Investigation Of Fundamental Principles Of Rigid Body Impact Mechanics, Khalid Alluhydan Jul 2019

Investigation Of Fundamental Principles Of Rigid Body Impact Mechanics, Khalid Alluhydan

Mechanical Engineering Research Theses and Dissertations

In impact mechanics, the collision between two or more bodies is a common, yet a very challenging problem. Producing analytical solutions that can predict the post-collision motion of the colliding bodies require consistent modeling of the dynamics of the colliding bodies. This dissertation presents a new method for solving the two and multibody impact problems that can be used to predict the post-collision motion of the colliding bodies. Also, we solve the rigid body collision problem of planar kinematic chains with multiple contacts with external surfaces.

In the first part of this dissertation, we study planar collisions of Balls and …

Adapted Trailer Hitching System, Joseph Neil Hearn, Maxwell M. Selna, Maximilian D. Cossalter, Eric B. Ringsrud Jun 2019

Adapted Trailer Hitching System, Joseph Neil Hearn, Maxwell M. Selna, Maximilian D. Cossalter, Eric B. Ringsrud

Mechanical Engineering

This report highlights the entire design process of an adapted trailer hitching system for Taylor Morris: a navy veteran and quadruple amputee. This begins with problem definition through customer and product research. Objectives are generated after the problem is defined and the boundary of the project is set. This outcome of the project focuses on modifications/improvements to the vehicle side of the problem and leaves the trailers untouched. Engineering specifications are developed to constrain the concept design direction, which ultimately dictates the outcome of the final design. The final design is used as a basis to manufacture a structural prototype …

Quantification Of Myocardial Mechanics In Left Ventricles Under Inotropic Stimulation And In Healthy Right Ventricles Using 3d Dense Cmr, Zhan-Qiu Liu Jan 2019

Quantification Of Myocardial Mechanics In Left Ventricles Under Inotropic Stimulation And In Healthy Right Ventricles Using 3d Dense Cmr, Zhan-Qiu Liu

Theses and Dissertations--Mechanical Engineering

Statistical data from clinical studies indicate that the death rate caused by heart disease has decreased due to an increased use of evidence-based medical therapies. This includes the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which is one of the most common non-invasive approaches in evidence-based health care research. In the current work, I present 3D Lagrangian strains and torsion in the left ventricle of healthy and isoproterenol-stimulated rats, which were investigated using Displacement ENcoding with Stimulated Echoes (DENSE) cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. With the implementation of the 12-segment model, a detailed profile of regional cardiac mechanics was reconstructed for …

The Influence Of Size And Progression Of Intra-Cerebral Hematoma On The Lateral Ventricles, Muhammad J. Ashraf Jan 2019

The Influence Of Size And Progression Of Intra-Cerebral Hematoma On The Lateral Ventricles, Muhammad J. Ashraf

Dissertations and Theses

Cerebrovascular diseases like intra cerebral hemorrhage are quite deadly and may disturb functioning of the brain, expanding and resulting in formation of an intra cerebral hematoma(ICH). It is imperative to comprehend how hematoma and its expansion inside the brain endangers human life. One of the influences of an ICH inside brain tissue is on the Lateral Ventricles(LV). When the hemorrhage occurs close enough to the lateral ventricles, filled with cerebrospinal fluid(CSF), it disrupts the balance of fluid in LV. A minor pressure change in LV can negatively influence the production of CSF as well as an increase in intracranial pressure. …

A Computational Study Of Patch Implantation And Mitral Valve Mechanics, Dara Singh Jan 2019

A Computational Study Of Patch Implantation And Mitral Valve Mechanics, Dara Singh

Theses and Dissertations--Mechanical Engineering

Myocardial infarction (i.e., a heart attack) is the most common heart disease in the United States. Mitral valve regurgitation, or the backflow of blood into the atrium from the left ventricle, is one of the complications associated with myocardial infarction. In this dissertation, a validated model of a sheep heart that has suffered myocardial infarction has been employed to study mitral valve regurgitation. The model was rebuilt with the knowledge of geometrical changes captured with MRI technique and is assigned with anisotropic, inhomogeneous, nearly incompressible and highly non-linear material properties. Patch augmentation was performed on its anterior leaflet, using a …
