A Longitudinal Analysis Of Pathways To Computing Careers: Defining Broadening Participation In Computing (Bpc) Success With A Rearview Lens, Mercy Jaiyeola

Theses and Dissertations

Efforts to increase the participation of groups historically underrepresented in computing studies, and in the computing workforce, are well documented. It is a national effort with funding from a variety of sources being allocated to research in broadening participation in computing (BPC). Many of the BPC efforts are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) but as existing literature shows, the growth in representation of traditionally underrepresented minorities and women is not commensurate to the efforts and resources that have been directed toward this aim.

Instead of attempting to tackle the barriers to increasing representation, this dissertation research tackles the …

Disambiguation Of Large-Scale Educational Network Data For Social Network Analysis, Adam Weaver Dec 2021

Disambiguation Of Large-Scale Educational Network Data For Social Network Analysis, Adam Weaver

Fall Student Research Symposium 2021

Social Network Analysis (SNA) is a research method which quantitatively maps qualitative social interactions between individuals who comprise a ‘network’. Delineating these social networks yields highly valuable data, including SNA measures like centrality, which can be used to measure social influence, connectivity, and more. Further, these networks can also be visualized by graphing individuals as ‘nodes’, and then by drawing ‘edges’ (the lines that connect them) to produce sociograms. With these sociograms, researchers can concurrently conduct visual and statistical analysis of relations between node and network traits of interest. As a result of these capabilities and the growth of social …

Raising The Level Of Environmental Concern Of Senior Students Taking The Electronics Engineering Laws And Ethics Through Climate Change Awareness Study, King Harold A. Recto, Romano Q. Neyra

Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering Faculty Publications

Two general areas that future electronics engineers are honed are competence and character. Most of the courses he takes fall in the general area of competence. This includes subjects like Circuit Theory, Electronic Design and Analysis, Communication Systems, and the like. Subjects dealing with character, in contrast, are limited. In some universities, it may just be Electronics Engineering (ECE) Laws and Ethics and the focus is on “engineering made by man for man.” In this traditional view of Engineering, the environment is often neglected since it’s not about “man” (as opposed to the “society”). Over the last years, however, concerns …
