Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Designing accurate, reliable, and energy-efficient localization techniques for underwater acoustic networks is highly challenging due to factors such as large propagation delays, the absence of Global Positioning System (GPS), node mobility, and limited acoustic link capacity. In any underwater sensor network (UWSN) monitoring application, data collected by underwater nodes becomes more meaningful when accompanied by location information. However, traditional localization methods often rely on geometric models and statistical filters that are highly sensitive to sensor noise and communication constraints. Energy consumption is another primary concern in UWSNs, not only because replacing and recharging underwater batteries are challenging, but also due …

Cross-Domain Disaggregation Of Electricity For Heating In All-Electric School Buildings – Learning From School Buildings With District Heating, Synne Krekling Lien, Ada Canaydin, Clayton Miller, Chun Fu, Hussain Kazmi, Jayaprakash Rajasekharan

Research Collection College of Integrative Studies

Electric heating is widespread in Norwegian buildings and significantly contributes to peak loads in the electricity grid. Non-residential buildings are typically heated either by district heating or a combination of electrical heating appliances. Despite its widespread use, most buildings lack sub-meters for electric heating. As a result, the true potential for energy efficiency and load flexibility from heating appliances in buildings remains unknown. Non-intrusive load monitoring and disaggregation techniques offer alternatives to sub-metering by using data-driven methods to extract electricity use for appliances from time-series data. However, little research has been conducted on disaggregating electrical heating loads from low-resolution data, …

Effect Of Capillary And Viscous Forces On Carbon Dioxide Desorption In Porous Adsorbent Layers, Caroline Isabel Mcclung

Theses and Dissertations

Temperature swing adsorption-based (TSA) carbon dioxide (CO2) separation processes, which involve an alternating flow of gases and liquids in adsorbent-coated microchannels, have been shown to yield superior and environmentally friendly performance than the existing processes. This technique begins by sending the impure gas mixture through hydrophobic silicalite adsorbent-coated microchannels, which results in the adsorption of CO2. Subsequently, hot water heat transfer fluid (HTF) flows through the same channels, displaces the purified gas stream, heats the adsorbent, desorbs the CO2, and removes that desorbed CO2 from the channel. This stage is followed by cooling …
