Distributed Generator And Their Effects On Distribution System Protection Performance, Hadi Zayandehroodi, Azah Mohamed, Hussain Shareef, Marjan Mohammadjafari

Dr. Hadi Zayandehroodi

The connection of distributed generators (DGs) to distribution networks greatly influences the performance and stability of such networks. Though DGs have significant economic and environmental benefits, increased penetration of DGs will impose significant technical barriers for the efficient and effective operation of bulk power systems. Increased fault current contribution and load flow changes are the major two impacts on utility systems, and these will affect existing protective relaying, especially overcurrent relays. To ensure safe and selective protection relay coordination, the impact of DGs should be taken into account when planning DG interconnection. This paper presents an introduction of distributed generators …

Nonlinear Multivariable Modeling Of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Using Core Vector Regression, M. Mohammadi, M. Raoofat, Hesamoddin Marzooghi, G. B. Gharehpetiangharehpetian

Hesamoddin Marzooghi

This paper presents new steady-state and dynamic models for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) using core vector regression (CVR). So far, most of conventional SOFC models have been presented based on conversion laws. Due to complex mathematical equations used in these models, they are time-consuming and need large amount of memory to be applied for controller design, especially power electronic interface controller design, generation and load predictions, optimization and other studies. To overcome these problems, some black-box models, such as support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN)-based models have been also proposed for SOFC. In this paper, in …

In the recent years, by developing the usage of new popular Electronic-Communication gadgets and home appliances like Mobile Phones and Microwave Ovens which are mostly

sources of Electromagnetic Wave Radiation, a severe public concern regarding the sideeffects “whether positive or negative” on human health and environment has been arisen. It means that there are new challenging issues rather than old one “the exposing to low radiofrequency emissions” which have been studied for past decades. Indeed, for more than 100 years, human has exposed to the Radio-waves radiation from Radio & TV broadcasting

transmitters besides the Radar and point to point …

Fault Classification Of Series-Compensated Transmission Lines Using Support Vector Machine, Almoataz Youssef Abdelaziz

Almoataz Youssef Abdelaziz

Recently, series compensation is widely used in transmission. However, this creates several problems to conventional protection approaches. This paper presents overcurrent protection and fault classification approach for series compensated transmission line using support vector machine (SVM). Postfault three lines current samples for half cycle are used as inputs to SVMs. The time taken for fault classification is 10 ms after the fault inception. Four SVMs are used; three SVMs (SVMa, SVMb and SVMc) are used for faulty phase detection and last SVM (SVMg) is used for ground detection. The polynomial kernel SVM is designed to provide the optimal classification conditions. …

Dr. ASADOLLAH KAZEMI

This paper presents a new method for locating voltage sag sources in power distribution networks. The proposed method estimates the voltages at the unmonitored buses by using the regression coefficients. First some bus voltages are monitored using power quality recorders in the power distribution system. Then, the voltage deviation index and the standard deviation index, represent the deviation of bus voltages before and after a disturbance are utilized to determine the voltage sag source location. To validate the proposed method, the IEEE 9 bus test system is used. The test results showed that the proposed method is accurate in determining …

Control Of A Bidirectional Z-Source Inverter Forelectric Vehicle Applications In Different Operation Modes, Omar Ellabban, Joeri Van Mierlo, Philippe Lataire

Omar Ellabban

This paper proposes two control strategies for the bidirectional Z-source inverters (BZSI) supplied by batteries for electric vehicle applications. The first control strategy utilizes the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) method to control the induction motor speed. The proposed speed control strategy is able to control the motor speed from zero to the rated speed with the rated load torque in both motoring and regenerative braking modes. The IFOC is based on PWM voltage modulation with voltage decoupling compensation to insert the shoot-through state into the switching signals using the simple boost shoot-through control method. The parameters of the four PI …
