Modeling, Control And Analysis Of Inverter-Based Generators In The Power Grids, Yangkun Xu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Nowadays, the inverter-based generators (IBGs) has been exponentially integrated into the power grid due to environment and energy saving concerns. However, the high penetration of low inertia IBGs brings new problems on the system stability. The main objectives of this dissertation are to: 1- carry out large-signal analysis to identify the stability issues and small-signal analysis to assess the stability of the power systems, and 2- provide a standard measuring procedure to identify the admittance of IBGs. In addition, investigation on a novel DC-based IBGs architecture is carried out. In this dissertation, one widely used IBG is investigated: Type-4 wind …

Data-Informed Decision Support To Improve Pediatric And Maternal Care Quality Under Medicaid Managed Care Settings, Hasan Symum
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Over the last two decades, the United States has spent almost twice as much per person in healthcare compared to most other wealthy countries. However, this higher spending has not necessarily transformed into improved quality of care; According to World Health Organization reports, the US now ranks 39th for child health and wellbeing and worst in maternal care among developed nations. In terms of proportion of preventable hospital visits, low-risk cesarean sections, and avoidable maternal morbidity/death, the U.S. is among the highest compared with the peer nations. The prevalence of these adverse outcomes in pediatric and obstetric care is particularly …

Fiber-based reinforced plastics are widely used materials in different industries - e.g., Automotive, Aerospace, Defense- because of their various advantages. The most reliable raw materials for manufacturing fiber-based composites are pre-impregnated reinforcing fiber (prepreg). However, the limitation of using prepreg lies in its instability at room temperature. Prepregs have a specific out-life which sometimes makes the manufacturing process difficult. The objective of this study is to find out a way to investigate the room temperature aging effect on prepreg by analyzing the enthalpy and dielectric properties. In this study, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to measure the reaction enthalpy …

This paper presents a multi-sensor data collection and data fusion procedure for nondestructive evaluation/testing (NDE/NDT) of a concrete bridge deck. Three NDE technologies, vertical electrical impedance (VEI), ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and high-definition imaging (HDI) for surface crack detection, were deployed on the bridge deck. A neural network autoencoder was trained to quantify the relationship between VEI and GPR results using the data collected at common positions. This relationship was then used for fusion of VEI and GPR data to increase the reliability and spatial resolution of the NDE measurements and to generate a data-fused condition map that showed novel characteristics. …

P2-structured Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.67O2 (PNNMO) is a promising Na-ion battery cathode material, but its rapid capacity decay during cycling remains a hurdle. Li doping in layered transition-metal oxide (TMO) cathode materials is known to enhance their electrochemical properties. Nevertheless, the influence of Li at different locations in the structure has not been investigated. Here, the crystallographic role and electrochemical impact of lithium on different sites in PNNMO is investigated in LixNa0.67–yNi0.33Mn0.67O2+δ (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.2, y = 0, 0.1). Lithium occupancy on prismatic Na …

Abstract
Purpose: Public Service Organisations (PSOs) are facing continuing funding challenges and increased pressure to maintain and improve service delivery with fewer resources. One response, with the promise of improving efficiency rather than cutting services, has been to implement Continuous Improvement (CI) but success has been sporadic and unpredictable. The well documented and pervasive CI methodologies in PSOs, including Lean and Six Sigma, have general agreement across practitioners and scholars alike, thus the reasons behind their potted success must lie elsewhere, in the culture or the environment perhaps? This work explores the wider contextual issues of CI implementation with the …

Breaking The Acoustic Diffraction Limit With An Arbitrary Shape Acoustic Magnifying Lens, Ali Abdolali, Hooman Barati Sedeh, Mohammad Hosein Fakheri, Chen Shen, Fei Sun
Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering Departmental Research
Based on the transformation acoustics methodology, the design principle for achieving an arbitrary shape magnifying lens (ASML) is proposed. Contrary to the previous works, the presented ASML is competent of realizing far-field high resolution images and breaking the diffraction limit, regardless of the position of the utilized sources. Therefore, objects locating within the designed ASML can be properly resolved in the far-field region. It is shown that the obtained material through the theoretical investigations becomes an acoustic null medium (ANM), which has recently gained a significant attention. Besides the homogeneity of ANM, which makes it an implementable material, it is …

Early-Age Strength Of Co2 Cured Alkali-Activated Blast Furnace Slag Pastes, Yubin Jun, Seong Ho Han, Jae Hong Kim
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The effect of CO2 curing including pre-conditioning on alkali-activated slags, activated by different alkaline activators (NaOH, Na2SiO3, and KOH solution), is studied. While dry pre-conditioning before the CO2 curing increases the strengths of all mixtures, the effect of pre-conditioning time is dependent on the alkali activator used to produce samples. The CO3-bearing reaction product in samples also depends on the alkali activator. Gaylussite, pirssonite, hydrotalcite, and calcite are observed in the NaOH activator, and calcite, hydrotalcite, and C4AcH11 are detected in the NaOH and Na2SiO3 (9:1) …
