Improving The Efficiency Of Wells Turbines In Wave Energy Harvesting Using Computer Simulations, Godfred Abotar-Aidoo, Isaac Plange

ASPIRE 2026

Oscillating Water Columns (OWCs) are among the most promising wave energy converters for harnessing renewable power from ocean waves. These systems use a bi-directional airflow to drive a Wells turbine connected to a generator. However, the turbine’s efficiency is limited by flow separation and stall at high angles of attack. To address this, we investigated the effect of passive flow control by adding stability strips along the suction side of the turbine blades. The unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations, coupled with the k–ω SST turbulence model, were solved in ANSYS CFX 2025 R1 to evaluate the aerodynamic performance. Non-dimensional performance …

Tkbe : Two Key Broadcast Encryption For The Iot, Rachit Parikh

Master’s Dissertations

The growing usage of the Internet of Things (IoT) has made it necessary to ensure

the security of these interconnected devices. Key management becomes particularly

challenging when devices are not always online due to resource constraints or business

decisions. Moreover, the IoT infrastructure typically relies on the publish-subscribe

model for communication, which raises additional security considerations since the

message broker becomes a central point of attack. Existing solutions with end-toend

encryption from publisher to subscriber are either computationally expensive for

resource constrained devices or compromise on the decoupling in publish/subscribe

systems. This thesis tackles the problem of efficient key management …

Uncertainty-Driven Fusion For Conflictive Multiview Data: Beyond View Alignment Assumptions, Puspamalya Sahoo

Master’s Dissertations

Multiview learning aims to integrate diverse feature representations to achieve a comprehen- sive understanding of data. Traditional approaches often assume strict alignment across views, making them ill-suited for real-world scenarios where low-quality conflictive instances, i.e. in- stances with conflicting information across views are prevalent. Existing methods largely focus on eliminating conflicting instances by discarding them or substituting conflicting views, over- looking the need for practical decision making in such cases. Furthermore, while the recently proposed Reliable Conflictive Multiview Learning (RCML) framework introduces the idea of attaching reliabilities to decision outcomes, it leaves certain theoretical gaps unaddressed, es-pecially prioritization of conflictive …

Nasa Design And Analysis Of Pegda Hydrogels For Microgreen Cultivation In Space, Kelly Wu, Gabriel Antigua, Artur Abramyan

Publications and Research

With the growth of the space economy worldwide, sustainable and soil-less food systems for long-duration space missions become increasingly important. In this study, Polyethylene Glycol Diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogels were experimented with as a biocompatible medium in arugula microgreen growth without utilizing soil. Among the most considerable challenges was the fact that the plants' root growth exceeded the hydrogel capacity, which caused seedling dislodgment and starvation. To combat this, computer-aided design (CAD) was utilized to 3D print different mold designs to try and control root development further. The most promising of these designs were coil and tree-branch molds, promoting lateral or …

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Struvite (ST) recovered during wastewater treatment has been sparsely applied in cement-based composites. This study systematically evaluated the thixotropic behavior of cement-struvite (CST) pastes, a mix of 5–20 % ST by mass of cement, and proposed the interaction mechanisms leading to the pastes' thixotropy. The hysteresis loop area was used to establish the pastes' thixotropy and investigate its relationship with increased ST content, temperature, and yield stress. In the thixotropic behavior model used, the equilibrium shear stress was employed to examine the CST pastes' irreversible change; the characteristic time of deflocculation was used to study the flocs destruction process; and …

Asphalt recycling technologies have advanced considerably over the last few decades with the utilization of reclaimed asphalt pavements (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS). Characterizing aged and heterogeneous binders in these mixtures is challenging, particularly with limited extracted binders. This study suggests a data-driven framework that considers the rheological, chemical, and thermal characteristics to predict the binders' performance. Ninety-seven mixtures with 0–35% of the asphalt binder replaced with RAP/RAS binders were included as cores from the field, plant-produced mixtures, and laboratory-fabricated mixtures. The binders were chemically quantified using aging, aromatic, and aliphatic indices. Thermal analyses of the binders involved the …

Towards Accountability: A Primer On The Space Debris Problem And An Overview Of The Legal Issues Surrounding It, William Schonberg

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Since 1957, the near-Earth population of trackable space objects has grown in number to over 36,000. Of these 36,000+ trackable objects now in low Earth orbit, just a few thousand are working spacecraft. The rest are Earth-orbiting objects which are no longer operational and are considered to be space junk. Because this junk can no longer receive maneuvering commands from its Earth-based owners, the survivability of other spacecraft traveling through or operating in Earth orbit can be jeopardized by the impacts of any number of pieces of this space junk, whose origins can usually be traced back to defunct satellites. …
