Scholarship And Teaching After 175 Years, Gordon A. Christenson
Scholarship And Teaching After 175 Years, Gordon A. Christenson
Faculty Articles and Other Publications
A quarter century ago, I presided at the 150th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Cincinnati Law School. Newly appointed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor came to dedicate the radically refurbished Taft Hall in the spring of 1983 and to say good things about our long history. This year we begin to celebrate the College's 175th anniversary. For its dedicatory issue, the editor-in-chief of the Law Review, Matthew Singer, invited me to write an introduction as well as to reflect on those twenty-five years and the challenges and opportunities I see ahead for us. Especially as an emeritus dean and …

This Essay examines the evolution, demise and focus of welfare law courses in law school. It examines the content of these courses in an attempt to understand why these courses are not as popular as they once had been. Finally, it looks at the goals of welfare policy and what welfare law courses should teach.

A Tyrannosaurus-Rex Aptly Named 'Sue': Using A Disputed Dinosaur To Teach Contract Defenses, Miriam A. Cherry

This piece focuses on the discovery of a T-Rex skeleton, and the contract formed between the private fossil collectors and the Native American rancher who ostensibly owned the land where the fossil was situated. Although the fossil was eventually sold at auction for over eight million dollars, the fossil collectors paid the rancher only $5,000 for its excavation. In addition to the rancher, the Sioux tribe and the Department of Justice also became involved in the case.
As described in my work, the law school Socratic method has come under attack in recent years. In response to such criticisms, the …

Brent and Sandra Cotter have decided to make permanent, or at least long-term, their move back to their native Saskatchewan. After two years on leave from Dal Law School, the former Associate Dean, Dal Legal Aid Director and long-time Chair of the Admissions Committee has resigned, to continue to serve as Deputy Attorney General of Saskatchewan, a post he has held for the last two years.
Dean Christie Looks Back, Innis Christie
Dean Christie Looks Back, Innis Christie

My last six year, as dean of Dalhousie Law School, have been wonderful ones for me. They have at times been draining and occasionally exhilarating, always demanding, sometimes disappointing but often quite satisfying. Certainly, through those six years I have never doubted that the faculty, staff, students and alumni of Dalhousie Law School have a great law school.
