A Multidimensional Test Of The Attributional Reformulation Of Learned Helplessness, Kenneth Anderson, Richard Anderson, Donovan Fleming, Edward Kinghorn

In 1978, the original learned helplessness model was critiqued and reformulated by Abramson, Seligman, and Teasdale. Using attributional theory, the reformulation postulated that causal attributions mediate the effects of helplessness according to three dimensions: internal-external, global-specific, and stable-unstable. The present study was a multidimensional test of the reformulation. Ninety-six subjects were administered identical pretreatments of unsolvable puzzles, and given different reasons for their failure. A later test of solvable anagrams measured cognitive and motivational deficits of helplessness from the pretreatment. Global subjects solved fewer problems than specific subjects. Subjects who were both global and stable solved fewer problems in the …

Applying Restitution To Remedy A Discriminatory Denial Of Partnership, Candace Kovacic-Fleischer
Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
This article suggests that a plaintiff can bring a state cause of action in restitution, liability in unjust enrichment, as an alternative to a federal cause of action in Title VII if the plaintiff was discriminatorily denied partnership by a firm that paid her a salary, but billed her time by the hour to clients. If the firm earned more than it paid in salary and overhead to the plaintiff, that amount would be defendant’s gain, one of the elements of an action in restitution, and the amount to be disgorged should plaintiff prove the other two elements, that the …

Legal Aspects Of Prison Riots, Ira Robbins
Legal Aspects Of Prison Riots, Ira Robbins
Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
Introduction: Riots are a recurrent phenomenon in American prisons. In the 1950s and the early 1970s, major riots erupted in prisons across the country, and many have occurred in the past several years.' Riots will continue to occur as long as the dominant function of prisons is the custodial confinement of inmates. As one commentator explains, "The way to make a strong bomb is to build a strong perimeter and generate pressure inside. Similarly, riots occur where ... pressures and demands are generated in the presence of strong custodial confinement." When such a bomb detonates and a prison riot erupts, …

Scholarly Articles in Law Reviews & Journals
Dramatic motion pictures' are prime examples of what copyright law terms "derivative works' because they are almost invariably based upon one or more prior works. Derivative works are so-called because they borrow from original works whether or not those works are in the same media. The universe of derivative works is broad. It encompasses everything from stuffed toys representing cartoon characters to translations of serious-minded literature.
