Mad Jack Alpine Touring Model Design, Austin Gasbarra, Gillian Stargensky, Madeleine Mccool, Brannon Smudz

Mechanical Engineering

Skiing is a sport enjoyed by millions of people every year, yet ski boots are very uncomfortable and cost- prohibitive, resulting in a low conversion rate of first-time skiers to lifetime skiers. Additionally, Alpine Touring (AT) is seeing a surge in popularity as ski resorts become more expensive, but few companies are developing affordable products in this realm. Mad Jack Snow Sports has developed a product that they believe addresses some of the main issues associated with skiing, but they want to develop their product line further. The problem statement and scope state that the purpose of this project is …

Differential Mobility Classifiers In The Non-Ideal Assembly, Thamir Alsharifi Jan 2019

Differential Mobility Classifiers In The Non-Ideal Assembly, Thamir Alsharifi

Theses and Dissertations

The differential mobility classifier (DMC) is one of the core components in electrical mobility particle sizers for sizing sub-micrometer particles. Designing the DMC requires knowledge of the geometrical and constructional imperfection (or tolerance). Studying the effects of geometrical imperfection on the performance of the DMC is necessary to provide manufacturing tolerance and it helps to predict the performance of geometrically imperfect classifiers, as well as providing a calibration curve for the DMC. This thesis was accomplished via studying the cylindrical classifier and the parallel plate classifier. The numerical model was built using the most recent versions of COMSOL Multiphysics® …

Autojack - Hydraulic Powertrain System, Tyce Vu Jan 2019

Autojack - Hydraulic Powertrain System, Tyce Vu

All Undergraduate Projects

A primary problem for mechanics and automotive enthusiasts is the risk associated with lifting and securing a vehicle with conventional jack stands. Often times, improper jack-stand installation results in the vehicle collapsing unexpectedly, causing injury and/or death. This problem can be minimized through the application of a newly re-designed vehicle lifting system. The conventional method for lifting cars is time consuming and can be unsafe in many circumstances. A better, safer, and more efficient lift design was needed; the AutoJack. The approach of the AutoJack design was entirely focused on the safety of lifting a vehicle. Safety was improved by …

Energy Efficiency Evaluation Of Blower Heater Non-Purge Compressed Air Dryers, Alexandra M. Botts Jan 2019

Energy Efficiency Evaluation Of Blower Heater Non-Purge Compressed Air Dryers, Alexandra M. Botts

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

There are several compressed air dryers available for industrial use including, refrigerant, desiccant, and membrane. This research focuses on twin tower regenerative closed loop desiccant dryers, specifically: blower heater non-purge (BHNP) with and without cooling water pumps, Compressed-air Heater Purge (CHP), Blower Heater Purge (BHP), and Pressure Swing Heaterless (PSH). These styles of dryers are used mainly in industries that require extremely dry air such as, food manufacturing, medical air, or sensitive technology manufacturers. The research was conducted by collecting and analyzing real time current draw data on air compressors and associated dryers at eight different facilities (13 compressor systems) …
