New Locality Record Of Bar-Necked Keelback Fowlea Schnurrenbergeri (Kramer, 1977) In Northeastern Punjab, Pakistan, Mudassar Basri, Zohaib Nasar

Journal of Bioresource Management

The bar-necked keelback snake plays a vital ecological role as a natural pest controller, effectively regulating populations of fish, frogs, and rodents. Through their predatory behavior, they contribute significantly to maintaining ecological balance by managing the numbers of these smaller creatures, thereby contributing to the overall health of ecosystem. We have documented Fowlea schnurrenbergeri in the urban center of Tehsil Zafarwal and Dariyapur village, within Narowal district, Punjab. Previously, Sindh-Thatta represented the southeastern most known locality for this species in Pakistan. This study presents new insights into the distribution range of this less-frequently observed species.

Journal of Bioresource Management

Cholestasis is characterized by the obstruction of bile flow from hepatocytes to the intestine. It results in accumulation of bile acids in the liver, which cause oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. Till now, the treatment options against cholestasis are limited. Therefore, there is an utmost requirement to develop and evaluate the drugs with potential anti-cholestatic effects. In the current study, the drug-induced cholestasis mouse models were generated via oral administration of α-naphthylisothiocyanate (ANIT). The mice were placed into three groups of six animals each. Group I was the control group and was given saline. The cholestasis model Group …

Journal of Bioresource Management

The range grazing livestock (cattles and goats) are afflicted by a significant skin/hide issue known as warble fly larval infestation, which is caused by the larvae of Hypoderma lineatum and Hypoderma bovis species which resulted in substantial economic losses to the leather industries. The life cycle of hypodermosis is complex, involving both ecto- and endoparasitic stages. Female warble flies deposit their eggs in rows of 5-8 on individual hairs of the host, often targeting the legs but also other areas. These eggs are securely attached to the hairs and a single female fly may lay as many as 800 eggs …

Journal of Bioresource Management

The livestock sector plays fundamental role in Pakistan's economy, and a variety of ruminants (cattle and buffaloes) are raised to meet the rising demand for milk, meat, and hide goods. Ticks are the most common vectors for the transmission of tick-borne disease and several pathogens to animals and people. Ticks are widespread in Pakistan due to the country's favorable subtropical climate, and they parasitize large and small ruminants, causing infestation and mortality, as well as economic losses to herdsmen. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the tick’s epidemiology in large animals in the selected Southern regions of Pakistan, during the …

Journal of Bioresource Management

The global livestock sector is expanding at a faster rate than any other agricultural sub-sector. It employs approximately 1.3 billion people and accounts for approximately 40 % of global agricultural output. This industry is one of the most damaging sectors to the world's increasingly scarce water resources, contributing to water pollution from animal wastes, hormones, antibiotics, chemicals from tanneries, pesticides, and fertilizers used to spray feed crop. Climate change harms livestock productivity by changing ecosystem services i.e. water availability, forage quality and quantity, diseases outbreak, and animals stress due to heat shock and reduction of livestock diversity and breeds.
