Importation of a food product into San Marino before the entry into force of Regulation (EC) No 258/97 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 1997 concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients is not a relevant factor for assessing whether that product meets the requirement relating to human consumption to a significant degree within the European Community within the meaning of Article 1(2) of that regulation.

Pendientes del texto definitivo que, en su día, aprobarán Parlamento y Consejo, podemos adelantar que parece que probablemente poco o nada cambiará por lo que se refiere al hecho de que el etiquetado alimentario continuará siendo el elemento central de la futura normativa, mientras que la regulación de la publicidad alimentaria será tratada de forma secundaria . La interpretación del artículo 86 de la Directiva 2001/83/CE en el sentido de que el criterio crucial para separar la publicidad de la simple información radica en el propósito perseguido, nos parece acertada: «si se quiere fomentar ‘la prescripción, la dispensación, la venta o el consumo’ de fármacos, habrá publicidad según la Directiva [2001/83/CE]; por el contrario, si se transmite un dato informativo ‘puro’, sin afán promocional, quedará exento de las reglas comunitarias sobre publicidad de medicamentos». This essay offers a review (4000 words) of "NGO Accountability: Politics, Principles and Innovations," Lisa Jordan and Peter van Tuijl, eds. (London: Earthscan 2006). International and transnational NGOs have been under criticism for alleged lack of accountability since they emerged into prominence in the 1990s. In recent years, the debate over NGOs has shifted from legitimacy and "representativeness" to accountability in the narrower senses of internal governance, fiduciary responsibility, relationships with national governmental authorities, and similar issues. The volume under review seeks to cover both aspects of the debate, with emphasis on the latter, narrower issues. The review essay argues …

To address concerns related to preventing staff sexual misconduct in custodial situations, the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) designed a project to provide training and technical assistance to prevent sexual violence in custodial situations. One component of the project, through a cooperative agreement between the American University Washington College of Law (WCL) and NIC, was to address staff involvement in sexual abuse of persons in custodial settings. The result was the preparation, by the NIC/WCL, of this report addressing human resources concerns related to preventing staff sexual misconduct in custodial situations. INTRODUCTION: In 1999, The American University, Washington College of Law (WCL) entered into a cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) to provide training to high level correctional decision makers on addressing and investigating staff sexual misconduct.
