Article 51: Limits On Self-Defense?, Thomas K. Plofchan Jr.
Michigan Journal of International Law
This article's two-pronged analysis has three distinct parts. Part I lays out the controversy of Article 51 interpretation as applied to the recent Gulf Crisis. Significant Developments In The Immigration Laws Of The United States 1983-1984, Margaret O'B. Scott
Significant Developments In The Immigration Laws Of The United States 1983-1984, Margaret O'B. Scott
San Diego Law Review
This Synopsis outlines significant developments in immigration law from July 1983 through December 1984. The Supreme Court was very active in the area of immigration law during this period. In particular, the Court addressed important issues of asylum, suspension of deportation, and fourth amendment seizures. The lower courts focused on similar fundamental immigration issues that are of mounting concern in the United States. Failure to pass the Simpson-Mazzoli bill reflected congressional discord in the area of immigration reform.

San Diego Law Review

The author examines the recent decision in Jean v. Nelson and analyzes how the court could have reached a more just result. The author concludes that the traditional …

Relations Between The Maritimes And The Supreme Court Of Canada: The Patterns Of The Early Years, James G. Snell
Dalhousie Law Journal
When establishment of a supreme court for the young Canadian Confederation was first mooted after 1867, reaction in the Maritimes was strikingly positive. The Halifax Morning Chronicle, for example, which by no means was yet reconciled to the new British North American union and which saw the court quite accurately as "securing and centralizing the judicial authority in Canada," nevertheless conceded the indispensability of such an institution: If this Confederation continues to exist of course such a court will be a necessity. There must be a central and paramount authority and other things being favourable we would support the bill …
