Microenvironmental Effects Of Erosion Control Treatments On Seedling Survival In A Southeastern Utah Salt Desert Area, Ross W. Wein
Microenvironmental Effects Of Erosion Control Treatments On Seedling Survival In A Southeastern Utah Salt Desert Area, Ross W. Wein
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
A study of the microclimate of erosion control treatments was carried out in two habitat types in a semiarid southeastern Utah, salt desert shrub area. The soils are highly eroded Mancos shale and support a low density of salt desert shrub species which offers little protection against high intensity summer convectional rainstorms.
Gully plugs and contour furrows had been installed by the Bureaus of Reclamation and Land Management to prevent runoff of soil laden water which results from these summer rainfalls. Formerly this sediment was carried to the Colorado River and deposited in Lake Powell.

Nitrogen Fertiliser Survey, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
THE DECEMBER, 1968 issue of the "Journal of Agriculture" included, as part of an article on the economics of nitrogen fertiliser use, a lift-out section for farmers to complete and return to the Journal.
In the lift-out, farmers were asked to calculate their fertiliser costs and answer a series of questions about the use of nitrogen on their farms.

Paspalum Vaginatum : For Salty Seepages And Lawns, C V. Malcolm, I. A. F. Laing
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
PASPALUM VAGINATUM, aptly termed "sea shore paspalum" has an amazing ability to thrive in wet salty situations. It is also a good lawn grass.
Seed of the grass is not available but it may easily be established by planting pieces.
This article reviews where and how the grass may be used.

Wildflowers Of The Geraldton District, E M. Bennett
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
THE wildflowers of Western Australia which have aroused such interest throughout the world are found largely in the south western corner of the State.
Within this area, and indeed in the drier areas also, certain districts are richer than others.
One example of this concentration of wildflowers occurs to the north and east of Geraldton.

Dormancy And Life Span Of Saffron Thistle Seeds, B J. Quinlivan, J. R. Pierce
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
RESEARCH in the Geraldton area has indicated that seeds of the saffron thistle (Carthamus lanatus) spread their germination over some seven years but most germinate in the first two years.
Factors influencing the rate of germination and the survival of seeds are the depth of burial and the presence of termites in the soil.

Survey Of The Arkansas Campanulaceae (Including The Lobeliaceae), Edwin B. Smith
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
This paper is a summary of the Campanulaceae of Arkansas, based on the material on file in the University of Arkansas herbarium. A key to the species is included, followed by an alphabetical listing by genus and species of the taxa in the Campanulaceae known to occur in the state. After each taxon, the following information is included in this order: blooming period (as indicated on our material), known distribution in general terms (NW-northwest, E-east, G-general, C- central, etc.), habitat, chromosome number (as reported in Darlington & Wylie, 1955; in the Index to Plant Chromosome Numbers, Vol. I.II, and Supplement; …

A New Rhinoceros From The Nebraska Miocene, Lloyd G. Tanner
A New Rhinoceros From The Nebraska Miocene, Lloyd G. Tanner
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
A new species of rhinoceros, Menoceras marslandensis, is here proposed. It is based upon a nearly complete skull from the upper part of the Marsland Formation, Hemingford Group (Miocene), of Box Butte County, Nebraska. The new species was probably derived from Menoceras arikarense (Barbour), collected from the Agate Springs Quarries (Arikaree Group, Harrison Formation) of Sioux County, Nebraska, with which both Diceratherium niobrarensis Peterson and D. cooki Peterson are likely synonymous. From Menoceras arikarense, the presumed ancestral stock, Menoceras marslandensis differs in possessing the following characters: (1) very long, fused but slightly cleft, nasals, with flattened, rugose areas …

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
This paper is a monographic revision of the bee subgenera Micrandrena Ashmead and Derandrena, new subgenus, of the genus Andrena in North America. Both subgenera occur in the New World and Micrandrena also occurs in the Old World. Twenty-eight species are treated, of which twelve are new: Andrena (Micrandrena) annectens, ishii, labergei, lamelliterga, lepidii, micheneri, Andrena (Derandrena) arctostaphylae, californiensis, hermosa, murietae, penutiani, viridissima. Thirteen names are placed in synonymy: Andrena semotula Cockerell with candidiformis Viereck and Cockerell; subtilicornis Viereck, nitidicornis Cockerell, chlorogaster nesiotes Timberlake, chlorogaster gavilanica Timberlake, radialis Timberlake, catalinica Cockerell with chlorogaster Viereck; vegana Viereck and Cockerell with illinoiensis …

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
A systematic study of the acarine subfamily Trouessartinae (except Trouessartia) of the family Proctophyllodidae is presented. Diagnoses are given for the subfamily, five named genera and four new genera. The named genera and their type species are: Allanalges Trouessart, 1886, A. podagricus (Trouessart), 1886; Calcealges Gaud, 1952, C. cyathoplax Gaud, 1952; Hemicalcealges Gaud and Mouchet, 1957, H. margaropygus (Gaud and Mouchet), 1957; Pseudalges Radford, 1950, Proctophyllodes (Pterocolus) analgoides Trouessart, 1885; and Trouessartia Canestrini, 1899, Dermaleichus corvinus Koch, 1840. New genera and their type species are: Arthrogynalges, A. biovoidatus, new species; Bicentralges, B. orientalis, new species; Neocalcealges, N. inattditus, new species; …

Two Feather Mite Genera (Analgoidea, Proctophyllodidae) From Birds Of The Families Oxyruncidae And Pipridae (Passeriformes, Tyranni), Warren T. Atyeo, J. Gaud
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
The genus Hemipterodectes Berla is redefined and the type species, H. squalocauda is figured. A new genus, Diproctophyllodes (type species, Proctophyllodes (Alloptes) dielytra Trouessert, 1885) is described; D. exquisita (Berla), 1959 is synomized with D. dielytra; and D. oxyrunci, new species, is described.
