The National Jurist has named Indiana University Maurer School of Law alumna Kellye Y. Testy ’91 the most influential person in legal education, placing her at the top of its annual list of the 25 most influential leaders in the field.

The ranking is based on a survey of law school deans nationwide. This article recounts the life of international law through the story of a single individual. This is the narrative of biographical international law. The subject — equally protagonist and antagonist — of this article is Fritz Haber, a German-Jewish scientist born in 1868. Devoted to the Kaiser, Haber was declared a war criminal by the Allies following World War I for having been ‘the father’ of chemical warfare. Haber argued that chemical weapons were more humane than conventional weapons. While under this shadow, Haber also won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1920 for his pioneering work with ammonia …

Over the holiday break we lost a distinguished friend and alumnus with the passing of Ken Nunn ’67. He was 85.

Anyone who’s ever spent time in Indiana has likely seen or heard Nunn. His appearances in television commercials, on highway billboards, and on radio spots made him one of the most recognizable figures in the Hoosier State. And on days when the weather was just right, it was almost an Indiana University rite of passage to spot him—gray hair, sparkling smile—rolling down Kirkwood Avenue in a convertible.

The Maurer School of Law is mourning the passing of its graduate Robert H. McKinney, a visionary attorney, businessman, civic leader, and philanthropist, who died over the weekend at his home in Michigan. He was 98.

McKinney enrolled at the IU School of Law in Indianapolis after his World War II duties, but was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. McKinney transferred to IU’s law school in Bloomington, where he graduated in 1952.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced today (Sept. 10) six new members—including an associate professor from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law—to fill vacancies on its Investor Advisory Committee.

Prof. Alvin Velazquez, who joined the Indiana Law faculty this summer, is one of only two members of academia newly appointed to the committee. The committee advises the SEC on regulatory priorities and initiatives to protect investors and promote the integrity of the U.S. securities markets.

Hudson, a 3L from Chicago, was presented the award today (Aug. 16) as part of the concluding events of this year’s 1L Orientation.

The posts begin with Francis Lieber’s 1939 introduction of the concepts, then describes Samual Williston’s 1920 account of the distinction in the first edition of Williston on Contracts, and concludes with Arthur Linton Corbin’s 1951 reconceptualization in the first edition of Corbin on Contracts.
