Climate-Driven Flood Risk Mapping And Adaptive Strategy Modelling For Coastal Tamil Nadu, Sakthi Kiran Dr Mr Dec 2025

Climate-Driven Flood Risk Mapping And Adaptive Strategy Modelling For Coastal Tamil Nadu, Sakthi Kiran Dr Mr

Theses and Dissertations

Background: Tamil Nadu’s coastal corridor (Cuddalore–Sirkazhi; ~2,740 km²) experiences recurring floods driven by climate change, rapid urban expansion, and inadequate drainage across low-lying deltaic terrain. Existing flood assessments remain largely reactive and rely on static methods that fail to incorporate future climate projections, demographic growth, and evolving urban patterns.

Methods: This research develops a dynamic, climate-resilient flood risk framework integrating (i) long-term hydroclimatic trend analysis (1984–2023), (ii) satellite-based flood hazard mapping using multi-temporal Sentinel-1A and RISAT-1A SAR, (iii) CORDEX REMO2015 (RCP 4.5)–driven HEC-RAS 2D hydrodynamic modelling, (iv) machine-learning-based susceptibility modelling (RF, DT, SVM), and (v) scenario-based evaluation of structural mitigation …

Detecting Electrical Submersible Pump (Esp) Failures And Estimating Run Life Using Artificial Neural Networks, Mostafa Ahmed Sobhy Sep 2025

Detecting Electrical Submersible Pump (Esp) Failures And Estimating Run Life Using Artificial Neural Networks, Mostafa Ahmed Sobhy

Theses and Dissertations

Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) are one of the important artificial lift methods for sustaining production in mature and high-water-cut wells; but may suffer frequent failures due to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, chemical, and operational failures. These failures can yield substantial deferred production and intervention costs. Plenty of ESP installations are fitted with downhole sensors. Yet, it is observed that the current industry practice underutilizes the wealth of available sensor and operational data and lacks standardized, explainable failure-type identification and classification.

In this thesis, a comprehensive Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) framework was introduced for ESPs that simultaneously estimates remaining …

A Geomatic Appraisal On Restoration Of Tank Cascade Systems In Ambuliyar Watershed, Tamilnadu, Nasir N Feb 2025

A Geomatic Appraisal On Restoration Of Tank Cascade Systems In Ambuliyar Watershed, Tamilnadu, Nasir N

Theses and Dissertations

Tanks and earthen embankments used for water harvesting and storage have been a significant part of India's irrigation system since the 2nd and 3rd centuries. In Tamil Nadu, around 39,202 tanks have storage capacities of around 178.94 million cubic feet. However, they have been impacted by natural and anthropogenic threats such as soil erosion, siltation, inadequate rainfall, and drought. This study aims to determine the current storage capacity of tanks, estimate the loss in storage capacity/volume of silt, estimate the rate of siltation and life of tanks, identify soil erosion-prone zones, and map deteriorating parameters along supply channels.

The study …

Optimization Of Vibro-Seismic Parameters For Enhanced Oil Recovery Application, Tarek Abdel Aal Jan 2024

Optimization Of Vibro-Seismic Parameters For Enhanced Oil Recovery Application, Tarek Abdel Aal

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis was conducted in the American University in Cairo by Tarek Ahmed Abdel Fattah Abdel Aal. The thesis is titled ‘Optimization of Vibroseismic Parameters for Enhanced Oil Recovery Application.’ The thesis discusses whether or not the combination of optimized physical vibration parameters with waterflooding would improve porosity, absolute permeability, relative permeability, and recovery when compared with just classical waterflooding. The optimized physical vibration parameters as well as methodology was used from a previous paper that was performed in conjunction with my thesis advisor on similar core samples. The experimentation was performed on five core samples with different porosities and …

Characterization Of The Spatial And Temporal Dynamics Of Floodplain Surface-Water Circulation, Shailesh Cyriel Van Der Steeg Apr 2023

Characterization Of The Spatial And Temporal Dynamics Of Floodplain Surface-Water Circulation, Shailesh Cyriel Van Der Steeg

Theses and Dissertations

Floodplains are spatially complex landscapes with a variety of surface features and landforms. These low-relief, low-gradient landscapes may contain extensive networks of well-defined channels and topographically connected depressions, and in some cases, the channels originate as cuts across levees or banks of the main river, referred to as through-bank channels. Corresponding complex patterns of inundation and flow have been detected through remote sensing and in field observations. The complex floodplain flows in response to the passing of flood waves is, however, poorly quantified. This work aims to increase fundamental understanding of floodplain flows and to highlight controls on floodplain wetting, …

Experimental Study On Co2-Sensitive Polyacrylamide As Potential In-Situ Sealing Agent For Co2 Leakage Pathways In Geological Storage Sites, Iris Laihmen Quan Lopez Aug 2022

Experimental Study On Co2-Sensitive Polyacrylamide As Potential In-Situ Sealing Agent For Co2 Leakage Pathways In Geological Storage Sites, Iris Laihmen Quan Lopez

Theses and Dissertations

As the world pushes for ‘greener’ technologies and carbon neutrality, efforts have focused on creating novel ways to mitigate humankind’s carbon footprint. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) has become a prevalent technique that has proven to be an effective long-term method to safely relocate excess carbon dioxide (CO2) into subsurface formations. However, CCS is a newer technique which requires constant monitoring due to potential leakage pathways present in CO2 storage sites; therefore, a preventive approach to seal leakage pathways is recommended. This dissertation explores the potential of CO2-sensitive polyacrylamide (CO2-SPAM) as a novel …

The Evolution Of The Southeastern North American Margin From Integrated Analyses Of Potential Field Data: Continent-Continent Collision And Rifting, Patrick D. Duff Apr 2020

The Evolution Of The Southeastern North American Margin From Integrated Analyses Of Potential Field Data: Continent-Continent Collision And Rifting, Patrick D. Duff

Theses and Dissertations

The southeastern North American margin (SENAM) is one of the world’s oldest intact passive margins, containing the ancient southern Appalachian Mountains, the South Georgia Rift (SGR), and the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province (CAMP).

Potential field data is used in combination with seismic imaging, borehole data, and surface geology to better constrain the lithospheric configuration created by Appalachian orogenesis and Atlantic rifting. In combination with filtering techniques, maps and 2D potential field forward models, and Euler inverse modeling are used to illuminate the pre-Cretaceous basement including basement faults, shear zones, and granites in the hinterland of the southern Appalachians, and rift …

Structural Evolution Of La Florida And Guavio Anticlines, Fractures, And Petroleum Systems In A Foreland Fold Belt, Eastern Cordillera Foothills, Colombia, Ziyad Albesher Apr 2020

Structural Evolution Of La Florida And Guavio Anticlines, Fractures, And Petroleum Systems In A Foreland Fold Belt, Eastern Cordillera Foothills, Colombia, Ziyad Albesher

Theses and Dissertations

Geological structures and petroleum systems associated with La Florida anticline and the Cusiana fault system in the Llanos foothills and the Guavio anticline and the Guaicaramo fault system in the Medina basin were interpreted based on 3D seismic data from La Florida anticline in the foothills, 2D seismic data in the Medina basin and Guavio anticline, well, and surface geology maps. Unlike previous interpretations of the Guavio anticline and Medina basin area, our interpretation shows that thin-skinned thrusting on the Guaicaramo fault preceded thick-skinned basement thrusting. Late Miocene thin-skinned ramp thrusting was followed by a Pliocene thick-skinned fault-bend fold ramping …

Seismic Attribute Fracture Analysis And Thin And Thick-Skinned Structural Controls On The Evolution Of A Foreland Basin - Parrando And Guavio Anticlines, Eastern Cordillera Foothills, Colombia, Ibraheem Khalil Hafiz Apr 2020

Seismic Attribute Fracture Analysis And Thin And Thick-Skinned Structural Controls On The Evolution Of A Foreland Basin - Parrando And Guavio Anticlines, Eastern Cordillera Foothills, Colombia, Ibraheem Khalil Hafiz

Theses and Dissertations

The Parrando and Guavio anticlines are located in the Llanos foothills on the eastern flank of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. This study presents new 3D horizon maps, seismic and stratigraphic interpretations, and 1D burial models based on a 3D seismic volume, 2D seismic lines, and well logs. The Guavio anticline was formed by overlapping Miocene-Pliocene fault-bend folds and inversion of the Guaicaramo normal fault. Unlike previous models, the basement fold is interpreted as formed by a ramp from pre-Cretaceous basement to a double wedge fault probably preceded by a thin-skinned bedding plane thrust fault. A new 1D burial model …

Cenozoic Tectono-Stratigraphic Evolution And Petroleum System Of The Eastern Cordillera Foothills And Adjacent Basins (Colombia), Essam Saeid Jan 2018

Cenozoic Tectono-Stratigraphic Evolution And Petroleum System Of The Eastern Cordillera Foothills And Adjacent Basins (Colombia), Essam Saeid

Theses and Dissertations

New gravity, magnetic, well and 3D seismic data provides a better understanding of regional structures and tectonic movement affecting the petroleum system and sedimentary history of an important region of oil production in the Foothills of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. To the south the Garzón fault was previously interpreted as a right-lateral strikeslip fault. New seismic, well, and gravity data demonstrate that this fault is also a low-angle (12–17 degrees) Andean fault that thrusts PreCambrian basement 10 to 17 km northwestward over Miocene rocks of the Upper Magdalena Valley (UMV) in a prospective footwall anticline. New geophysical data as …
