Stress Analysis Based On Ecg And Eeg, Eyad Talal Attar
Stress Analysis Based On Ecg And Eeg, Eyad Talal Attar
Theses and Dissertations
Stress is a significant risk factor for various diseases such as hypertension, heart attack, stroke, and even sudden death. In many studies, stress is linked to decision making, performance, and learning. The heart rate variability (HRV) can be measured from the Electrocardiogram (ECG) and is defined as the variation of the interval between two consecutive heartbeats (heart rate). Heart rate variability is also an indicator of the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system. HRV refers to variations of heart rate in a certain amount of time. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a relatively new …

Addressing The ‘Unseens’: Digital Wellbeing In The Remote Workplace, Holtjona Galanxhi, Fiona Fui-Hoon Nah
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The ubiquity of sophisticated devices, along with uninterrupted access to the Internet and organizational computerized systems, allows for the “anyplace” workplace to be established. Technology has the potential to deliberately or inadvertently impact psychological wellbeing. Specific psychological demands are inadvertently imposed on remote employees whose permanent online presence is required. Hence, it is important to understand factors affecting digital wellbeing and steps that can be taken to maximize the wellbeing of remote employees. This paper provides suggestions for future research on studying the digital wellbeing of (fully or partially) remote employees. A research framework is proposed to demonstrate the different …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Based on eye tracking technology, we study consumers’ overall attention to recommendations appearing at different time settings (i.e., early, mid, and late) and their attention to different information contained in each recommendation, such as recommendation signs, product descriptions, and reviews. By investigating consumers’ eye movement patterns and attention distributions on recommendations, we open the “black box” of why consumers’ reception to recommendations appearing at different time settings varies. The product preference construction literature and mindset theory help to explain why the early recommendations receive the most attention. The need for justification helps to explain why the late recommendations should receive …

Electrically conductive, highly flexible graphene membranes hold great promise for harvesting energy from ambient vibrations. For this study, we built numerous three-dimensional graphene ripples, with each featuring a different amount of compression, and performed molecular dynamics simulations at elevated temperatures. These ripples have a convex cosine shape, then spontaneously invert their curvature to concave. The average time between inversion events increases with compression. We use this to determine how the energy barrier height depends on strain. A typical convex-to-concave curvature inversion process begins when the ripple’s maximum shifts sideways from the normal central position toward the fixed outer edge. The …

Pore-Resolving Simulations To Study The Impacts Of Char Morphology On Zone Ii Combustion And Effectiveness Factor Models, Dongyu Liang, Simcha L. Singer
Mechanical Engineering Faculty Research and Publications
Combustion and gasification of pulverized char often occur under zone II conditions, in which the rate of conversion depends on both heterogeneous reaction and gas transport within the particle's porous structure. The morphology of porous char has a strong influence on intra-particle diffusion, and thus, on the overall conversion rate. Because pulverized coal and biomass char particles are often irregularly shaped and contain pores and voids which can approach the size of the particles themselves, conventional models based on spherical symmetry and coarse-grained, upscaled, effective continuum conservation equations are not applicable or appropriate. A recent 3-D, pore-resolving CFD simulation approach …

Event-Triggered Control Architectures For Scheduling Information Exchange In Uncertain And Multiagent Systems, Stefan Ristevski
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Despite the numerous advantages that networked controlled systems provide, potential network overload in these systems can severely degrade their performance and even cause catastrophic failures. To this end, the work presented in this dissertation provides a neat solution on reducing network utilization in uncertain networked controlled systems using an adaptive event-triggered control approach predicated on a novel dynamical threshold and information exchange methodology while guaranteeing closed-loop system stability.
In particular, consider a system consisting of an operator (e.g, a ground station) and an uncertain controlled dynamical system (e.g., a vehicle equipped with feedback control algorithm), where the aim of the …

High-strength hot-press-formed (HPF) steels with a fully martensitic microstructure are being widely used in the fabrication of automotive body structure, and 2.0 GPa-strength HPF steel has recently been commercially launched. However, heat-affected zone (HAZ) softening is unavoidable in welding martensitic steel. In this study, the HAZ softening characteristic of 2.0 GPa HPF steel was investigated by applying a high-brightness laser welding process, wherein the heat input was controlled by varying the welding speed. Microstructural evaluation and hardness test results showed that the base metal with a fully martensitic microstructure was changed to the same type of fully martensitic microstructure in …
Anatomical Correlates Of Age-Related Basal Forebrain Dysfunction, Brandy Lynn Somera
Anatomical Correlates Of Age-Related Basal Forebrain Dysfunction, Brandy Lynn Somera
Theses and Dissertations
The basal forebrain (BF) is comprised of several nuclei including the substantia innominata, medial septum, nucleus basalis and diagonal band of broca which are involved in cognitive functions including attention, motivation, and arousal. BF neurons are particularly vulnerable to dysfunction and degeneration in aged humans and, more dramatically, in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Age-related BF dysfunction may reflect diminished afferent regulation as well as an altered local glial environment. Our lab has previously shown reduced orexin/hypocretin innervation of BF in aging, a phenomenon that may link afferent dysfunction with altered microglial homeostasis. There is little research examining these …
