In this report, we are aiming to find the best construction alternative to provide housing to the homeless community of Multnomah County in Oregon. The goal is to identify the most beneficial construction process through an economic analysis. In conjunction with existing projects such as “Safe Rest Villages” that are working on offering services and solutions, the plan is to reduce the county’s houseless population by 50% over a time period of 10 years. The analysis includes gathering data about the community, but also calculating the costs and benefits of three alternatives - 3D Printed houses, tiny homes, and prefabricated …

Solar energy has been demonstrated to be the most productive and compelling among sustainable power hotspots for home and business use. California has made a concerted effort to boost the integration of renewables into the grid. In 2020, a "solar mandate" went into effect, and in 2022, the California Energy Commission released the draft language for the 2022 building standards. The use of photovoltaic (PV) systems supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – particularly SDG 13 in direct impact – through preserving the environment, reducing the levels of greenhouse gasses (GHGs), and accordingly reducing global warming. Therefore, the …

Simulation, Optimization, And Economic Assessment Of Pelamis Wave Energy Converter, Hana Ghaneei, Mohammadreza Mahmoudi
Faculty Articles, Papers, and Other Scholarship
Wave energy and power is accessible on almost any body of water. One of the most widely known floating structures to generate renewable energy from the seas and the ocean is wave energy converter Pelamis. In this study, an attempt was made to simulate the dynamic behaviour of Pelamis P2 in the software AQWA under the influence of a nonlinear second-order Stokes wave. Pelamis P2 was simulated in different marine conditions including different water depths, wave heights, periods, and angles to assess its optimal operation. With the results in mind, it can be argued that with an increase in water …

The case study presented will show how to capture and document the current processes within the loading facility, model the relationships between resources and constraints, find appropriate probability distributions to represent the service data, define the …
The Traveling Salesman Problem: An Analysis And Comparison Of Metaheuristics And Algorithms, Mason Helmick
The Traveling Salesman Problem: An Analysis And Comparison Of Metaheuristics And Algorithms, Mason Helmick
Senior Honors Theses
One of the most investigated topics in operations research is the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and the algorithms that can be used to solve it. Despite its relatively simple formulation, its computational difficulty keeps it and potential solution methods at the forefront of current research. This paper defines and analyzes numerous proposed solutions to the TSP in order to facilitate understanding of the problem. Additionally, the efficiencies of different heuristics are studied and compared to the aforementioned algorithms’ accuracy, as a quick algorithm is often formulated at the expense of an exact solution.

The Music Bluetooth Controller: An Intersection Between Technology And Music, Lydia Wu
Senior Honors Theses
The modern musician faces a new challenge: how can technology be used to enhance a performance? This thesis documents the development of a Bluetooth remote controller that will aid today’s performing musicians by interacting with a digital display (e.g., an iPad) to flip musical score pages remotely. At its core, while mimicking a Bluetooth pedal (the current industry standard), this device attaches to the musician’s hand. In its pilot stages, the device has been referred to “MBC” (Music Bluetooth Controller).

Statistical Monitoring The Quality Of Healthcare Services, Yanqing Kuang
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In today’s healthcare industry, quality of care is a growing focus in the delivery of healthcare. To improve the quality of care in healthcare delivery, many studies focus on the longterm operational decision making to meet the expectations of healthcare providers and users, such as medical resource allocation, bed planning, staff scheduling, etc. These problems are typically parts of long-term operational decision making, however, time is essential in healthcare system. To ensure the adherence to a high quality of care and detect deterioration in real time, the quality of service should be measured over days or hours instead of just …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The problem of algebraic loop is common in Simulink simulation. The existence of algebraic loop will reduce the speed and accuracy of simulation, and even lead to errors in simulation results. Taking the simulation of synchronous generator as an example, the problem of algebraic loop and its elimination method in Simulink simulation are discussed. Starting from the analysis of the basic equations of synchronous generator, the cause of algebraic loop in simulation is discussed, the influence of the algebraic loop on the system simulation is pointed out, using disassembly method and transformation method, focusing on eliminating the algebraic loop, …

Research On 3d Path Planning Algorithm Based On Fast Rrt Algorithm, Zhaoqiang Li, Shiyu Zhang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: RRT (rapidly exploring random tree) algorithm is a sampling-based path planning algorithm, which can search a path in high-dimensional environment. The traditional RRT algorithm has the problems of low node utilization and large amount of calculation. To solve these problems, the fast RRT* (Quick RRT*) algorithm is improved by optimizing the strategy of reselection of parent node and pruning range, improving the sampling method and introducing adaptive step size, which makes the algorithm time-consuming and path length shorter. At the same time, the node connection screening strategy is added to eliminate the excessive turning angle in the path. …

Research On Active Learning Method And Application Based On Covariance Matrix, Bowen Zhou, Weili Xiong
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Since the data collected from industrial processes often contain a large number of unlabeled samples, while the number of labeled samples is small and the cost of manual labeling is high, an active learning method based on covariance matrix is proposed. This method uses labeled samples to establish a Gaussian process regression model, and constructs the covariance matrix between the unlabeled samples, using the value of the determinant of the covariance matrix as an evaluation indicator. While selecting informative unlabeled samples, the similarity between samples is measured to avoid redundant addition of samples, which finally improves model prediction accuracy …

The two multiplier coefficients are adaptively updated to coordinate the algorithm's global search and local development capabilities. The Gaussian mutation strategy is used to re-update the atomic position and …

Abstract: The heterogeneous-fleet electric vehicle routing problem with partial linear recharging is studied for realistic logistics distribution scenarios using multiple electric vehicle fleets with different transport capacities, driving ranges and acquisition costs. A path-based mixed integer linear model is proposed. The model enumerates the paths visited by all vehicle types between any non-charging nodes, eliminates the infeasible paths through capacity constraints and time window constraints, and eliminates the dominated paths by the dominance criterion. Compared with the traditional charging station replica-based model, this model eliminates the need to set the number of charging station replicas. The results show that the …
