Arizona's Inferior Courts, Harold H. Bruff Jan 1973

Arizona's Inferior Courts, Harold H. Bruff

Publications

For many citizens Arizona's inferior courts provide their primary, perhaps only, contact with the state's justice system. This Article--based in large part upon a thorough empirical and personal study of these lower courts--discusses the role that the courts play, the procedures that they observe, the qualifications of the personnel they employ, and the sufficiency of the justice they render. These findings are then evaluated, and recommendations for change are made.

The Concurrent State And Local Regulation Of Marijuana: The Validity Of The Ann Arbor Marijuana Ordinance, Michigan Law Review Dec 1972

The Concurrent State And Local Regulation Of Marijuana: The Validity Of The Ann Arbor Marijuana Ordinance, Michigan Law Review

Michigan Law Review

The City Council of Ann Arbor, Michigan, has recently amended the City's "marijuana ordinance" so that it prohibits the possession, control, use, giving away, or sale of marijuana, and specifies a five dollar fine as punishment for violations of the ordinance. The State of Michigan has also legislated to prohibit marijuana-related activities, specifying a number of different offenses with penalties ranging as high as four years in prison, or a 2,000 dollar fine, or both. By enacting the ordinance, the City government has minimized the criminal sanctions for an activity it has found essentially benign, pursuant to certain local purposes. …

Teague-Cranston Act Of 1972, United States Congress Oct 1972

Teague-Cranston Act Of 1972, United States Congress

Establishment of James H. Quillen College of Medicine

United States Public Law 92-541, commonly known as the Teague-Cranston Act, called for the creation of five new medical schools in five states to meet the needs of medically under served areas of the country. The act, as passed, required that the new schools be "located in proximity to, and operated in conjunction with, Veterans' Administration medical facilities." This worked in ETSU's favor as the university is located adjacent to the Mountain Home VA Hospital. Signed into law by President Richard Nixon, this would eventually lead to the establishment of the Quillen College of Medicine.
