Automatically Inferring Image Bases Of Arm32 Binaries, Daniel T. Chong Jan 2022

Automatically Inferring Image Bases Of Arm32 Binaries, Daniel T. Chong

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Reverse engineering tools rely on the critical image base value for tasks such as correctly mapping code into virtual memory for an emulator or accurately determining branch destinations for a disassembler. However, binaries are often stripped and therefore, do not explicitly state this value. Currently available solutions for calculating this essential value generally require user input in the form of parameter configurations or manual binary analysis, thus these methods are limited by the experience and knowledge of the user. In this thesis, we propose a user-independent solution for determining the image base of ARM32 binaries and describe our implementation. Our …

Despite advancements in procedures and patient care, mortality rates for neonatal recipients of the Norwood procedure, a palliation for single ventricle congenital malformations, remain high due to the use of a fixed-diameter blood shunt. In this study, a new geometrically tunable blood shunt was investigated to address limitations of the current treatment paradigm (e.g., Modified Blalock-Taussig Shunt) by allowing for controlled modulation of blood flow through the shunt to accommodate physiological changes due to the patient’s growth. First, mathematical and computational cardiovascular models were established to investigate the hemodynamic requirements of growing neonatal patients with shunts and to inform design …

The Extended Effect Of Top-Dressed Recovered Struvite Fertiliser On Residual Irish Grassland Soil Phosphorus Levels Compared To Commercial Phosphorus Fertiliser, Ciarán O’Donnell, Denise Barnett, Joe Harrington, Niamh Power

Publications

Phosphorus (P) is an essential growth-limiting nutrient that cannot be synthetically produced. Mineral P fertilisers are typically applied to crops to sustain modern farming practice and food production. These fertilisers are generally derived from finite phosphate ore, for which there is much concern over long-term sustainability. To address these concerns, various technologies have been developed to recover P from municipal wastewater treatment plants. One product recovered from these processes is struvite, which is a precipitate formed of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate. To analyse the fertilisation value of the recovered struvite, field trials were conducted on perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) over …

Optimization-Based Uav Fleet Routing And Safety Assurance – Models, Algorithms, And Prototyping, Zhenyu Zhou

Wayne State University Dissertations

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), especially multi-rotor drones, have been increasingly used in various scenarios in the last decade. With the reduced hardware costs, improved battery life, and enhanced processor performance, we can eventually allow all kinds of drones to automatically travel through the low-altitude airspace. The large-scale application of drones will extend the basic transportation facilities from the ground to the air and form 3D transportation networks for the future. Compared to current ground-vehicle and aircraft traffic systems, multi-UAV systems are far from well-developed. Most current multi-UAV systems are human-operated or pre-programmed to perform specific tasks. The current application of …

Automotive Product Assortment Planning With Consideration Of Distribution Channel Dynamics, Madagedara Maduka Rushanjalee Balasooriya

Wayne State University Dissertations

Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are putting a lot of effort into maintaining an efficient order catalog to offer better products to their customers in maketo-stock (MTS) markets. While product “assortment planning" research grows to more effectively identify the best assortments for OEMs, the existing configurable assortment planning literature ignores a significant dimension: the impact of distribution channels, especially dealer franchise networks. Dealers face unique challenges in trying to best satisfy the choice preferences of their local consumers by balancing their limited product configuration inventory with profitability. In many predominantly MTS automotive markets such as the U.S., the reality is …

Publications

Investigating the impact of land cover change in hydrological modelling is essential for water resources management. This paper investigates the importance of landcover change in the development of a physically-based hydrological model called SWAT. The study area considered is the Dodder River basin located in southern Dublin, Ireland. Runoff at the basin outlet was simulated using SWAT for 1993–2019 using five landcover maps obtained for 1990, 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018. Results indicate that, in general, the SWAT model-simulated runoff for a chosen time-period are closer to the real-world observations when the landcover data used for simulation was collated as …

Beneficial use of dredged sediments, either in harbours or waterways, is based on their potential as alternative resources. Such sediments can be considered as bulk materials for industrial needs, which is predicated on their current waste status or meeting end-of-waste constraints. They also can be an integral part of beneficial use projects using sediments as a bulk component, including civil engineering and landscaping. This is particularly important for beneficial use projects focusing on climate change effects mitigation, such as flood protection works, coastline defence or littoral urban areas redevelopment. When dredged sediment is used as a bulk material, its acceptability …

The Role Of Ball Backspin Alignment And Variability In Basketball Shooting Accuracy, Nathan Slegers, Dave Love Jan 2022

The Role Of Ball Backspin Alignment And Variability In Basketball Shooting Accuracy, Nathan Slegers, Dave Love

Faculty Publications - Biomedical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering

Interaction between the shooting hand and ball at the moment a basketball is released generates a three dimensional backspin of the ball. This study is the first to investigate how characteristics of the backspin alignment and variability contribute to lateral shooting accuracy. Spin axis (SA) direction and backspin magnitude were measured on 25 shot attempts for 26 collegiate basketball players (male: n = 16, female: n = 10). The mean SA alignment, as viewed from the shooting hand side, was found to be tipped down and towards the target (p < 0.001). Standard deviations (SD) in the SA alignment were strong predictors of lateral accuracy (vertical SD: r = 0.80, p < 0.001, forward-backward SD: r = 0.51, p = 0.01), with variation in the vertical alignment being the best predictor. No significant correlation between mean SA misalignment and lateral accuracy was observed. However, intra-individual relationships between SA misalignment and lateral error revealed that individuals tended to have 0.17 degrees more misalignment for each cm of lateral error (p < 0.001, 95% CI: 0.24–0.09). These indicate that while an individual’s mean alignment may not predict lateral accuracy, improving one’s SA alignment and reducing alignment variability may increase lateral accuracy.

Multiscale Simulation And Machine Learning-Assisted Performance Prediction For Cementitious Composites, Gideon A. Lyngdoh

Faculty Publications - Biomedical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering

Concrete is the most widely used construction material in the world for building infrastructures, bridges, and tunnels. However, cement production contributes to 5-7% of the global CO2 emissions, and thus, there is a significant need for innovative sustainable alternatives without compromising on the mechanical properties. Most of the approaches to address these concerns so far rely on the trial and error-based experimental response. Hence, robust multiscale simulation-based design approaches are needed to be developed for fundamental understanding as well as the comprehensive design of these new sustainable innovative materials. However, performing the simulations with millions of degrees of freedom could …

The circular economy aims to promote the use of recycled products and to close the nutrient cycle loop by avoiding nutrient leakage and detrimental environmental effects, while also reducing the dependency on fossil fuels. The production of nitrogen is energy-intensive, requiring natural gas, whereas, finite resources like phosphorus and potassium are mined. Recent developments in nutrient recovery technologies have resulted in different types of recycling-derived fertilisers (RDFs) with the potential to substitute commonly used synthetic mineral fertilisers. This study aims to understand perceptions and preferences regarding the properties and parameters that end-users find important in RDFs. A better understanding of …

Dielectrophoretic Trapping Of Carbon Nanotubes For Temperature Sensing, Kaylee Burdette

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Conventional sensors are rapidly approaching efficiency limitations at their current size. In designing more efficient sensors, low dimensional materials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), quantum dots, and DNA origami can be used to enable higher degrees of sensitivity. Because of the high atomic surface to core ratio, these materials can be used to detect slight changes in chemical composition, strain, and temperature. CNTs offer unique advantages in different types of sensors due to their electromechanical properties. In temperature sensing, the high responsiveness to temperature and durability can be used to produce an accurate, reliable sensor in even extreme temperatures. This …

Design And Integration Of Smart Surgical Drill For Use In Novel Spine Surgery, Abigail Brazil, Lucas Anderson, Michael Cullen, Mikaela O'Brien, Sajani Sivakumar, Sherrina Hwang

ENGS 89/90 Reports

Spinal fusion surgeries require substantial resources, result in long recovery times, and can cause unintended damage to the patient. PEER Technologies is working to revolutionize the spinal fusion space with the development of a new procedure, termed C-LIF. PEER’s C-LIF procedure is minimally invasive, minimizing patient tissue damage and decreasing recovery time, but lacks the sensory information present in open surgery. Our team investigated how different sensing modalities could be used to account for this lost information. We began by identifying relevant sensing modalities, interviewing spinal surgeons, and performing ex-vivo testing in excised pig spines. We then developed a benchtop …

Developing A Standardized Approach To Improve Solar Hybrid Minigrids In Nigeria, Ethan Adner, Warren Coleman, Daniel Gyampo, Ashaunte Hill

ENGS 89/90 Reports

A large number of communities in rural areas without access to electricity from the grid rely on inefficient sources of power such as diesel generators, which present setbacks attributed to high pollution and have a high levelized cost of energy (LCOE) currently between US$ 0.35–0.70/kWh. Solar hybrid minigrids present a possible solution to this energy problem, however most current iterations fail to compete with diesel in terms of the LCOE, due to the actual grid operation not matching the theorized grid operation, mainly because of oversizing and improper dispatch of the system. We tackle this problem by presenting a report …
