Feasibility Study Of The Metaverse Technology In Coal Mine Emergency Training And Drills, Guo Yangyang
Feasibility Study Of The Metaverse Technology In Coal Mine Emergency Training And Drills, Guo Yangyang
Coal Geology & Exploration
Coal mine safety training and emergency drills are effective measures to prevent disasters and accidents. At this stage, however, there are problems such as the boring training content, drills emphasizing “performance” rather than “practice”, and formalism. Metaverse technology integrates VR, AR, 3D, blockchain, Internet of things, AI, digital twin and other technologies, therefore, it is characterized by intuitiveness, strong interaction and high knowledge conversion rate in coal mine safety training and emergency drills, which can well solve the above problems. Now the metaverse technology is increasingly mature from hardware, software to various supporting facilities, while it is still faced with …

A chiral dimer of an organic semiconductor was assembled from octaniline (octamer of polyaniline) conjugated to DNA. Facile reconfiguration between the monomer and dimer of octaniline–DNA was achieved. The geometry of the dimer and the exciton coupling between octaniline molecules in the assembly was studied both experimentally and theoretically. The octaniline dimer was readily switched between different electronic states by protonic doping and exhibited a Davydov splitting comparable to those previously reported for DNA–dye systems employing dyes with strong transition dipoles. This approach provides a possible platform for studying the fundamental properties of organic semiconductors with DNA-templated assemblies, which serve …

Characteristics And Detection Performance Of The Source Of Seismic While Excavating In Underground Coal Mines, Wang Baoli, Cheng Jianyuan, Jin Dan, Yang Xiaogang, Yang Hui
Coal Geology & Exploration
Against a background of intelligent coal mines, seismic while excavating has become one of the key geological guarantee technologies for safe excavation in the mining face. It can detect hidden geological structures in real-time, in advance and finely, such as goafs, faults, and collapsed columns, effectively promoting safe and efficient excavation and production. Different from the widely used advanced detection technology of reflection in-seam wave, the vibration signal of the tunneling machine is used as the excitation source, which replaces the explosive source in conventional seismic exploration. It has the advantages of environmental frendliness, safety, low cost, recyclability and combined …

Application Of Borehole Transient Electromagnetic Method In Detecting The Cross-Border Mining Goaf, Fan Tao, Li Ping, Zhao Zhao, Li Wei, Zhao Rui, Zhang Peng, Yao Weihua, Li Yuteng, Fang Zhe
Coal Geology & Exploration
Cross-border mining in underground coal mines disrupts the order of coal resource development, and has huge hidden safety danger. Accurate detection of goafs caused by cross-border mining and their boundaries is extremely important for safe mining. Conventional mine transient electromagnetic detection methods are susceptible to interference from metal and electromagnetic signals in the roadway, and its detection accuracy is limited, which makes it difficult to meet the needs of accurate interpretation of goaf boundary. For the purpose of solving this problem, a drilling transient electromagnetic method and construction technology for transmitting and receiving signals in drilling is proposed to increase …

Application Of Reflected In-Seam Wave Detection For Small Faults In Thick Coal Seams, Su Xiaoyun
Coal Geology & Exploration
In general, the fault distance and extension length of small faults in the working face of thick coal seams and extremely thick coal seams are short. Due to the limitation of resolution, it is generally difficult to detect such small faults with current methods and instruments. The unclear detection of small faults will have a great impact on the efficient recovery of the intelligent working face. To solve this problem, the numerical simulation and field experiment of small fault reflected in-seam wave detection in the thick coal seam are carried out. In terms of numerical simulation, the three-component elastic wave …

Coal Geology & Exploration
The geological transparency of water disasters is in urgent need to serve the intelligent and unmanned mining of coal mines. Focused on the water disasters during mining in the working face, the mine-used resistivity monitoring system uses pseudo-random signal transmission and full waveform data acquisition to improve the anti-interference ability of the equipment. Electrode grounding condition consistency correction and monitoring data normalization are used to suppress false anomalies. Time-lapse resistivity imaging is used to identify and extract the abnormal resistivity response of hidden water hazards. The monitoring system is able to estimate the risk of water disasters by monitoring the …

Resistivity Detection And Its Application In Underground Coal Mine Directional Boreholes, Li Bofan, Liu Lei, Fan Tao, Jiang Qiping, Wang Jie
Coal Geology & Exploration
The working face threatened by high gas or Ordovician limestone water pressure generally adopts directional drilling technology to carry out fracturing or grouting works at the bottom of the working face before mining to ensure the safety of mining. In-hole probing in directional boreholes in the bottom plate can reveal the hidden structures in the working face in a more detailed way, and can also realize “one hole for multiple uses”. In order to solve the detection problem in the directional drilling, a method of DC resistivity detection in the horizontal directional drilling is proposed. To solve the problem of …

Development And Application Of A Mine-Used Dynamic Azimuth Gamma Instrument While Drilling, Chen Long, Chen Gang, Zhang Jiguan
Coal Geology & Exploration
Gas drainage borehole along coal seams is the most direct and effective gas control method at present. As a common basis for identifying coal bearing formations, natural gamma can tell whether the borehole trajectory is in the target layer according to the formation radioactivity. However, the existing mine-used gamma logging tools can only carry out sliding drilling measurement, which are not applicable to compound drilling or rotary steering drilling, and cannot meet the working condition of continuous gamma dynamic measurement. On the basis of the analysis of the characteristics of the working conditions of MWD and the principle of gamma …

This paper presents a method to estimate the covariances of the inputs in a factor-graph formulation for localization under non-line-of-sight conditions. A general solution based on covariance estimation and M-estimators in linear regression problems, is presented that is shown to give unbiased estimators of multiple variances and are robust against outliers. An iteratively re-weighted least squares algorithm is proposed to jointly compute the proposed variance estimators and the state estimates for the nonlinear factor graph optimization. The efficacy of the method is illustrated in a simulation study using a robot localization problem under various process and measurement models and measurement …

Modeling Vapor Transfer In Soil Water And Heat Simulations: A Modularized, Partially-Coupled Approach, Zhuangji Wang, Dennis Timlin, David Fleisher, Wenguang Sun, Sahila Beegum, Sanai Li, Ya Chen, Vandimalla R. Reddy, Katherine Tully, Robert Horton
Nebraska Water Center: Faculty Publications
Coupled water and heat transfer models are widely used to analyze soil water content and temperature dynamics, evaluate agricultural management systems, and support crop growth modelling. In relatively dry soils, vapor transfer, rather than liquid water flux, becomes the main pathway for water redistribution. However, in some modularized soil simulators, e.g., 2DSOIL (Timlin et al., 1996), vapor transfer is not included, which may induce errors in soil water and heat modelling. Directly embedding vapor transfer into existing water and heat transfer modules may violate the modularized architecture of those simulators. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to design a …

Wind is one of the deadliest and most expensive hazards in the United States. Wind hazards cause significant damage to buildings and economic losses to homeowners. Economic losses average approximately $3.8 billion annually from hurricane winds and are not decreasing, even despite enhanced construction practices to reduce wind damage. Thus, the effectiveness of mitigation strategies should be evaluated in order to lower the cost incurred by this hazard. Several studies have suggested building code improvements to mitigate the wind hazard, this additional comprehensive research provides selecting economically beneficial mitigation strategies to consider in building code revisions. In a step toward …

Optimization Of A Smart Sensor Wearable Knee Sleeve For Measuring Skin Strain To Determine Joint Biomechanics, David Steven Wood
Theses and Dissertations
This work addresses three objectives related to the design and modeling of an instrumented knee sleeve and its high deflection strain gauges for at-home knee rehabilitation. First, a multi-objective Bayesian approach was developed to economically optimize a high deflection strain gauge's mechanical and electrical behavior. Four objective functions were simultaneously optimized with two design variables in seven iterations; 90% faster than a grid search approach. The presented algorithm adjusts variables in the manufacturing process of high deflection strain gauges and produces a sensor with optimized properties for a predetermined purpose. Second, an algorithm was created to accurately approximate the dynamic …

Stabilizing The Interface Of All-Solid-State Electrolytes Against Cathode Electrodes By Atomic Layer Deposition, Ye Jin, Han Yu, Xiaoqing He, Xinhua Liang
Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
In recent years, with the severe safety problems of organic electrolytes, all-solid-state electrolytes (ASSEs) have been considered as an appealing choice to replace organic electrolytes due to their high reliability and safety. However, the uncontrolled interfacial chemical reactions between electrodes and ASSEs would lead to high interfacial resistance, which is detrimental for the battery performance. In this work, LiFePO4 (LFP) particles were coated with ultra-thin ZrO2 films by atomic layer deposition (ALD) and the effects of thin film coating on the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries using the NASICON-type Li1.5Al0.5Ge1.5(PO4) …

Resolving The Three-Dimensional Rotational And Translational Dynamics Of Single Molecules Using Radially And Azimuthally Polarized Fluorescence, Oumeng Zhang, Weiyan Zhou, Jin Lu, Tingting Wu, Matthew D. Lew
Electrical & Systems Engineering Publications and Presentations
We report a radially and azimuthally polarized (raPol) microscope for high detection and estimation performance in single-molecule orientation-localization microscopy (SMOLM). With 5000 photons detected from Nile red (NR) transiently bound within supported lipid bilayers (SLBs), raPol SMOLM achieves 2.9 nm localization precision, 1.5° orientation precision, and 0.17 sr precision in estimating rotational wobble. Within DPPC SLBs, SMOLM imaging reveals the existence of randomly oriented binding pockets that prevent NR from freely exploring all orientations. Treating the SLBs with cholesterol-loaded methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD-chol) causes NR’s orientational diffusion to be dramatically reduced, but curiously NR’s median lateral displacements drastically increase from 20.8 to …

Conceptual Framework To Integrate Economic Drivers Of Decision Making For Technology Adoption In Agriculture, Thiago L. Romanelli, Francisco Muñoz-Arriola, Andre F. Colaço
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications
This study evaluates how much technology adoption could cost in a variety of crop-production scenarios. Cost-reduction simulations consider scenarios of higher input use efficiency such as reducing the usage of diesel, labor, irrigation, fertilizer, herbicide, and seed, among others. The scenarios aim to increase yields by integrating the effect of each input-reduction on the total operating costs. Agricultural production estimates for Nebraska in the US indicates that a technology that saves 1% of diesel is cost-effective, costing between USD 0.15/ha and USD 0.32/ha (for corn). Improvements on input use efficiency should be prioritized to incentivize technology development and adoption. This …

Growing volumes and varieties of human event sequence data are available in many applications such as recommender systems, social network, medical diagnosis, and predictive policing. Human event sequence data is usually clustered and exhibits self-exciting properties. Machine learning models especially deep neural network models have shown great potential in improving the prediction accuracy of future events. However, current approaches still suffer from several drawbacks such as model transparency, unfair prediction and the poor prediction accuracy due to data sparsity and bias. Another issue in modeling human event data is that data collected from real word is usually incomplete, and even …

Surface Acoustic Wave (Saw) Sensors: Physics, Materials, And Applications, Debdyuti Mandal, Sourav Banerjee
Surface Acoustic Wave (Saw) Sensors: Physics, Materials, And Applications, Debdyuti Mandal, Sourav Banerjee
Faculty Publications
Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are the guided waves that propagate along the top surface of a material with wave vectors orthogonal to the normal direction to the surface. Based on these waves, SAW sensors are conceptualized by employing piezoelectric crystals where the guided elastodynamic waves are generated through an electromechanical coupling. Electromechanical coupling in both active and passive modes is achieved by integrating interdigitated electrode transducers (IDT) with the piezoelectric crystals. Innovative meta-designs of the periodic IDTs define the functionality and application of SAW sensors. This review article presents the physics of guided surface acoustic waves and the piezoelectric materials …
Strengthening A Linear Reformulation Of The 0-1 Cubic Knapsack Problem Via Variable Reordering, Richard Forrester, Lucas Waddell
Strengthening A Linear Reformulation Of The 0-1 Cubic Knapsack Problem Via Variable Reordering, Richard Forrester, Lucas Waddell
Faculty Journal Articles
The 0-1 cubic knapsack problem (CKP), a generalization of the classical 0-1 quadratic knapsack problem, is an extremely challenging NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem. An effective exact solution strategy for the CKP is to reformulate the nonlinear problem into an equivalent linear form that can then be solved using a standard mixed-integer programming solver. We consider a classical linearization method and propose a variant of a more recent technique for linearizing 0-1 cubic programs applied to the CKP. Using a variable reordering strategy, we show how to improve the strength of the linear programming relaxation of our proposed reformulation, which ultimately …
