The United States Gypsum Company's Heath plant, which is located at Heath, Montana, is one of forty-six diversified production facilities for the development and production of gypsum products. The Heath plant is located about twelve miles southeast of Lewistown, Montana, and consists of a mine, a mill and a boardplant. The Heath plant was built in 1925 by the Northwestern Gypsum Company.

The electrolytic zinc department of the Anaconda Reduction Works consists of five divisions, each responsible for one phase in the preparation of electrolytic zinc. These divisions are: (1) The zinc concentrator which produces a high-zinc, low-lead concentrate for further treatment at Anaconda, and a low-zinc, high-lead concentrate which is shipped to East Helena for further treatment. (2) The roasting division wherein the concentrate is roasted to oxides and sulfates. (3) The leaching division which (a) leaches the roasted concentrate to dissolve the zinc, and (b) purifies the leached solution. Various chemical and electrolytic separation methods were investigated in an attempt to separate the inclusions in Armco ingot iron. Residues obtained were X-rayed for identification purposes. The microstructures of this iron were studied with the object of determining the relative sizes, locations, and possible compositions of the inclusions.

The purpose of this investigation was to design and construct a laboratory size electrolytic cell in which to reduce alumina, using the same basic materials that are used in a commercial size cell. The cell was designed to have a capacity of approximately 100 grams of metallic aluminum produced every 8 hours. The cell was constructed so it could be operated continuously.

Magnetic materials can be divided into three major groups; diamagnetic, paramagnetic and ferromagnetic. From a magnetic point of view, the ferromagnetic are the most interesting. Ferromagnetic materials include the elements iron, nickel, cobalt, certain of the alloys of these elements and a group of alloys first studied by Huesler. These latter are ferromagnetic largely because of the presence of manganese in special combination with the other non-ferrous elements.

The Ragged Point oil field is located in Northwest Musselshell County, in the Lake Basin field of central Montana, and on the western border of the Great Plains region. The surface topography is that of a plain marked by erosion and moderate folding. The stratigraphy of central Montana shows periodic marine invasions from the Cordilleran trough, with normal marine limestones interbedded with sandstone sand shales. These sediments are over 12,000 feet thick, with the Cretaceous Eagle and Colorado formations exposed at the surface on the Ragged Point anticline. Undifferentiated Cambrian limestones and shales are the oldest rocks encountered in drilling.

The now increasing importance of tungsten as a metal with desirable properties in high strength and high temperature resisting alloy steels, coupled with the recent discoveries of low-grade tungsten ore deposits in Montana, has spurred a search for suitable and economical methods of treating tungsten ores of the State. This search has been conducted on a variety of tungsten ores and the present work is rather an aspect of the whole tungsten beneficiation problem in Montana.
