Raw meat-based diets (RMBDs) are emerging pet foods that pose food safety risks because of the potential presence of pathogens that could cause illness to humans. In this research, the microbial quality of select RMBD products sold by pet food companies online and the use of chemical antimicrobials to reduce the microbial load in chicken liver, a common RMBD ingredient, were evaluated.

This study was carried out to investigate the species identification and enumeration of some pathogenic microorganisms before and after feeding the full ration contaminated by predatory starling bird herds on 5 different days in the dairy cattle farm in Aksaray. At the end of the study, the average number of E.coli obtained from the feed samples taken before the arrival of starlings was 6.46 log cfu/g, while the number of E.coli obtained from the feed taken after starling birds flocked to the feed was found as 6.80 log cfu/g. Salmonellosis caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella is the second most common zoonotic infection worldwide. The major foodborne route of this infection is the consumption of contaminated poultry meat and egg. Therefore, monitoring and control of Salmonella agents in poultry populations is critical to reduce the risks for public health. In the poultry industry, the most common serotypes in Salmonella infections are Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serotype Enteritidis and Typhimurium.
