Conversational Agents have the potential to support healthcare through coaching exercise routines, but are still lacking in demonstrating authentic social behaviours to support engagement. To this end, we present a series of experiments that we conducted in order to investigate how automated health care coaches can be more effective when their interaction style is tailored to demonstrate qualities associated with a good bedside manner, namely active listening and reassurance. Rammed earth is a sustainable construction method with a lower carbon footprint and embodied energy compared to traditional materials like steel and concrete. However, its lower mechanical properties when compared to these forms of construction make it vulnerable to seismic forces. This paper reviews the published literature on enhancing rammed earth's mechanical properties through both chemical stabilisation and fibre reinforcement, with a focus on reusing waste materials. The effectiveness of these techniques are highlighted by comparing experimental results with minimum specifications taken from relevant guidelines and standards for building rammed earth structures in seismic zones. Zinc oxide Nanowires (ZnO-NWs) are promising biosensor materials and hold the key to overcoming challenges in the field. This chapter provides an introductory overview of biosensing technology, focusing on the fundamental principles and comparing ZnO-NWs with other nanostructures regarding the surface area, reactivity, electrical properties, charge transport behavior, optical, magnetic, and piezoelectric properties, and mechanical flexibility. Providing the synthesis and characterization methods, ZnO-NWs’ biosensing processes are also elaborated on surface modification for selectivity, integration with microfluidic systems, enhancing signal transduction, and connecting with biological elements like enzymes, antibodies, and DNA. Solid electrolytes are critical for structural batteries, combining energy storage with structural strength for applications like electric vehicles and aerospace. However, achieving high ionic conductivity remains challenging, compounded by a lack of standardized testing methodologies. This study examines the impact of experimental setups and data interpretation methods on the measured ionic conductivities of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs). SPEs were prepared using a polymer-induced phase separation process, resulting in a bi-continuous microstructure for improved ionic transport. The oceans remain one of Earth’s last great unknowns, with about 74% still unmapped to modern standards. Consequently, interpolation is employed to create seamless digital bathymetric models (DBMs) from incomplete hydrographic datasets, but this introduces unquantified depth uncertainties. This study aims to estimate and characterize uncertainties arising from set-line spacing hydrographic surveys, which are important for nautical charting, navigational safety, and many other applications. By sampling at different line spacings four complete coverage testbeds that vary in slope and roughness, the study interpolates across entire testbed areas using Spline, Inverse Distance Weighting, and Linear interpolation. Manzala Lake, the largest natural freshwater body in Egypt, is situated in the northeastern part of the Nile Delta. It faces major environmental challenges, largely due to pollution from untreated industrial effluents, sewage, and agricultural runoff. As part of Egypt's national initiative to rehabilitate its lakes, a development project was launched in 2017 and concluded in June 2022. The project aimed to purify the lake by eliminating contaminants, clearing invasive vegetation, deepening the canals, the study focuses on assessing land cover changes using remote sensing and GIS, and offers some recommendations for sustainable lake use following the development efforts. The Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) technique is a cold-mix asphalt (CMA) technology employed in New Mexico to rehabilitate existing pavements. Predicting and controlling ground vibrations from blasting is crucial for protecting structures and minimizing environmental impacts. This study investigates how explosive quantity and scaled distances affect peak particle velocity and establishes empirical equations to estimate this velocity at different distances from the blast area. The study found that the maximum charge per delay at a peak particle velocity of 10 mm/s was reduced to 13.46% as the delay timing was increased from 0 to 25 ms and 9.99% from 0 to 50 ms delay timing. This work explores use of a few-shot transfer learning method to train and implement a convolutional spiking neural network (CSNN) on a Brain Chip Akida AKD1000 neuromorphic system-on-chip for developing individual-level, instead of traditionally used group-level, models using electroencephalographic data. The efficacy of the method is studied on an advanced driver assist system related task of predicting braking intention. Approach. This study investigates the effects of self-piercing riveting (SPR) die type on the joint quality and failure modes of AA5052 SPR joints. Three die types: flat, pip, and ball-shaped were designed and processed for the SPR process, and 30 riveted specimens were prepared. A 2D axisymmetric finite element (FE) simulation model was established using LS-Dyna to evaluate the impact of each die type. The accuracy of the FE model was validated by comparing simulated joint cross-sections with experimental results. Speech recognition has the potential to make technology more accessible to users. However, the accuracy of speech recognition remains limited for users with disabilities, including those with Down Syndrome, and the types and frequencies of recognition errors are poorly understood. This paper characterizes these problems, focusing on errors occurring when recognizing Down Syndrome speech. We analyze the transcripts from six speech recognition algorithms (Google, IBM, Otter.ai, Microsoft, AssemblyAI, OpenAI) using the audio content of 15 individuals with Down Syndrome (331 dialogues; 3428 words). Reusing treated wastewater for agricultural purposes can provide local benefits to small, rural communities. Additionally, irrigation lagoons can be an attractive wastewater treatment technology in areas with high agriculture demands and low water availability. This descriptive study used stakeholder discussions to identify barriers and benefits of irrigation lagoons. Dissemination materials were developed to help Extension professionals distribute information regarding these systems to the communities they work closely with.

In this paper, multi-scale investigations, involving Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), ion chromatography, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), as well as unloading tests, were conducted to examine the brittle behaviors and mechanisms of rocks under chemical-unloading confinement conditions. This paper defines rock brittleness as the capacity to withstand multiscale fracturing based on experimental investigations into multiscale damage mechanisms and macro-mechanical responses. After that, two novel brittleness indices are proposed, utilizing the dissipated energy consumption and energy-drop coefficients proposed in this study. Abstract: Aiming at the problems of the traditional A* algorithm, such as the unhoped intersection between the planned path and the obstacles, the planned path has many inflection points and the search time is long, an improved bidirectional A* quadratic path planning algorithm for the indoor environments is proposed. Abstract: For the traditional flexible job shop scheduling problem, a joint optimization of machine dynamic pre-maintenance and green scheduling is considered to establish an integrated optimization model with the optimization objectives of minimizing maximum completion time, total carbon emissions, and total cost. An improved NSGA-II algorithm is proposed to solve the model. Abstract: To optimize the working trajectory of the robotic arm, a modified simulated annealing genetic algorithm is proposed. Comprehensively considering the operating requirements and performance characteristics of the robotic arm, the five-order polynomial interpolation method is used to plan a smooth motion trajectory in the joint space. Abstract: In order to improve the efficiency of cloud-based web services, an improved plant growth simulation algorithm scheduling model. This model first used mathematical methods to describe the relationships between cloud-based web services and the constraints of system resources. Then, a lightinduced plant growth simulation algorithm was established.
