Online Virtual Network Provisioning In Distributed Cloud Computing Data Centers, Khaled Mefarh Alhazmi
Online Virtual Network Provisioning In Distributed Cloud Computing Data Centers, Khaled Mefarh Alhazmi
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Efficient virtualization methodologies constitute the core of cloud computing data center implementation. Clients are attracted to the cloud model by the ability to scale available resources dynamically and the flexibility in payment options. However, performance hiccups can push them to return to the buy-and-maintain model. Virtualization plays a key role in the synchronous management of the thousands of servers along with clients' data residing on them. To achieve seamless virtualization, cloud providers require a system that performs the function of virtual network mapping. This includes receiving the cloud client requests and allocating computational and network resources in a way that …
An Energy-Efficient, Time-Constrained Scheduling Scheme In Local Mobile Cloud, Ting Shi
An Energy-Efficient, Time-Constrained Scheduling Scheme In Local Mobile Cloud, Ting Shi
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Mobile devices have limited resource, such as computation performance and battery life. Mobile cloud computing is gaining popularity as a solution to overcome these resource limitations by sending heavy computation to resourceful servers and receiving the results from these servers. Local mobile clouds comprised of nearby mobile devices are proposed as a better solution to support real-time applications. Since network bandwidth and computational resource is shared among all the mobile devices, a scheduling scheme is needed to ensure that multiple mobile devices can efficiently offload tasks to local mobile clouds, satisfying the tasks' time constraint while keeping low-energy consumption. Two …
Dynamic Thermal And Power Management: From Computers To Buildings, Yong Fu
Dynamic Thermal And Power Management: From Computers To Buildings, Yong Fu
McKelvey School of Engineering Theses & Dissertations
Thermal and power management have become increasingly important for both computing and physical systems. Computing systems from real-time embedded systems to data centers require effective thermal and power management to prevent overheating and save energy. In the mean time, as a major consumer of energy buildings face challenges to reduce the energy consumption for air conditioning while maintaining comfort of occupants. In this dissertation we investigate dynamic thermal and power management for computer systems and buildings. (1) We present thermal control under utilization bound (TCUB), a novel control-theoretic thermal management algorithm designed for single core real-time embedded systems. A salient …
Developing An Architecture Framework For Cloud-Based, Multi-User, Finite Element Pre-Processing, Jared Calvin Briggs
Developing An Architecture Framework For Cloud-Based, Multi-User, Finite Element Pre-Processing, Jared Calvin Briggs
Theses and Dissertations
This research proposes an architecture for a cloud-based, multi-user FEA pre-processing system, where multiple engineers can access and operate on the same model in a parallel environment. A prototype is discussed and tested, the results of which show that a multi-user preprocessor, where all computing is done on a central server that is hosted on a high performance system, provides significant benefits to the analysis team. These benefits include a shortened preprocessing time, and potentially higher-quality models.
Reliability Models For Hpc Applications And A Cloud Economic Model, Thanadech Thanakornworakij
Reliability Models For Hpc Applications And A Cloud Economic Model, Thanadech Thanakornworakij
Doctoral Dissertations
With the enormous number of computing resources in HPC and Cloud systems, failures become a major concern. Therefore, failure behaviors such as reliability, failure rate, and mean time to failure need to be understood to manage such a large system efficiently.
This dissertation makes three major contributions in HPC and Cloud studies. First, a reliability model with correlated failures in a k-node system for HPC applications is studied. This model is extended to improve accuracy by accounting for failure correlation. Marshall-Olkin Multivariate Weibull distribution is improved by excess life, conditional Weibull, to better estimate system reliability. Also, the univariate …
A Parallel Genetic Algorithm For Placement And Routing On Cloud Computing Platforms, Jacob A. Berlier
A Parallel Genetic Algorithm For Placement And Routing On Cloud Computing Platforms, Jacob A. Berlier
Theses and Dissertations
The design and implementation of today's most advanced VLSI circuits and multi-layer printed circuit boards would not be possible without automated design tools that assist with the placement of components and the routing of connections between these components. In this work, we investigate how placement and routing can be implemented and accelerated using cloud computing resources. A parallel genetic algorithm approach is used to optimize component placement and the routing order supplied to a Lee's algorithm maze router. A study of mutation rate, dominance rate, and population size is presented to suggest favorable parameter values for arbitrary-sized printed circuit board …
