Experimental Optimization Of Simulated Ring Rolling Operation For Heavy Rail Industry, Jacob M. Summers

Masters Theses

“Industrially cast AISI 1070 steel wheel pre-forms from Amsted Rail Co. were experimentally hot rolled to simulate the conditions for industrial wheel rolling. Ring rolling of near net shape castings can improve location specific properties by decreasing segregation, closing porosity, and reducing grain size without the use of multiple forging operations in a traditional forging line. As-cast wheel sections were subjected to thermomechanical processing routes using a 2-high rolling mill in a temperature range of 830°C to 1200°C. The goal being to simulate the ring rolling process and optimize benefits of mechanical properties of the as-rolled steel. Charpy V- and …

Implementation Of Good Distribution Practice In A Pharmaceutical Manufacturer, Pana Chinajitphan

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Good Distribution Practice (GDP) has recently been adopted and practised by Thailand's pharmaceutical industry, which has complemented the supply chain perspective and radically changed the quality landscape of the industry. This study presents a case of a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Thailand that implemented GDP to ensure the quality of its products during storage and distribution processes, as well as to prevent the entry of falsified products into the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain (PSC). The GDP implementation combined Project Management and Quality Risk Management (QRM) to identify operational gaps, manage identified risks, and reduce GDP gaps. After analysing internal stakeholders, related teams …

Diabetic Retinopathy Severity Classification Using Convolutional Neural Network Withtransfer Learning, Pranajit Kumar Das Jan 2022

Diabetic Retinopathy Severity Classification Using Convolutional Neural Network Withtransfer Learning, Pranajit Kumar Das

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Diabetic Retinopathy is a common retina disease caused by diabetes that is very difficult to diagnose initially because of its asymptomatic nature, which leads to permanent vision loss. Early and accurate detection of diabetic retinopathy is an effective way to prevent blindness. While screening programs are the most effective means of detecting diabetic retinopathy, it has various limitations like time consuming, laborious tasks, require a lot of expert ophthalmologists and technicians with standardized medical equipment. Automatic diabetic retinopathy classification using artificial intelligence and computer vision techniques mostly overcome the above-mentioned limitations despite it still being a challenging task. In this …

Soil Contamination And Risk Assessments On Selected Dumpsites Within The Basement Complex And Sedimentary Formations Of Ogun State, South-Western Nigeria, Akintayo O. Ojo, Oluwaseun T. Olurin, Oluseyi O. Adeleke

Applied Environmental Research

The concentrations of inorganic elements in soils of Saje, Ita-Oshin, Premier, and Oke-Diya dumpsites were determined using an X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer to assess the soil quality through chronological changes with depths. A soil core sampler collects 56 samples at 20, 40, 60, and 80 cm depths. Saje showed high mean concentrations of Ca, K, Fe, Rb, and Ti at all depths, while Oke-Diya revealed high mean concentrations of Ca, K, Fe, Rb, Ti, Mn, Zn, V, Cr, and Ni at all depths. These concentrations were in a closed range suggesting a build-up of elements in the soil profiles. Oke-Diya had …

Part of the Marine Energy Collegiate Competition (MECC) is the optional Build and Test Challenge where teams are encouraged to build a portion of their proposed solution. After the conducted testing the laboratory results are compared to the simulated and calculated models. For the MECC the University of New Hampshire (UNH) team decided to use a wave energy converter to produce pressurized water. The pressurized water would be filtered through a reverse osmosis membrane to make it potable. Our system uses the power of the ocean waves to move a float up and down in heave motion. This motion drives …

Overcoming The Limitations Of The Green Pyramid Rating System In The Egyptian Construction Industry: A Critical Analysis, Ahmed Osama Daoud, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat Othman, Obas John Ebohon, Ali Bayyati

Architectural Engineering

Despite the tangible contributions of the construction industry to social development and economic growth, it is known for its natural resources overconsumption and solid waste (SW) generation both of which have major negative impacts on the natural environment. In the particular case of materials waste, the construction industry worldwide accounts for about 50% of global annual generated SW. In addition, construction materials may contribute up to 50% of the total project cost. Accordingly, the negative implications of the construction industry have compelled many nations to develop green building rating systems in order to preserve the environment, promote the economic efficiency …

Global evaporation monitoring from Earth observation thermal infrared satellite missions is historically challenged due to the unavailability of any direct measurements of aerodynamic temperature. State-of-the-art one-source evaporation models use remotely sensed radiometric surface temperature as a substitute for the aerodynamic temperature and apply empirical corrections to accommodate for their inequality. This introduces substantial uncertainty in operational drought mapping over complex landscapes. By employing a non-parametric model, we show that evaporation can be directly retrieved from thermal satellite data without the need of any empirical correction. Independent evaluation of evaporation in a broad spectrum of biome and aridity yielded statistically significant …
