A Shared Memory Based Parallel Hierarchical Interest Matching Algorithm, Wenjie Tang, Junwei Cheng, Yiping Yao, Zhu Feng
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Interest matching plays an important role in distributed simulation. However, because of huge number of simulation entities and frequent change of regions, interest matching consumes tremendous computation in large scale simulations. The ubiquity of multicore urges us to improve the performance of interest matching by parallelization. A shared memory based parallel hierarchical interest matching algorithm is propose to solve the problem. It maps subscribe regions into a full binary tree, and compares update regions with the tree in parallel. Due to the associative relationship between adjacent nodes, unnecessary comparisons can be eliminated. The experimental results demonstrate that the …

Time-Delay Estimation For Mimo Delay Systems With Unknown Structures, Xuguang Wang, Mengjie Feng, Su Jie, Jiale Quan
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In the unknown-structure delay system modeling, time-delays lead to a mismatch between the system inputs and outputs on the timeline and cause low system modeling accuracy. A time-delay estimation method is proposed for the unknown-structure MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) delay systems. A general mathematical description is given from the algebraic point of view, the delay correlation function is defined, and a quantitative constraint between system input-output and time-delay is constructed. A greedy time-delay search algorithm is introduced based on the delay correlation function. Simulation experiments and real data experiments show the availability of the proposed method.

The Discrete-Event Modeling Of Administrative Claims (Demac) System: Dynamically Modeling The U.S. Healthcare Delivery System With Medicare Claims Data To Improve End-Of-Life Care, Rachael Chacko
Dartmouth College Undergraduate Theses
The shift of the U.S. healthcare delivery system from the treatment of acute conditions to chronic diseases requires a new method of healthcare system analysis to properly assess end- of-life (EOL) quality throughout the country. In this paper, we propose the Discrete-Event Modeling of Administrative Claims (DEMAC) system, which relies on a hetero-functional graph theory and discrete event-driven framework to dynamically model EOL care on multiple levels. The heat map visualizations produced by the DEMAC system enable the elucidation of not only patient-specific EOL care but also broader treatment patterns among providers and hospitals. As a whole, the DEMAC system …

Statistically Defensible Wind Tunnel Models, Timothy A. Roche
Theses and Dissertations
Wind tunnels are used to test scale-model air frames in order to collect aerodynamic data. The Subsonic Aerodynamic Research Laboratory (SARL) Wind Tunnel is a low speed wind tunnel located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The SARL Wind Tunnel team approached AFIT for assistance in creating statistically defensible models for the conditions inside the wind tunnel. During a wind tunnel test, pressure sensors cannot be placed at the test model. Instead, pressure is measured by a pitot probe permanently mounted in the corner of the test chamber. The pressure at the model location is predicted from the measurements taken by …

Solving The Winner Determination Problem For Online B2b Transportation Matching Platforms, Hoong Chuin Lau, Baoxiang Li
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
We consider the problem of matching multiple shippers and transporters participating in an online B2B last-mile logistics platform in an emerging market. Each shipper places a bid that is made up of multiple jobs, where each job comprises key information like the weight, volume, pickup and delivery locations, and time windows. Each transporter specifies its vehicle capacity, available time periods, and a cost structure. We formulate the mathematical model and provide a Branch-and-Cut approach to solve small-scale problem instances exactly and larger scale instances heuristically using an Adaptive Large Neighbourhood Search approach. To increase the win percentage of both shippers …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Subway system is the main mode of transportation for city dwellers and is a quite signif-icant backbone to a city's operations. One of the challenges of subway network operation is the scheduling of the first trains each morning and its impact on transfers. To deal with this challenge, some cities (e.g. Beijing) use bus 'bridging' services, temporarily substitut -ing segments of the subway network. The present paper optimally identifies when to start each train and bus bridging service in an intermodal transit network. Starting from a mixed integer nonlinear programming model for the first train timetabling problem, we linearize and …

Improving Multi-Threaded Qos In Clouds, Weiwei Jia
Dissertations
Multi-threading and resource sharing are pervasive and critical in clouds and data-centers. In order to ease management, save energy and improve resource utilization, multi-threaded applications from different tenants are often encapsulated in virtual machines (VMs) and consolidated on to the same servers. Unfortunately, despite much effort, it is still extremely challenging to maintain high quality of service (QoS) for multi-threaded applications of different tenants in clouds, and these applications often suffer severe performance degradation, poor scalability, unfair resource allocation, and so on.
The dissertation identifies the causes of the QoS problems and improves the QoS of multi-threaded execution with three …

Improving Logistics Efficiency Through Collaborative Truck Routing, Patrick Dougherty
Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The logistics industry is among the world’s largest and most essential. Specifically, trucking is a massive component of the modern logistics system. In 2012, truck transportation carried 68% of all freight tonnage in the U.S. However, trucking currently faces significant problems with efficiency and sustainability. Of all miles driven by trucks yearly in the U.S., 25% are driven with empty loads and 36% are driven with underutilized loads. In addition to this economic inefficiency, the industry faces social and environmental challenges. Driver turnover rates are near 100%, and trucking accounts for a significant level of greenhouse gas emissions. One potential …
