Sabotage By Cabotage: The Jones Act’S Attack On U.S. Energy, Kyle Mason
The Journal of Business, Entrepreneurship & the Law
This article will explore the ramifications that the Jones Act has on those other crucial areas of the U.S. economy, specifically looking at the U.S. energy market and analyzing how the Jones Act’s interplay with the domestic energy transportation market has been affected. Because of the substantial burden the Jones Act places on the shipping of natural resources, the U.S. energy market has been hindered, as this law continues to adversely impact both U.S. consumers and energy industry development in general. Given the U.S.’s renewed interest in development of an independent energy market, it is time to revise or repeal …

How Oil And Gas Companies Can Help Meet The Global Goals On Energy And Climate Change, Lisa E. Sachs, Nicolas Maennling, Perrine Toledano
Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment Staff Publications
The sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement lay out a global consensus on the need to curb human-induced climate change and to achieve sustainable development. These concepts are linked. The urgency of addressing climate change is critical for global efforts to reduce poverty and advance sustainable development, but also climate-change mitigation must be pursued in a manner consistent with ending poverty, promoting economic development, respecting human rights, and ensuring social inclusion. CCSI and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) have published a briefing note summarizing the ways in which international oil and gas companies can help expand …

Life Cycle Analysis And Transportation Energy, Alexandra B. Klass, Andrew Heiring
Life Cycle Analysis And Transportation Energy, Alexandra B. Klass, Andrew Heiring
Brooklyn Law Review
As government actors and the private sector attempt to decarbonize the economy, the role of life cycle analysis (also know as life cycle assessment or LCA) has become increasingly important. In this essay, we explore the use of life cycle analysis in the transportation sector to assess its influence in federal and state policy efforts to move to a low-carbon energy future. We first define life cycle analysis and explain its use in evaluating the environmental impacts of all stages of a product from production, to use, to disposal. We then review the use of life cycle analysis in considering …

Environmental Assessments (CO)
The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) describes the physical, biological, social, and economic resources that would be potentially affected by leasing of the Iron Point and Elk Creek Coal Lease tracts as well as issuing an exploration license for an area within and surrounding the Iron Point Coal Lease Tract. The federal decisions to be made involve the approval or disapproval of coal leasing (the Iron Point and Elk Creek tracts) and of an exploration license. Some of the key issues for these proposed actions include: the potential effects of transporting over 19 million tons of coal per year from …
