The Geopolitical Implications Of The United States Of America's Withdrawal From The Paris Agreement, Christopher Mahoney
The Geopolitical Implications Of The United States Of America's Withdrawal From The Paris Agreement, Christopher Mahoney
Cardozo International & Comparative Law Review
The Trump Administration's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement has significant geopolitical implications, as it creates a leadership vacuum that China is poised to fill, potentially reshaping the global transition to renewable energy. While the U.S. federal government steps back from international climate efforts, non-federal actors like states and cities continue to advance climate initiatives. The withdrawal underscores the importance of domestic innovation in clean energy to counterbalance China's growing influence.

Legal departments today face multiple daunting challenges—including rising volumes and complexity of legal work and pressure to reduce costs. To manage these challenges, more organizations are establishing legal operations teams. Understanding what legal operations does—and how—can help legal de-partments to efficiently deliver measurable business results and their counsel tobetter serve their clients. What Does Legal Operations Do? Five Strategic Activities Analysis of legal operations frameworks—as defined by the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium and the Association of Corporate Counsel—in this study indicates that the best legal operations teams excel at five strategic activities: (1) vendor, (2) risk, (3) knowledge, (4) finance/budgeting, and …

Supreme Verbosity: The Roberts Court's Expanding Legacy
Supreme Verbosity: The Roberts Court's Expanding Legacy
Marquette Law Review
The link between courts and the public is the written word. With rare exceptions, it is through judicial opinions that courts communicate with litigants, lawyers, other courts, and the community. Whatever the court’s statutory and constitutional status, the written word, in the end, is the source and the measure of the court’s authority.
It is therefore not enough that a decision be correct—it must also be fair and reasonable and readily understood. The burden of the judicial opinion is to explain and to persuade and to satisfy the world that the decision is principled and sound. What the court says, …

Cooperation And Turnover In Law Faculties: A Game-Theoretic Model And An Empirical Study
Cooperation And Turnover In Law Faculties: A Game-Theoretic Model And An Empirical Study
Marquette Law Review
A standard account of group cooperation would predict that group stability would bring about greater cooperation because repeat-play games would allow for sanctions and rewards. In an academic unit such as a department or a law faculty, one might thus expect that faculty stability would bring about greater cooperation. However, academic units are not like most other groups. Tenured professors face only limited sanctions for failing to cooperate, for engaging in unproductive conflict, or for shirking. This article argues counter-intuitively that within limits, some level of faculty turnover may enhance cooperation. Certainly, excessive and persistent loss of faculty is demoralizing, …

Strengthening The Legal Practice The Heart Way, Tan K. B. Eugene
Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law
In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan opined that even as the legal profession strives to remain relevant, it must resolve to be steadfast and true to its calling. The report of the Committee for the Professional Training Lawyers recently released urged all those seeking to read law and to practise law “[to] be frank in asking themselves why they are attracted to the profession”. Associate Prof Tan noted that with the Government accepting in principle the committee’s recommendations, the pathway to be a full-fledged lawyer is going to be more demanding and longer.
