Feasibility Study On The Principle Of Punching-Shearing Composite Rock Fragmentation Mode Of Connecting Holes In Rock Strata, Wang Chuanliu
Feasibility Study On The Principle Of Punching-Shearing Composite Rock Fragmentation Mode Of Connecting Holes In Rock Strata, Wang Chuanliu
Coal Geology & Exploration
Replacing roadway with borehole is an important research direction of underground coal mine drilling technology, which has the advantages of high efficiency and low cost. However, in the construction of large diameter connecting holes in rock strata, the multi-stage reaming method has such problems as long lifting and drilling time and low efficiency of hole formation. This paper proposes the principle of punching-shearing composite rock fragmentation through structural and technological innovation without changing the configuration of drilling equipment. It is a creative combination of punching rock fragmentation of high-pressure water-impactor-inner bit rock and shearing rock fragmentation of drilling rig-drilling pipe-outer …

Modeling Of Bearing Voltage In Electric Machines Based On Electromagnetic Fea And Measured Bearing Capacitance, Peng Han, Greg Heins, Dean Patterson, Mark Theile, Dan M. Ionel
Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky Faculty Publications
Bearing voltages and associated bearing currents in electric machines driven by pulsewidth modulation converters with high switching frequencies and high dv/dt can cause premature bearing failures. This article proposes a new modeling approach for the prediction of steady-state and transient bearing voltages based on two-dimensional (2-D) electromagnetic finite element analysis with coupled external circuits using measured bearing capacitance values. The distributed-element external circuit was employed mainly to take into account the influence of wire distribution and frequency dependency, which are typically neglected by traditional equivalent circuits. The developed model was then used to simulate bearing voltages for various scenarios and …

The effect of the coir fiber reinforcement depth on the deformation and bearing capacity of the red clay foundation is studied through load tests. The distribution law of the earth pressure along depth is analyzed. The results show that the load bearing ratio increases …

Flights were conducted over two separate fields on four different dates using three different flight parameters. This provided a total of 24 flights. The flight parameters considered were the following: 30 m altitude with …

Phenotyping plants is an essential component of any effort to develop new crop varieties. As plant breeders seek to increase crop productivity and produce more food for the future, the amount of phenotype information they require will also increase. Traditional plant phenotyping relying on manual measurement is laborious, time-consuming, error-prone, and costly. Plant phenotyping robots have emerged as a high-throughput technology to measure morphological, chemical and physiological properties of large number of plants. Several robotic systems have been developed to fulfill different phenotyping missions. In particular, robotic phenotyping has the potential to enable efficient monitoring of changes in plant traits …

Comparison Of Promoter, Dna Vector, And Cationic Carrier For Efficient Transfection Of Hmscs From Multiple Donors And Tissue Sources, Tyler Kozisek, Andrew Hamann, Luke Samuelson, Miguel Fudolig, Angela K. Pannier
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications
Human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) are primary cells with high clinical relevance that could be enhanced through genetic modification. However, gene delivery, particularly through nonviral routes, is inefficient. To address the shortcomings of nonviral gene delivery to hMSCs, our lab has previously demonstrated that pharmacological “priming” of hMSCs with clinically approved drugs can increase transfection in hMSCs by modulating transfection-induced cytotoxicity. However, even with priming, hMSC transfection remains inefficient for clinical applications. This work takes a complementary approach to addressing the challenges of transfecting hMSCs by systematically investigating key transfection parameters for their effect on transgene expression. Specifically, we investigated …

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Industrial robots are being used more and more for manufacturing applications that require accuracy beyond what can be obtained from joint measurement. While offline calibration techniques such as volumetric error compensation can be used to correct robot kinematic error, these methods are unable to compensate for robot deformations caused by changing tool loads during the manufacturing operation. This paper explores the use of a real-time robot kinematic error compensation technique where an external high-precision feedback sensor (in this case a laser tracker) directly measures the robot kinematic error and corrections are implemented during processing. A robot kinematic error model is …

Also, Crevice coupons and lock-seam samples were used in this investigation in different environmental conditions simulating natural water conditions to relate the corrosion rate with the level of protection that the coating will provide. In addition, a …
Development Of A Numerical Process Model For Adsorbent-Amended Constructed Wetlands, Lillian Mulligan
Development Of A Numerical Process Model For Adsorbent-Amended Constructed Wetlands, Lillian Mulligan
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
There is a need for alternative methods for municipal landfill leachate treatment as the high concentrations of pollutants in leachate interfere with processes at publicly owned treatment works (POTWs). Constructed wetlands (CWs) have been shown to be a sustainable alternative with good removal efficiencies for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and ammonia nitrogen (NH4+). The addition of an adsorbent media, such as zeolite and biochar, to CWs to further enhance removal efficiencies has been investigated in recent years. However, the long-term effects of zeolite and biochar addition to CWs is not well known. A model could be a useful tool to …

It is important to understand the airborne transmission of infectious diseases due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Physical experiments were conducted to understand the dispersion of aerosols emitted from a mannequin simulator replicating human tidal breathing through the nose and mouth with and without a protective face mask in an enclosed space. Flow patterns are observed via high-speed visualization, and the concentration and size distribution of the particles is measured as a function of distance from the mannequin using an optical particle sizer. Masks were shown to effectively reduce the horizontal dispersion of aerosol for both mouth and nose breathing. Further, …
