This report evaluates the prescriptive life safety requirements for levels one (1) through four (4) of the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Phoenix. In addition, this report discusses two fire scenarios that evaluate the tenability during egress the in pre-function area on level two (2) and in the main ballroom on level three (3) of the hotel.
The prescriptive standards/codes used to evaluate the hotel are the International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC), and applicable standards from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The fire protection and life safety systems for Building X were evaluated for compliance in accordance with applicable nuclear power plant non-power block regulatory requirements, NEIL, INPO, IBC, and NFPA design requirements, codes, and standards. Building X is a one-story building with two internal balconies with 10 occupants per balcony, which is made of non-combustible materials that also has a partial basement with concrete walls (is normally unoccupied), which houses potable water pumps and piping for the facility. This report describes the analysis of the Orange Grove Library in Gulfport, Mississippi, using prescriptive and performance-based techniques to evaluate fire and life safety. The prescriptive analysis is broken down into four components: alarm, egress, structural and suppression. Prescriptive codes are written by consensus, such that adhering to these codes will produce a reasonable balance between cost, function and safety. The performance-based design analysis uses analytical tools to predict how this particular building would perform under specific fire conditions, chosen based on the actual building in place. This project developed the traditional prescriptive-based design analysis of the fire protection features of an existing office high rise building in the city of Sao Paulo, in Brazil. The analysis was then complemented by performance-based analysis of the building. This report contains a prescriptive design analysis and a performance based design analysis for a newly constructed United States Air Force 3-Bay Aircraft General Maintenance Hangar and support spaces.
The prescriptive design analysis reviews the code requirements for fire suppression, fire alarm, life safety, and structural fire protection. Additionally, the hydraulic demands of the fire suppression system, and the voltage drop and power supply requirements of the fire alarm systems were calculated. The results of the analysis portray a compliant prescriptive design of the fire protection systems.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the number of runway incursions are rising. The configuration of runways and taxiways at airports has been identified by the FAA as possibly being related to the number of incursions. This poster presents the research on the main patterns of spatial distribution and temporal variability of precipitation and temperature in the Missouri River Basin (MRB). MRB has 117 million acres in cropland, produces of 46%, 22%, and 34% US's wheat, corn, and cattle, respectively. Also, MRB is known for intense weather and extreme climate variability. The approach is to identify different patterns of spatial distribution and temporal variability of precipitation and temperature through the use of a Principal Component Analysis. Surface plasmon polaritons are coherent electron oscillations that propagate along an interface between a Drude metal and a dielectric medium. The excitation of polaritons is highly dependent on the dielectric properties of the metal, the thickness of the metal, and the optical properties of the dielectric material. First, plasmonic activity is assessed for several thicknesses of silver and nickel chromium under He-Ne incidence. Photoelectrochemical water splitting has been identified as a promising route for achieving sustainable energy future. However, semiconductor materials with the appropriate optical, electrical and electrochemical properties have yet to be discovered. In search of an appropriate semiconductor to fill this gap, GaSbP, a semiconductor never tested for PEC performance is proposed here and investigated. Density functional theory (DFT+U) techniques were utilized to predict band gap and band edge energetics for GaSbP alloys with low amount of antimony. Bull Outdoor Products, Incorporated, a barbeque grill and outdoor kitchen manufacturer, sponsored this project with the intent of improving the temperature uniformity across the surface of their barbecue grills. For this project, the Cal Poly team of mechanical engineering students, Monty Dodge Jr. and Samuel Melo, used the Brahma grill head model with setups for both natural gas and propane. This paper introduces two microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) based working data logger prototypes and the cloud based data analysis system that were trademarked and patented as Pak-TrackTM-I and Pak-TrackTM-II. The Pak-TrackTM-I is designed to wirelessly record and report information in real time about individually packaged products during transit. The system allows the user to immediately view the data with a Global Positioning System (GPS) location via a secured website or Android tablet or smart phone. The Antarctic Geological Drilling Program (ANDRILL) AND-2A drill hole was drilled, cored and logged in southern McMurdo Sound (SMS) in the western Ross Sea, Antarctica during the austral summer of 2007. A single near-offset, over-sea ice vertical seismic profile (VSP) was collected in the AND-2A drill hole as a part of the logging program. The source for VSP data collection was a Generator Injector (GI) air-gun which was suspended by a cable through a hole made in the sea ice. In order for celestial navigation observing satellites to provide accurate positioning estimates, precise ephemerides of the observed satellites are necessary. This work analyzed a method to correct for satellite ephemeris to be used in celestial navigation applications. This correction is the measured angle differences between the expected location of the satellite, which is given by propagating publicly available Two-Line Elements (TLE), and their observed angles from a precisely known reference site. Therefore, the angle difference can be attributed completely to satellite ephemeris error assuming instrument error was accounted for. Humanitarian projects in foreign countries are funded by the U.S. government to foster peace, prosperity, and the spread of democratic ideals around the globe. The type and scope of projects are restricted by current doctrine and funding regulations. Specifically in 2014, USAF personnel supported medical and educational construction projects/programs in the country of Belize. Anomaly detection in hyper-spectral imagery is a relatively recent and important research area. The shear amount of data available in a many hyper-spectral images makes the utilization of multivariate statistical methods and artificial neural networks ideal for this analysis. Using HYDICE sensor hyper-spectral images, we examine a variety of preprocessing techniques within a framework that allows for changing parameter settings and varying the methodological order of operations in order to enhance detection of anomalies within image data.
