24Mg, 51V, 53Cr, 57Fe, 59Co, 60Ni, 63Cu, 64Zn, and 208Pb. On July 23, 2013 a marine gas rig (Hercules 265) ignited in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The rig burned out of control for several days before being extinguished. We conducted a rapid-response sampling campaign near Hercules 265 after the fire to ascertain if sediments and fishes were polluted above earlier baseline levels. Sediment cores were collected to the SE of the rig at a distance of ~0.2 km, 8 km and 18 km using a multicorer, and demersal fishes were collected from ~0.2 to 8 km SE of the rig using a longline (508 hooks). A non-linear lysis term for simulation of K. brevis HAB termination on the West Florida Shelf is introduced, with the assumption that particle encounters of planktonic microalgae and bacteria can be described as the square of the phytoplankton biomass. This formulation also accounts for nutrient-limitation of K. brevis as a precondition for susceptibility to bacterial and viral attack, and potentially programmed cell death. Two model simulations were run of linear and non-linear lysis cases. Hydrocarbons In Deep-Sea Sediments Following The 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill In The Northeast Gulf Of Mexico, Isabel Romero

High-resolution analyses of sediment cores collected in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) were conducted to reconstruct the concentration, composition and flux of hydrocarbons to deep-sea (pre-2010, 2010, and 2011) in the DeSoto Canyon, Northeast Gulf of Mexico. Specifically, we analyzed total organic carbon (TOC), aliphatic, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs), and short-lived radionuclide (234Th, 210Pb) compounds at 2 mm and 5 mm core intervals to elucidate possible hydrocarbon sources and transport pathways to sediments during the time covered in this study.
