Most producers realize that the weight of a heifer at freshening affects the amount of milk produced during the first lactation. One of the major areas of lost income to the dairy producer is in the reproductive performance of the dairy herd. These losses are often overlooked because they are indirect costs. In the U.S., approximately half of all hailstorms occur between March and May.
